      Yes! Or maybe Can you feel the love tonight. Some newer stuff so they don't have to go through the emotional hardship of the bass change, haha. Better to get used to both of them at the same time! And as good as the old stuff is, many newer things get overlooked because people recommend the older classics.

    I might have missed it but no one has stated that Avi can sing two notes at the same time. It’s called overtone and it’s very rare but spectacular. This is how he gets that amazing wind and swosh song in this song.

    This was recorded in a closet in Avi and Kevin’s apartment for $400 and they won their first Grammy for it. Scott mentions that fact in their Grammy acceptance speech.

      Right. Avi & Kevin shared an apartment in LA early on to save money, and when the studio this was to have been done in fell through at the last minute, they used the closet to record the audio, then their kitchen to film the visual (done by FifGen Films). Bohemian Rhapsody. I could recommend dozens more but I’ll leave that for the other Pentaholics. They have NO bad songs.

    And with all this there is still much more to learn about what they each do in the group, depending on the song. For instance Avi does overtones, a fabulous trick few can do. Kevin also does other sound effects outside of those typical for a beatboxer, like water drops, a trumpet, & a flugelhorn (similar to a saxophone). Mitch can imitate a violin & also electric guitar. On the guitar it's so close with just his voice alone that you easily recognize what it is meant to be, but when you add reverb with a mic it becomes another moment when you go "I can't believe that's not an instrument!" Want a little soul or blues effect? That's Scott's specialty. Those are just a few examples.

    Now that you have seen there two most popular songs and as you've seen with other people's comments they won a Grammy for this song. They even changed the Grammy expectations from an instrumental song to instrumental or a capella song so they could win. The first song I ever saw of them was white winter hymnal and it's not there most popular song but it shows them being even more dexterous than you ever seen any group ever. Now on you two your reactions are probably the most informative of all reactors and I've actually learns more on the group than I ever learned by watching anyone else. So Thank You for that.

    You're asking for what's next, but there is literally nothing bad in their catalog. Roll dice, throw a dart at a list, point blindly at a video, you will not be disappointed. That being said, personal favorites are:
    1. Imagine (moving and emotional, and also their best example of their "Wall of Sound" - you'll know it when you hear it),
    2. Amazing Grace/My Chains Are Gone (even though I'm not religious at all),
    3. O Come All Ye Faithful (and yes I know it's a Christmas song, but the joy in this performance will make you want to shout "YES, YES, YES!!!" and then play it over and over again).
    But seriously, pick a song, any song, and it'll be a winner.

    You want to have your minds blown, try their cover of "Gold" by Kiiara. Their vocal dexterity is so incredible that they can do naturally what took Kiirara technology to accomplish. There's Mitch slaps, but that and his iconic lead performance of "Aha!" by Imogen Heap at the Star Vista in Singapore (there's a video, find it) are downright Mich face punches.

    What a great reaction! Mitch really enjoys EDM. He has released solo work under the name of Messer that has an EDM flare. Although he also raps, plays the piano, and has exceptional pitch accuracy. And Kevin is a savant. Seriously. The buckling in was a hoot. I'm very glad you decided to find the off-mic performance. Gold, The Prayer, and Kevin's one-man-band performance of Down are the top 3 I'd like to see you do next.
    EDIT: Actually, since you loved the EDM _and_ had questions about how Kevin & Avi _did_ that, here's my top recommendation; Watch the official video for their original song Love Again, then this interview th-cam.com/video/bC9TicW0iiY/w-d-xo.html in which they demonstrate a few techniques, then perform Love Again live.
    I would say 98% of PTX songs are 100% a capella, and 2% have an instrument or two. You'll see them in the video if they're there.

    Loved the reaction, so few get deep enough to realize what they just watched / heard is deeper that what a casual critique can adequately cover. Suggestions....I believe Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy won them a Grammy as they did an entire vocal presentation of the 100% instrumental in the Nutcracker. Also, Mary Did You Know done in a cave and about 300 million views, The Sounds of Silence, Amazing Grace is the only one that completely turns Kirstie loose (seat belts required), Gold lets you see them all sitting and every movement of each, and then the Prayer defies description. Welcome to the a cappella Wabbit Hole....Oh, one final note is that Mitch, Scott, and Kirstie have been together since either high school or longer. Avi and Kevin were added so they had enough members to compete on the national competition Sing Off which they won. If you look at their first performance on the Sing Off here you get a good run down on their history.

