    I’ve been a certified automotive technician for 7 years, backyard mechanic since I started watching your videos maybe 2011?? I bought a 96 lesabre when I was 19 cause my grandparents always had em and I loved em. Long story short my lesabre was a giant pile of crap and I found your videos to fix mine. You gave me a head start on my career and I thank you.

    I am have just rebuilt the engine on my 1949 Studebaker Champion. I got the car three years ago after it had sat for 40 years much like yours. I had it on the road in a week but it still took a lot of work to get everything fixed. Then last year I blew the head gasket and when I took it apart this spring it needed new pistons and rings. Right now I am waiting on a water pump and then she will be back on the road. Good to see you are going through the same process. Work hard and enjoy giving her all the love she needs.

    My dad bought a 1951 Studebaker Commander new. Still had it when I was learning to drive at the age of 14 in 1967. It had been repainted from the original Baby Blue to Black. It was a four door & had a sun visor. Otherwise your Champion looks almost identical to it. Thanks for sharing the video!

    My older brother had one of those in the yard, he was going to make into a hot rod. When he got sent to Vietnam we used it for a club house and trashed it. Since he came back alive he didn't care what we had done to it.

    I learned to drive in a 51 Studebaker Champion Starlet coupe . I think the one you have was called a business man's coupe. Split windshield front and back. I wonder if it has the built-in beer coolers in the back. On my 51 the top of the arm rests on the back seat would flip up and because the sides were Insulated and upholstered you could load them up with ice and beverages. The rubber mats in the bottom of the storage compartments could be lifted up and there were drain holes in the bottom. Had me some fond memories of that car. It was my beach cruiser back when you could drive on the beach. The Stude was a stud when it came to crossing the soft sand and could scale most dunes ! I had put tubes in the tires and could bag the rear tires down as low as 8psi you would just cruise over the top of the sand like a beach buggy never bog down.

      This one is a 2 door sedan,with a back seat. the business coupe would have no rear side windows, a shorter roof, and a longer rear trunk lid...

    It is running like a Champ! I learned to drive in a 1964 Commander 259 V8 with a three speed overdrive car. Even when the throw out bearing went out, and the car was stuck in third gear, it never left me walking!

    I had a Studebaker Champion, a '49. They were a lower priced version of the other family cars in the lineup. Mine had the same engine and 6v system. Very smooth, it accelerated up to about 60, slowly and I never passed any other vehicle. In spite of that, it was fun to drive.

    Wow. Never expected it to run at all. And surprisingly the paint wasn't destroyed by the dirt that was on it. Cool.

    • @johnhpalmer6098
      @johnhpalmer6098 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Typically, dirt is the least of the paint's problems, weather as it can eventually get blasted off by the sun, and or a combination of rain and sun over time if left out in the weather over a long period of time. This car sat in a barn and not exposed much to the weather once parked. Likely got repainted once back in the 60's and that paint was still intact when parked.
      Many cars left out, the tops of the trunk/hood and roof etc will be lacking paint and surface rust will show through eventually as cars weather from the top down while sitting outside. This is after it's begun to rust from below when parked.

    My oldest brothers first car was a 50 Studebaker. We treated it as an enemy tank when we played army( sorry, Bro'!). It had endured many winters in Northern Va before it wound up in front of our house. The rust was holding the body work together, but it ran, got him to school and back. Most of the time.

    My first car in high school was a 51 Champion four door in Desert Sand (yellow) with the same maroon wheels. It had the suicide doors, an automatic transmission and a one piece windshield. Cost a hundred bucks and had only 33 thousand miles on it. We had to drag it out of a field through a creek. My Dad and I got it running. Man, lots of good memories.

    Love it how nature can offer ZERO resistance to man's determination and inventiveness.
    Also love those MASSIVE gas pedals on these older cars - those drivers of yesteryear were brutal on their cars, beat them hard and long as often as they could. Got them onto the program REAL fast when they started playing up!
