I came to this video after reading about Salamone Rossi and Leon Modena, a musical celebrity in Mantua at the time, working together on this piece, in a book called Shylock's Venice by Harry Freedman. Technology can be wonderful -- I didn't just have to wonder what this music sounded like, I could go to TH-cam and there it is! Thank you for this performance and for posting it.
Wonderful performance of a wonderful repertoire. And, personally, a big discovery to hear, for the first time, polyphonic music sung in hebrew!
Thank you for sharing such beautiful work!
Extraordinary performance of extraordinarily beautiful and affective music!
I've always enjoyed Rossi. This is an outstanding performance.

Beautiful video, location, and music. Sung so nicely! (S.) Rossi is so good.
This is beautiful
Glorious
His Canticles Of Solomon are wonderful as well
I've played this over and over - a lovely piece of music that has made me listen to the Hebrew. Thanks for the subtitles. I love the hashkivenu - especially the final perfect cadence at the end as a sublime ending.
Absolutely perfect rendering. You’re the best, guys!
Thank you so much for this performance and your research. It's the musical equivalent of seeing ones own culture and traditions carved into marble.
This is such a miracle. Thank you very much.
Wonderful, thank you and Happy New Year!
❤😊
I'm very impressed, thanks a lot for this wonderful piece of jewish music.
You rock, guys ! Be Blessed, Elam ! This is קידוש השם :))
Impressive
Спасибо! Жаль нет текстов
Looked up your edition of Psalm 8 on CPDL - are you singing this about a minor 3rd down from that one? Finding the soprano part more comfortable, and the alto part lower, than I expected :)
Did you quote 1:39 in your own music? It sounds very familiar
Mazel Tov! Eminent repertoire, neglected only because written from right to left... excellent performance 'by heart'! ---- no head coverings?
I should add that, strangely, the music as such wasn't even written from right to left, something I never quite understood...
They are wearing the yarmulke. You can see them clearly in a few rear views.
@@quiretenor you are right, thanks for pointing that out, they are very discrete.
@@danyelnicholas Yes, indeed! You are welcome.
@@danyelnicholas See Elam Rotem's Early Music Sources TH-cam channel on the topic of Rossi's innovations where he discusses this very thing. th-cam.com/video/DvCBW7Rz7_Q/w-d-xo.html.
Why don’t all synagogues use this music??
Beautiful!
