The people who usually complain about the friendship seem to have no problem when the exact same thing happens in Naruto, Bleach, One Piece and worst of all, Black Clover. These people are basically just riding on the Fairy Tail hate bandwagon, I guarantee most people spewing hate for the show are people who haven't even watched it and have no clue what's going on and are just parroting the viewpoints they come across. The whole friendship thing is a pretty big anime trope in general, if you hate it here, there is no way you don't hate it everywhere and that probably means you aren't even a fan of anime, at least the shonen type anyway. Not meaning you by the way, I am just stating what I think about those in general hating on it for simple reasons.

I think the reason a lot of people dislike how you only talk about the music (you are a drummer obviously) is because you're missing those "sad moments" in the openings that you say arent happening (just my thoughts)

It outsold Bleach at one point and killed the big 3 era. Fairy tail possibly could've been a big 4 but it came out late and isn't "shonen jump". It's not underrated. Just over-hated and uncredited not because it's bad but because it was popular to hate it back in the day. It was like a punching bag where all good is ignored and they beat the dead horse of lies. Fairy tail does have dragons, demons, kingdoms, weird animals and knights just like a fairy tale but it's named that because the blonde kid who created the guild was asking if fairies had tails. She even has an opening for herself (OP 22). It's a heartwarming series that makes you forget how dark it is so when dark moments come, it's unexpected. Kinda like My Hero Academia.
The writing is AMAZING. People just don't pay attention and most watched it as a kid so they downplay the writing. It has the best female cast in anime (not debatable), one of the best when it comes to openings and ost's, most broken powers (stopping time and erasing existence is something the main villain doesn't care about), but overall everyone agrees that it's a feel good show. Fights, transformations, and matchups are 10/10 BUT some blueball us by not happening at all or ending early. People don't understand that every anime falls off after its initial blow up so it's not fuel to use against FT. It went on hiatus TWICE and came back with filler. Anime only blows back up during their final season or hiatus and yeah you guessed it... people are going crazy over the sequel.
It is literally toxic fandoms from Bleach, Naruto and Dragon Ball Z mostly that spew hate on the show possibly because they see it as a threat to their own show's popularity for some ridiculous reason. That is why it gets bashed. All the tropes people complain are in Fairy Tail are in EVERY single one of these other shows and nobody seems to bat an eye when it happens in them. Then you get the types who say it ripped off Naruto when they are nothing alike but are completely silent on the obvious fact that Black Clover 100 percent took a LOT of inspiration from Fairy Tail. The anime fanbase is weird and flawed indeed.
