  • Technically known as an HDMI multi-input / multi-output switch or a Video / Audio router, an HDMI matrix switcher makes it possible to connect HDMI source devices (AKA - Cable BOX/Blu ray/PS4) for Video/Audio distribution to displays. Our AV guru, Chris Graham breaks down what an HDMI matrix switch is, how it works, and the different types of HDMI matrix switchers in the market.

This is a great video explaining all thank you. However, I am still a little confused :-) I have an Optima projector which only has 2x HDMI inputs and a 3.5mm audio output jack (it doesn't have an optical or L/R audio input/output).
Issue is I have a soundbar currently linked to my TV, and an amazon fire stick which has all my media on. I would like to use the soundbar with the projector but do not know how to link this up, I thought I may need some sort of HDMI matrix or switch but do not know which one to get and how to set it up? do you have any ideas please?

What Matrix would you recommend that would accommodate all three immersive formats?
Also, if I'm utilizing a processor for all equipment and a matrix switch for display only, would the first question matter at all?

      Hi Jonathan,
I'm not sure I understand your question completely. Matrix switchers are designed to route any 1 of the input sources to any 1 of the output displays. Regardless of external devices it will always show a single input on a single output.
If you are looking to see multiple inputs at once on a single display you should look at a multiviewer, check out this video th-cam.com/video/UWKRaNEfQMQ/w-d-xo.html

At the .34 mark, I do not see audio to the display. Does this provide audio? Is this a replacement of the normal baluns that use cat cable? Why is a matrix the preferred option? I have prewired for video distribution to 6 TVs that require ultra 4k or better for future proofing. What is the most economical solution, counting all devices that I need?

    • @BZBTVchannel

Yes, HDMI Baluns over Cat cable pass the audio Signal to the Displays. Some offer ARC (Audio Return Channel) As well, but it must specify this on the spec.
"Is this a replacement of the normal baluns that use cat cable? Why is a matrix the preferred option?"
Not sure I understand your questions, please clarify.
"I have prewired for video distribution to 6 TVs that require ultra 4k or better for future proofing. What is the most economical solution, counting all devices that I need?"
Which cable did you run, CAT6?
How are you planning on controlling the switching? Remotes, touch panels? How Many Sources do you have? Are you using a House Amplifer for any of the rooms or surround sound?

I have 6 TV's in the house. So if I want to use the matrix switch to distribute video (cable, watch TV basically) on all tvs, do I need 6 set top boxes connected to the matrix? (if it is supports 6) Or am I able to get away with 1 set top and distribute it to all 6 Tvs? And would I be able to use my tv remotes normally? (to switch inputs, channels, etc?)

    • @BZBTVchannel
      @BZBTVchannel  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

You don't need 6 set top boxes with a matrix switch, unless your goal is to show 6 different programs on each TV at the same time. In this scenario, you would need a 6x6 matrix switch to distribute 6 inputs (set top boxes) to 6 TVs, and you can watch in any combination you choose. This is a typical sports bar set up where there are different sports programs on each TV.
If you only use 1 set top box, yes, you can distribute to all 6 TVs, but it will be the same program on each TV. You'll want to have more than one set top box to use a matrix switcher to its full potential. Hopefully this answers your question, please visit us at bzbexpress.com to chat online or call us directly if you have any more questions.

I have a simple question that is proving to be incredibly difficult to find an answer for. I have two computers and two monitors. I want to be able to set either computer as the source, and when it is connected, I want to use both monitors. Not to duplicate the image, and not to display from the second computer, but to have more screen 'real estate' to work on when I'm using either given computer.
My question is: What do I need to do this?
Everything I see seems to be vague about this ability. I've bought a switch that seemed right - 2 in 2 out, but it can only duplicate the source image on both screens. When I read ads for better switches, it will talk about using multiple sources, each on a different screen, but never specifies that you can use multiple screens from either source.
Can anyone give me a direct answer about this and recommend a product?

My key requirement for matrix switching of HDMI sources and monitors to switch with close to zero latency (no EDID negotiation). This video assumes that once things are setup, nothing changes. What's the point of a switch if you don't need live switching.

    • @BZBTVchannel

Hi, sounds like you are not using DVD players, Cable Boxes, Streaming devices that have HDCP requirements. I assume you are using devices like PTZ cameras, Video Camcorders and maybe analog devices that do not need to be HDCP compliant. If this is the case, you should be looking at Production Video Switchers which we do also sell if interested. Overall, sounds like this video does not pertain to your specific application.

What I'm look for is a matrix switch to play "man in the middle" so that all negotiation is performed at power on and not re-negotiated when the topology is switched.
