METRONET Denny Avenue Level Crossing - Closed Forever

On April 1 we said goodbye to the Denny Avenue level crossing... and last weekend we said hello to the new Davis Road underpass 👋
After the gates shut for the final time, 350 people started to work on removing the boom gates, finalising the rail bridge and laying rail.
Now cars have started using the Davis Road underpass, making a safer and easier crossing between Kelmscott's east and west.

@@brendanu1680 Ohh, I just read now that they built a new rail over road underpass at Davis Road and closed the old crossing at Denny Ave. Google Maps was confusing me but that makes sense now. After investigating it appears that
1. There was more space
2. the underpass is a part of a development plan including a rerouting of the original roads that isn't coherently visible on google maps (seriously, good luck)
3. the new road design includes a bus service that continues from the redirected Third Ave, through the underpass and onwards down Davis road.
In summary, the Davis road underpass flows better, was easier to build and benefits the bus service as well, as the route is straight rather than having to give way and turn.
