      Considering all the homoerotic implications of a guy in purple styrofoam hanging out in a cave (and all the gay jokes the Bible Reloaded have made about Bibleman), this just feels like fanning the flames.

      They did have a Pro-Gay, Pro-Evolution Villain called the "Wacky Protester" in the sequel series "Bibleman: Power Source"
      Who was also the main antagonist in the video game adaptation "Fight For Faith"
      And I believe the Animated Series has a Pro-Evolution Teacher as a villain

    The most confusing thing about these movie is that the villains are the most likeable characters in the whole series. They're funny sometimes, at least.

    Bible man is Willie Aames, who starred in “Charles in Charge” with Scott Baio, who first appeared on TV with Ron Howard in “Happy Days”, who went on to direct “Rush” starring Chris Hemsworth, big brother of Liam Hemsworth, who broke off his engagement to Miley Cyrus because of all that twerking! The first time I saw the "Nostalgia Christian" series, I looked at the thumbnails and the 20+ minute run-time, and decided to skip right over it. Then, one day I got bored, so I thought "Oh, what the heck, I'll watch one" and now this has become one of my favorite shows on TH-cam! Great job, Kevin, I can't wait to see more of them!

    kenneth mabie Well, initially, I made the first episode as somewhat of a tribute to Nostalgia Critic. Since, I'm a huge fan. Then people really liked it, so I made more. Though, perhaps you're misunderstanding the intention of the show, as it is, in fact, not a religious show at all, but rather, reviewing religious content. In terms of my own originality, I think you can find the bulk of my channel IS filled with my own original content, which is where a huge portion of my fanbase has come from. Anyway, thanks for giving it a shot. I hope you have a fantastic day!

    I've always liked the philosophy described in "Life of Pi," that doubt actually plays a necessary role in keeping faith alive. Casting it as an insidious evil supervillain ignores its value, though I get the feeling that kind of black and white approach appears often in these kinds of productions.

      Imma spit some wisdom I learned in 6 years, hate watching is all well and good but it ends up just making you bitter and overly critical of all art you come across. It’s easy to punch down at “art” when you think yourself above it. A masterpiece bible man is not, but I’ve gained a new respect for those who put themselves out there and make the art they want to make, even if it’s low key childhood indoctrination but like hey what isn’t these days?

    This was really good. I grew up watching bibleman when I was a young child, but after seeing it recently I realized how dumb it really was.
    Also, really good ending point. I think that Christian media like this is attempting to commodify God and then sell it. Which really, when we're talking about the creator of the universe, is impossible.
    Once people accept the cast that you're not going to convert every person who watches your "Christian film", we can make better stores that actually have themes and people we car learn from.
    Good video.

    I really enjoyed this video. I watched one of these a few years ago at my church while I was babysitting the younger kids there, and wow, I was amazed this was even in there. My friends and I could not stop making fun it, we got so bad that the kids we were watching asked us to leave the room so they could watch it in peace, haha. My favorite part about these videos is your bit at the end. As some one who loves movies and is also christian I am baffled at how few good movies there are supporting my faith. The biggest problem I have with these movies is, like you said, the other christian's that buy into them. So many times it seems like if you criticize the movie then somehow you are unchristian, and it just makes me want to laugh and say, "Did you not just see the movie I saw". Other then veggie-tales, which I still love today, the only other good christian movie that I have seen come out recently is "God's Not Dead". I'm hoping this will mean the beginning of good christian media because as it stands now, there just not a lot to choose from.

    14:43--"Which proverb tells us not to trust our feelings?"
    "Proverbs 35."
    What? (Looks it up)
    "Proverbs 3:5-6
    Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight."
    When I read that verse, I see it as saying, "Be humble enough to remember that, in life, there are some things that are far beyond human comprehension. Trust your life to God, live life as a good person, and you'll be okay".
    The fact that some people get "Don't trust your own feelings" from that verse is disturbing. It seems like something a cult would tell its members in order to get everybody to think the same way. No wonder fundamentalist Christians are so obsessed with group-think. It's not enough for them for people to believe in Jesus and His message--they want everyone to be mindless faith zombies.

      I mean, to a degree, I understand not living your life based on emotion. That you should look to logic and reason, instead of just acting on how you feel in a moment. HOWEVER, I don't think that's what they are trying to say here. haha.

    • @TheaterRaven
      @TheaterRaven 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I totally agree. Emotion, reason, and logic all need to play a part in how people live in order for them to be healthy, happy individuals. There has to be a balance. But yeah, that doesn't seem like what they're going for here; it seems like they're saying, "All emotion is bad, don't trust any of it, give yourself over to your parents and church leaders--uh, no, we meant God! Give yourself over to God!" It just oozes with indoctrination and, looking at it as an adult, it's creepy.

