I just came across this video, and subscribed. I’ll investigate your channel further. Most informative “how to” video I’ve ever watched. Your camera work is incredible. I was not distracted by your audio descriptions because they were direct & to the point. (If you hang up wrenching, I’m sure you could teach some of the young fellas how to create streamlined videos.) My dad gave me his 2004 Ranger 4.0 XLT 4x4. I would love to do this it. It has 135,000 kilometres. Take care & Thank You
Definitely a project I’m going to do with my 4.0 ranger once I pull the motor to rebuild it. Always wanted to either turbo it or give it a supercharger.
I just stumbled across this little gem of a video and am VERY glad I did! I'll echo what others have said: great production skills! Clear, well-lit shots combined with excellent, well thought-out descriptions makes for a VERY enjoyable viewing experience! (I also learned about fuel injection hose clamps.) I've got a 2004 Explorer with the 4.0 and now want to throw a supercharger in it!
Ranger shop, I have a 4.2 Ford f150 V6 I'm wondering can I do the same modifications that you are doing I have a lot of new parts in my garage,, just haven't committed to doing it but after watching your videos you have me fired up
It’s recommended to use the the 1994/95 Eaton FORD M90 (rectangular-style) and the 1989-1993 FORD Eaton M90 (oval-style). Often found it the Thunderbird supercoups. Check out this link for more information- modd.me/faqs/
Well spoken video, have been watching all your videos on your beautiful baby. I have a question for you, with your knowledge and as a ford mechanic, would you know if they make a supercharger for the 3.0 v6 ranger motor. That's what I have in my 2002' Ford Ranger. Thank you for showing & sharing your experience and thoughts
Yeah unfortunately no I don’t think so. I looked into it for a friend and couldn’t find any. But I’ve seen some awesome turbos installed maybe that’s an option?
I’m running low boost 4.5-5psi. Should be good for about 50hp and 50ftlbs torque, these superchargers are for torque that’s why I used it… if you look at this dyno run notice how quickly the power comes on… it’s instant no lag that’s the main reason I went with it. This is on a stock truck- modd.me/faqs/ scroll down a bit. 185ftlbs factory went to 236ftlbs
not sure if your on any ranger groups on FB or the ranger station- I'd love to talk to you more in depth about installing a Supercharger- what would I be looking for for a 2002 3.0L Ranger?
Unfortunately, I don’t think you can get the kit for the 3.0 it’s only for the 4.0 SOHC. I’ve seen a bunch turbocharging their 3.0 rangers seems to be really slick. Instagram @ waysoutback is probably the best way to talk, if you still want.
I’d probably reach out to Moddbox, but personally I think if you went with low boost around 4psi with no tune you would be fine. If you went with larger injectors you would definitely have to upgrade.
Yes you can. It's even stated on the moddbox site that the pump isn't needed. I have the 47lb injectors installed to. Though I ended up installing the pump that came with mine anyways. It gave me nothing but problems and eventually burned out within three months, leaving me stranded in the middle of the desert in the middle of July in 110F, 50 miles from the closest town. Eventually got it towed to a Ford Dealership and had them replace the fuel pump with a stock OEM one. Been over a year now with no problems running the 3.15" pulley, which according to my boost gauge produces 3.8lbs of boost at WOT. Fuel pressure is a constant 65psi never dropping below 62psi.
Where did you get the rebuild kit for the blower? I couldn't find any that would work for the super coupe or cougar units. Lots for the m90s used on range rovers, jags, and gms.
EBay like this- www.ebay.ca/itm/112436245784?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=aMOeF5dNSwq&sssrc=2349624&ssuid=31v737g2qqe&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY
If you have a 4.0 is it required that you have to rebuild the supercharger. Also I have a question about the m90s, I have one off of a gm motor would it still fit?
I would highly recommend rebuilding it but you could probably get away with just replacing the rubber coupler adding new oil and sending it. I’d skip the GM one since it was mounted on a transverse motor they made it too long. The SC has a short nose and body perfect for our rangers. There is a guy on TH-cam that used a GM one on a 4.6 CrownVic take a look at his videos…. he had to cut off the rear and JB weld the housing back on….. seems like too much work. There are lots of Super Coupe SC around just keep your eyes open. I just picked one up yesterday for 250$, but I had to drive bit. In my opinion it’s a lot of work why add to it.
This is the kit I ordered… you can get it a bit cheaper without the needle bearings but I figured while I was in there might as well do it. www.ebay.ca/itm/112436245784
I don't think u should have put that oem fuel pre-filter on because with the high flow pump it will suck up faster and may collapse the filter. The filter that came with the kit has a plastic inners to keep the screen open and won't collapse.
Totally picking up what your putting down…. the decision was not made lightly. The problem was no matter what that filter was not going to fit on there…. Unless I cut the complete bottom out of the plastic holder then I’d be worried about the pump falling out. What made me feel better about using the oem was it had plastic ribs to hold it from collapsing and was over double he surface area. I think if you were building a high boost 4.0 with upgraded high flow injectors then I’d be looking at getting a different pump set up. But I’m keeping my boost low and sticking with stock injectors. I’ll keep my eye on my injectors pulse width once I start towing I’ll keep you posted… appreciate the feedback keep it coming 👍
Just pull the bed when your working with the fuel pump..... otherwise your in a perpetual wrestling match with the pump.... you need (3) guys and the bed comes off easily and makes work so much easier....
No disrespect to anyone, but I removed the bed off of my sister's '97 Ranger to fix the fuel line. I did it myself. It can be done, just be careful. The bed is not that heavy.

