    Howdy Marc- I hadn’t thought about it for years, but this brought back memories of refinishing my dad’s old shotgun when I was in high school. Thanks for sharing this. God bless

    28 Gauge? must be fun to find shells. I remember doing this a long time ago to Dad's shotgun. Thank you for showing us how you do it, Marc. I will be watching for part 2. Stay safe and stay warm

      In the 80’s it was, but it has done quite the comeback in the last 15 years and I’m not having trouble getting shells.
      Thanks Sean✌️

      I'm not overly familiar with the inner working of the Stevens but these early shot guns certainly share similarities. I', been continuously honking my skills with the camera work, soon I'll have better equipment as well. Hope your having fun with your project!
      Thanks for coming out Justin✌️

    I've never heard of a Cooey shotgun before. 28 guage shells is a little hard to find in our area. Not impossible but not easy either. A few of my friends still use 28s for their squirrel guns. At first I thought that might be a Savage or Stevens. My favorite shotgun is a .410, Stevens single shot. Looks like everything is turning out well so far. Looking forward to part 2.

    • @OpenAirOutdoors
      @OpenAirOutdoors  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Tracy your probably familiar with it, you might know it as Winchester 840, they bought out the company in the late 60’s and than made other variants like the 370 and others. They were all from the Cooey platform. The 28 has regained some popularity and in my opinion the best caliber for grouse.
      Thanks for coming out buddy 🍻

    I can't believe that the Canadian Winchester's are so cheap, you can pick them up for a çouple a hundred $ in Australia. I have one and the build quality is superb. Great guns.

      Just like Mauser got it right the first time with the bolt action Coey got it right with the break action! It is nice to see one can still get top quality at a fare price even today!

    Thanks for nice video. After degreasing, most probably it should not be tuched with bear hands? The rubber gloves would be a solution. Hope the coverage was even everywhere and finger prints did not affect the uniformity of color in the long term? In every step I woud reccomend to wear the protective gloves, at least because of chemicals.

      Yes yo are right! Once the barrel was cleaned I handled it with a stick through it. I had one small blemish under the breach, not noticeable. Because of editing many steps were not shown or shown in detail.

    Also, rinsing isn’t really too important, just don’t let it sit all day. When doing the barrel, just pour some of the blue on a terry cloth and wipe it down, it’s much simpler. Also CARD BETWEEN COATS of the blue, or use 0000 steel wool.

    • @OpenAirOutdoors
      @OpenAirOutdoors  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I was reluctant to use the wool but I did eventually try it out and I was quite impressed on how well it worked! My biggest concern was an uneven or blotchy finish, in the end the results was good and next time I'll be using this product I'll know what to expect!
      Thanks for watching and your insight👍 Be well be safe out there hope to see you again✌️

    • @OpenAirOutdoors
      @OpenAirOutdoors  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Anthony. To remove the pin you first have to remove a tiny screw near the top of the receiver. here is a good video that shows a tear down in detail.

    • @OpenAirOutdoors
      @OpenAirOutdoors  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Because this was a total strip vs a blueing restore I put it throigh a steel wire wheel. However the break cleal was crutial to finish it off before the blue prossess.
      Hope this helps✌️

  • @petezapie3216
    @petezapie3216 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Oh boy, I did it too. Now I got the pins knocked out. Now how to remove all these springs ?

    • @OpenAirOutdoors
      @OpenAirOutdoors  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      🤣 ya I got caught with it to! If you look closely at the pins you will see a pin hole through it. Compress the spring and insert a piece of mechanics wire through the hole. that keeps the spring compressed and you'll be able to work it. Have fun Pete🍻

    I have a single shot Stevens 10GA. And a Iver Johnson 12GA. Side by side both are nice guns at that time are the only shotguns I had when I had moved to a cabin in the mountains off the grid bearly I had electric and they put meat on the table the only thing is I wished I had a 20 or 410Ga. To go with them and my 30-06

    Hey, I noticed yours doesn’t have a retaining screw out the sides or the top, most do.
    I have the same gun and the firing pin falls out.
    What keeps your firing pin in place? I can’t figure it out

    • @OpenAirOutdoors
      @OpenAirOutdoors  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Liam, the breach has to be stripped down. once the hammer is out of the way and the through pin is out there should be a tiny pin. Yours is most likely broken, allowing the firing pin to fall out.
      Hope this helps out some!

    • @loganivey3378

      Just dont tip it up too far with the hammer back an it wont fall out