    I know you ask for comments, so here's my comment.
    This review was hard for me to watch because I grew up watching Bibleman (and admittedly still like it at 25), but I love your humor and understand what you're trying to do by doing these reviews.
    Although you stepped on what I could consider a sacred cow, I definitely enjoyed seeing the "nitpicks" that, as I've grown older, I've noticed but chose to ignore. My brother was a HUGE fan of Bibleman, because it was a great cheesy Christian alternative to a lot of junk out there. I should add we still watched Batman, Superman and the like, but if nothing else, we watched Bibleman for the humor, the catchy songs (the Shadow of Doubt song isn't the same one on the DVD that it was on the VHS), and the Biblical principles (not so much how they were conveyed.
    So! Having said all that, I still enjoyed this review and laughed a lot more than I thought I would. This was probably my personal favorite of all the Bibleman movies, but you didn't make me feel like a bad person for still liking it even after you pulled it apart and talked about how it shouldn't be cheesy.
    Because on that part I totally agree. :)

      I feel ya, man. I also grew up on Bibleman, and it was kinda tough to sit through this review, even though I know that half of the franchise isn't objectively good or decent. Then again, I don't hate the Star Wars prequels, either... xP
      I dunno, I know I don't have a bad taste in entertainment, but it sucks seeing so much of what I grew up on laughed at or hated later in my life.

    I grew up with Bibleman, especially this episode. And I still love it.
    It's dumb, cheesy, and easy to pick on, but recently I've had the feeling that it was really self-aware. It's good, silly, dumb fun, and I still stick in my old VHS every now and then.
    By the way, the song and dance number had a different song on the VHS release.

    I watched Bibleman growing up as a kid. I re-watched an episode or two a few years back and wondered why I liked them so much (I was like, 4-10 years old when I watched these). I gotta say, this one was definitely NOT a good one. lol. I liked the one about fear way better.
    But I laughed through this entire video. You bring up some fantastic points about the Christian movie industry. TBH, Christian movies have no idea how to reach out to the secular world. If I were an atheist/non-Christian, unless I was easily manipulated into believing whatever just because of some made-up story, I would not have even given those movies or even God a second thought. These movies need to start accurately representing Christianity, faith, and God Himself, because if this was someone's first impression...Lord, have mercy.
    Anywho. You earned a subscriber :) haven't laughed so much in a while!!

      +NerdforJesus1 S. Hello (and forgive me for responding to a comment that's 7-8 months old). I just have this one question.
      In your mind, what do you think would be necessary in order to make a good-to-decent-to-excellent faith-based film? (in other words, what would be the essentials needed in order to make a faith-based film that won't alienate non-Christians)?

    • @eviescoffeeshopcovers
      @eviescoffeeshopcovers 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Kevin Kess the biggest problem is they don't make the movies relatable. They say because it's Christian, it has to be family friendly. And while I get that, at the same time, the things we feel and go through in this life aren't necessarily family friendly. And whatever life scenarios they end up putting the character through, they make that character very stereotyped. Like for example, in God's Not Dead, atheists are evil God-haters because God didn't answer their prayer the way they wanted. And the Christian was someone who couldn't do anything wrong, and sure, he questioned a thing or two, it never truly challenged him or his faith.
      but because of those things, they miss a huge opportunity in actually being able to plant seeds in the hearts of people, because they're too busy tip-toeing around certain topics and stereotyping others.
      We need to see people go through the trials without exaggerating certain elements. We need to see them doubt God. We need to see that they're not perfect and they'll sin and fall. We need to see things not work out and God coming through to work that for good and healing that person's heart.
      In other words, we need to bring authenticity into it. We don't need to butter things up. It's not our job to butter things up and make things all feel-good. It's our job to tell the truth. Truth will set the people free.
      Sorry for such a long answer. I didn't intend to make it this long, there's just a lot to cover on that topic, and I don't think I even scratched the surface

    • @KevinKess
      @KevinKess 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +NerdforJesus1 S. So, all that would need to happen for faith-based film to be made in a way that doesn't alienate non-Christians is to have characters go through the troubles of life and show what they have to deal with in life without exaggerating all the trials and tribulations. Show them at their lowest point and then watch as they build themselves back up again and do it without sugarcoating anything?
      If there's something I'm missing with my answer, let me know where I went wrong, please.

    Now that I think of it, what I remember most fondly about the series is the running gag of the villain (who in the later episodes was always the same guy in a different costume) always mentioning somewhere that he recently got demoted on account of his defeat in the previous episode (or insisting it wasn't a demotion, my memory's a little hazy).
    I wonder what it says about a Christian series when the demon that serves as the villain is the most entertaining/memorable part?

    I bought one of these as a birthday gift for my little brother a couple years ago . I thought he'd like it. He was turning 6 that year. I'd never seen it before and I didn't watch it when I gave it to him. I didn't realize how cheesy it was! I won't be buying any more of those for him. I love these Nostalgia Christian episodes! Your last one made me really glad I never watched McGee and Me growing up. (I'm in my 20's, my brother is much younger than me.) I was an AIO fan instead, I still am! I think you should review Donut Man or Psalty. I watched those growing up and I'd really enjoy your commentary.
