When fostering dark skinned species its often best to use virgin society/bengalese finches that don't know or our unsure of skin colour & tend to take to them easier.

Ive also used this method in the past. I talk a little bit about it in other videos but like with all birds some virgin societies have been great from day one with african species and other are a bit reluctant to feed for the first few days. I dont know what causes this difference in behavior from pair to pair.

@@paradiseaviary I agree with those comments where possible I like to use pairs that have reared dark skinned species purely for that purpose instead of then offering them with Aussies in the next round.

Your right i noticed that, even the begging can cause an adult experinced bird to abandon a fostered chick.

I read the comment by Ulisses about fostering under javas , several years ago I placed 6 cutthroats under javas who reared all 6 no problem, though I'm not sure I'd risk smaller waxbills

Thats a very good point!! The javas are big finches so they must accept cutthroats chicks who are almost about the same size as their own chicks, but might not be so willing with other smaller waxbills like firefinches or cordonbleus who are extremely small when hatched.

Yes they are amazing birds and have helped establish so many species that have been in danger of disappearing over the years