Thank you! Congratulations that’s a good truck! Any questions you have just ask. 👍
This is awesome can't wait to see the outcome. Wish I had the 4.0..darn 3.0.
It’s coming…. I’m hoping this weekend! Stay tuned…
I think I’ve seen some turbocharged 3.0 🤙
same bro, i've got a 3.0
This video is so underrated thank you for sharing this with us man!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Wow.. this is so dope
Definitely a project I’m going to do with my 4.0 ranger once I pull the motor to rebuild it. Always wanted to either turbo it or give it a supercharger.
I highly recommend it, I love the feeling! It really wakes up the SOHC!

Glad you enjoyed it! Personally I loved the supercharger… lots of potential for power if you want.
tanks for this i actually scroll by the last hours to find exactly this. not easy to find some couple off guy still working on this truck today
Glad you found it! Yeah unfortunately I’m not sure why more aren’t working on these. They are great little trucks that are still reasonable to buy!
About time!
I subscribed to your channel waiting on this series, also while waiting I love your other videos.
Awesome glad to have you along. Just in the middle of Part 2! Supercharger in just working on air intake and electrical. Can’t wait to drive it!
😄👍
Did you go intercooled with that supercharger.
It would be cool to see rear mount STS turbos on that 4.0.
Funny you mentioned this, yes just installed an intercooler I’ll try to get a video up of the setup soon!
Bring on part 2!!
Coming soon!! I can’t wait!
Ranger shop, I have a 4.2 Ford f150 V6 I'm wondering can I do the same modifications that you are doing I have a lot of new parts in my garage,, just haven't committed to doing it but after watching your videos you have me fired up
I’m really not sure! Reach out to moddbox and see what they say. Maybe they can point you in the right direction?
Do have a part# of supercharger
or recommendation of what used engine models to pull one from. New to these mod so looking for info. Thanks

Can you provide me with a link for the rebuild kit? Thanks! Great video!
I just bought the parts off eBay, The rebuild kit was separate from the needle bearing but I’d recommend getting those also.
@@RangerShop1 Thank you!
where do i get the super charger
What paint did you end up using on the supercharger? Great info on the rebuilding also.
I used Dupli-Color Acrylic Enamel flat black. It’s held up really well
Would this fit on an older model ranger? Say a 2000 ford ranger XL 4 door?
I’m not 100% sure I think as long as it’s a 4.0 SOHC then you’re good, but I’d reach out to the manufacturer he’s got lots of great info.
The land rover lr3 v6 4.0l its same eingen its can be fit ???????????
Yeah I believe so… I’m not sure I’ve seen any done but I don’t see why not.
I’d check with the company

@ Ranger Shop thank you for your feed back. I really appreciate it.
How many psi and how much horsepower should you gain? Any loss to torque?

Yes I believe so. If you got the 4.0 SOHC then your set. 👍
Did you ever do it?
Can u put supercharger on 3.0 motor
I’m not 100% sure. This kit won’t work but maybe another. I think what I’ve seen a few times is a turbocharged 3.0L

I really liked the kit send me a kit for me, I'm from Brazil and here we don't have this kit
Reach out to moddbox they would probably ship it for you?
I imagine just putting a turbo on the 2.3 would be better and cheaper.
Yeah I think you’re right…. Try not to go too crazy with boost though… it’s hard to stop! 😅
