I live on the flight path between Miramar air-force base and Camp Pendleton Marine base. There are F-14 and helicopters flying overhead all the time. One day there was so much going on that I googled searched about it and sure enough there were tactical trainings between the two bases. The truth is though we live in a high state of alert because of China and Russia amping up there war tactics. I always say San Diego is either the safest place or the highest risk place to live because of all the military presence we have.
I promise u there were no F14s flying around, since they retired that platform in 2006, and Iran currently is the only country operating them, aside from the one maverick stole from the ruskies😆🤷♂️🤦🏼♂️😖
Why are they training in the middle of a major city center in the United States, are they planning to go to Ukraine? If not they must be anticipating some sort of domestic situation
Our top units train domestically to hone their skills for urban operations in terrain with high buildings such as these. It's an important skillet and unless you want more caskets coming back home then let these guys train to protect you and drink your starbucks.

Shocker there's 3 navy bases around downtown San Diego, you got 32nd, north island and the sub pins, one of the main seal training center is right on coronado island. I live a block away from the naval outlying field and they're not that loud.
Those were MH 6 "little bird" helicopters from the 160th SOAR (Special Operations Aviation Regiment) which is basically the aviation arm of all Special Operations. These are the best helicopter pilots in the world, first came to light in Somalia in the infamous Black Hawk Down and was the same unit that got Seal team 6 to and from killing bin laden. The only US military to fly the little birds is the 160th. There motto is plus or minus 30 seconds, meaning that's when they will arrive or extract you from your mission. They're known as the Nightstalkers because most of there missions are conducted at night. They didn't get this ridiculously good without very serious training. That noise you're hearing beneath your balconies San Diego is the sound of freedom. NSDQ!
People, we live in a military city, essentially a fortress city, the USA's center for naval wartime command, one of the most important, well-defended, and powerful military and naval cities on Earth! Considering recent events (🎈) I'm not surprised they're doing drills to ramp up the defense, because if you think about it we are a HUGE target for any attacking force due to the immense military presence, so of course they are gonna step up their games. When or if war comes to this nation it isn't going to be in the rural valleys, it'll be in our major city centers, so please be thankful your military is doing what it has to do to keep the city we all live in safe. Even if the battle has to come to downtown, at least they're fighting for us. Lol

What’s the big deal, there is nothing new under the sun. We seen this before so what’s the big deal. I’m glad our forces train the way they do. If things ever hit the fan you wouldn’t be saying why are they flying around like this.
One day while living in Temecula I heard screaming and gunshots across the field from my house at the private school. I ran to my balcony to see what was going on and at the private school I could see unusual behavior. I then ran to the phone snd called 911. The 911 operator then told me that a training exercise was going on and she thanked me for calling and caring about our community. I was shaken up but not mad that I was not informed. I do understand several nights can be jarring and disruptive. What I took from my experience of the training exercise is learning what I really need to do and what I needed to know. A friend of mine had visited Israel and every night she there were bombing. We are not used to disruptive actions going on around us but you need to ask yourself - do I want the people I call on to be prepared even if that means disrupting me a bit or prepared thru a video or by a book. I pray we never need to be like the other countries that have bombings and such. Nor do I want my children to have to fight in a situation but I would rather have my child prepared. I am a proud Navy Mom!
Wow, i know those birds… 160th SOAR-some of the best trained pilots next to The Tuskeegee Airmen… mostly associated with very, very important missions… Its interesting that they were there… at that time… training… with no blank adapters (used on rifles during training), with no notice… in the middle of downtown SD… AND… theyre Army-sort of… meanwhile, the nearest base is a Marine Corp installation… but they werent even training with them? the way the little birds were performing bounding overwatch seemed as real as could be. thank goodness our government is keeping us safe.
Camp Pendleton is not the nearest base its the furthest and an hour away from downtown. They were near 32nd (wet base) and Coronado (dry base) which are both Naval Bases. Pendleton is located partially in SD county with 2 main entrance gates in Oceanside. We have to ask ourselves why the Army was there when there is absolutely 0 army presence in San Diego at all. They weren’t just conducting these operations in the air, they were on the ground and all over the entire county… they were also on the ground fake blowing up stuff all day. There was also another incident that happened sane time (those “Siamese” Air balloons appeared) This was not routine, this was a rehearsal.
I've seen the Army Blackhawks over at Coronado....The Army is here, but quiet. Spec Ops stuff. Gonna need it, that's for sure..I live in an area where I recognize most of the aircraft flying over me at night, with or without lights, but once in awhile chinooks and apaches fly by and even train in the hills....got army new uh 72s working with homeland and all kinds of undercover.....it's great to live in very safe areas..