    This is my favorite Pentatonix song! At some point, please check out more on Avi. He has a new album coming out soon, but there are two of his previously released songs that are "must hears". One is called "Change on the Rise" and the other is titled "Otherside". They are a completely different sound than Pentatonix, as they line up more with Avi's folksy background! With that said, one of the most impressive things he does is he can sing overtones. That means he can sing two notes at once! One is deeper note while the other is a Mariah Carey-like whistle tone! You can find live videos on TH-cam of him singing "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" with overtones! Anyways, thanks for always doing these reactions the right way. I always love the care and time you put into each one instead of rushing to get them over with. I really appreciate that! Take care & God bless!

    Mitch can actually get to a higher note than Kirstie (rymes with thirsty) can. IF you want to hear Mitch's full potential, "The Prayer", "Can't sleep love", "love again", or with Scott on their side project Superfruit "Defying Gravity". I believe he can get higher than Celine Dion, Whitney Houston, and Mariah Carey. But I can be wrong about those three. There is actually a video I can't think the name of, where Scott is using a Magic Marker, and it is squeaking, and Mitch matches it perfectly. Really go and watch the Private Performance (you'll be able to see a bathroom in the background), it will convince you that they are doing it all with their mouth, if your not already. even if the volume/audio isn't the best. BTW, AVI has blown speakers at, at least 10 venue's. After watching the Hallelujah and this video, I have subscribed. Two more things, first about the middle of the song, there is a place where they all run out of air, so they make the next note on the inhale (the light gets brighter), and at the very end, they are singing 4 different songs at the same time. Kevin, can actually make 2 too 4 different instrument sounds at one time, from what I've heard. There is a video of all of them, showing their vocal range, watch those, it will blow your mind. Kirstie, Scott, and Mitch have known each other and were in school choir together as far back as 10th grade, which they are in their early 30's now so they formed the group in 2011, so maybe 2009 they've known and sang together. That's why their so good.

    • @marykuettner752
      @marykuettner752 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That is incorrect. Kirstin hits the highest notes in Seasons of Love. Mitch's great strength is in the purity of his voice. I am not trying to be mean but I think Mitch may give up the high notes eventually because as he says, he is happy fans like them but they hurt his voice. On "We need a little Christmas" Kirstin did most of the high notes. After not being able to tour for a year Mitch is back to singing counter tenor but he could stop at any time and it wouldn't change how great his voice is.

    • @ptxlvr7150
      @ptxlvr7150 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@marykuettner752 I don't know what happened, I actually typed this up several days ago, but I can't find it now. Theses figures can be wrong, I don't know, I have to depend on other people for stuff like this, and if they are wrong then I am too.
      You misunderstood what I said, I said Mitch CAN hit higher notes than Kirsten can, NOT that he DID hit the highest in this song. If you look on YT, for video's on their vocal range, you will wee that Mitch's range is (and I can't find the specific videos I went by last time I looked at this, but I did write it down, I was curious) Mitch's range on the new video is A1-B7. Including whistle notes which I don't count, unless your Dimash no one uses them in regular singing. But this video is counting whistle notes in the range. Kirstin's range is B2 to B flat 7, which is a half step lower than MItch. Again included in the B flat 7 is her whistle notes. My notes on the older videos say his regular range is B7, hers is regular B flat 7.
      Now you may be right about the high notes hurting his voice, a lot of reactors that are musically trained talk about hearing his vocal chords stretch, and him straining. I"m not trained musically, but I know when watching the two of them trying to hit the same high note, her face looks like she is working hard to push her voice that high, but it could be emotion I see, but look at him and he is so relaxed, not trying at all.
      I was just going by things they have said during interviews, and what they didn't say.. That led me to believe he would rather her get the praise for the hard parts. If it is stretching his vocal chords, I'm sure it is hurting his voice.

    • @marykuettner752
      @marykuettner752 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Kristin hit a full voice C6 and D6 in Seasons of Love. Mitch says he won't try anything that high but Kirstin's whistle notes are higher than his when they are fooling around.
      For years they wouldn't give a direct answer or said Kevin sang the highest. All they will) say now is Seasons of Love is the highest note on an album.

      No, Mitch is a contertenor his range is no where near a true soprano.
      The reason it bothers me are Mitch's high notes are not the reason his voice is so good.
      Most opera counter tenors sing far higher than Mitch. It is his control and placement that make his voice so great.
      If he never sang another high note in his life he would still be a great singer and to hear him reduced to " He can sing higher than Kirstin" is like fingernails on a chalkboard.