My grandpa was the runway foreman for El Toro marine base while they had it. Trust they can do similar training in more of safer public place. This to me shows urgency to get more practice in city environments because of the probability of them using it.

The helos flying around in SD this week are not navy birds out of north island or cobras from pendleton. These black helicopters are from 160th SOAR. (Ever seen Black Hawk Down? Same helicopter unit). Every year, they come into an American city to conduct RUT (Realistic Urban Training). This training is done across SOCOM & JSOC to improve training in environments that may be looming in the future as potential battlespaces. The westgate mall attack in Nairobi 2013. The Bamako hotel attack in 2014. Paris 2015. the DusitD2 attack in Nairobi 2019. Charlie Hebdo, london, NYC, Brussels. Terrorism does not discriminate against location. Obviously, we can't train in Russia or China or Iran, but their cities are similar in infrastructure to ours. With threats looming & existing in built up cities across the world, training to conduct operations like this is extremely important. And as big as the defense budget is, it's not enough cash to build an actual city on a base. Hence, DoD coordinates with a city & their local LEO to conduct this training, which believe it or not, this contributes to the local economy. The military has been doing this since the 90s. Or would you rather our Special Operations Forces be unprepared if they told to go to war? Not to mention, the posse comitatus prevents the military from conducting live operations on us soil and/or against us citizens. If this was a real world op, these guys would have FBI, ATF, DEA, USMS or CBP written on their equipment. Stop living in the conspiracy world of fear mongering everything you refuse to learn about. Veteran of 8 years and I have never seen the military perform training that directly puts civilian lives at risk like this. These are risky exercises, flying a helo that low through downtown. There is no “safety precaution” for preventing a helo crash. If that thing hit an apartment complex, it would be devastating

Veteran of 8 years and I have never seen the military perform training that directly puts civilian lives at risk like this. These are risky exercises, flying a helo that low through downtown.
There is no “safety precaution” for preventing a helo crash. If that thing hit an apartment complex, it would be devastating
Then it would make sense to you that this is unusual and possibly a preparation for something bigger.
You fight like you train....in as realistic scenarios as possible.....there are risks, there can be collateral damage if things go south, but it is the least thing we should be complaining about....to have defenders of our country training for when it hits the fan...-11B Infantry Veteran
@ImdigenousManAtLarge You don't fully understand what our confusion is. I'm from San Diego, born and raised. These situations are not normal to many of us who are from here. To "train" in close civilian proximity is not norm. To shoot off rounds in close civilian proximity is not norm. There clearly is something bigger here and possibly not a training exercise. No one was trying to offend the military here in any way.

Have you watched 911 video news at all ever? Are you aware of the border being overrun? 1,000 people over the weekend. Were you not aware of downtown being overrun and la mesa and the burning of buildings and destruction there? Were you not here during the l.a. riots of 92' Have you not seen how much worse things have gotten and will continue to get? I was sent to the 92' l.a. riots to quell that disturbance and restore peace.
There's been nothing normal about much of the way this city has turned upside down, extremely! Wherever you have military, law enforcement and quick first responders,be happy. Because it doesn't take much for all that to change. Nobody is going to get a notice on special operations by special forces. It's part of a clandestine operation. Yeah, you do have a right to say "damn! What was that all about!" But at least you will know what it was all about if it happens again. Crime was probably very low that night...lol. I didn't hear about use of any live rounds, flash bangs, grenade simulators mainly probably. They are quite loud.
