If I were a newbie… I would be taking actual notes. You included soooo many tips of the trade. From start to finish… I love that you always include the prospecting part in the beginning. Tips like keeping clean water for later, the “cleaning stick, rewashing clay, scraping clay off bigger rocks all good stuff
Wow, thank you! I appreciate your kind words and encouragement! Believe it or not, most of these small tid bits and tricks of the trade make a whole world of difference when it comes to total gold found. If you want to find more gold, you must work smarter!
At 3:21, did you wait to see if the inside of the rock tarnished after you broke it open….. I don’t know how long it takes silver ore to tarnish…just that it does.

I'm from Kansas and make a yearly trip to Colorado just to pan for gold and enjoy nature. I usually just enjoy nature because it's hard to find gold. I did get to checkout the old mines around Leadville this year and loved it. Keep doing what you do buddy
@@ColoradoGoldCamp sounds good! This year I left the wife at home and went camping solo for a few days. It was nice lol. Especially after being cooped up in the house for a couple years waiting on back surgeries
So you have a few years on your Keene 3" highbanker/dredge combo and I just bought mine so I come to you for advice! Any mods you have made that I should consider? Weak points? Tips? Such a different beast from the old Keene A52 I put Keenes 2" highbanker conversion box on 30yrs ago!
Niiice, this combo is a pretty sweet and versatile unit! The main thing to mention is that with the stock riffles, you have to be sure to have adequate water flow going through the box. Too little water while highbanking and you will lose gold.
@@ColoradoGoldCamp Thank you sir! I know you tried goldhog matts, have you ever tried all expanded over carpet or miners moss? Really enjoy your videos.
@@ColoradoGoldCamp so judging from watching the video I see you deal with a lot of magnetic sands. I'm working on an attachment for a sluice or highbanker that'll help work that stuff out while it's running. I finally got new a lil highbanker. The geobanker drop riffles one. I can't see that we'll so panning out the heavies is a lil difficult for me lol. I just gotta fix my jeep and get back out to get some material for testing. It still drives but the front pinion bearing is pretty noisy so long highway runs are a no no right now
I haven't seen a pan like that for a long time, thanks for video D. And did I hear you correctly, possibly a claim could be won? Now that would be an epic prize.
Hehe, I would love to Cory! When we get enough action going in the Nugget Club, I would definitely consider putting up one of my mining claims as a prize!
I live for this stuff Victor and strongly believe that I have to do what I can while I still can! My bones are already starting to get a bit creaky;) The links are up in the description of the video and right here: www.paypal.com/donate/?hosted_button_id=69Z3SWPSTAMWG
Have you ever heard of "whip panning" ? It is what some of the old timers did, (some of my ancestors placer mining fine gold at Mexican Hat, Utah), when they had no access to mercury. This is used for separating fine gold from the black sands when you have no mercury. You need a 4 to 6 inch small metal gold pan that has a small recess in the bottom of the pan. The gold pan is horizontally submerged in the water, then raised slightly out of the water while the gold paner begins slowly horizontally whipping the gold pan with a designated spot in the whipping for a slight tilt of the wrist for dumping off some of the lighter black sands. It is time tedious and takes a lot of practice and patients. Hope everyone enjoys this prospecting video your watching, I know I do.
That sounds quite interesting indeed Michael! I will definitely be doing some research on that method. It is always fun and educational to learn about new techniques, thanks for the tip!
I have the huge bolder moving and ledge pealing bar that I call "barzilla". It is old and heavy with weighing about 45 pounds and is three inches square at the bottom with a V shaped point. Just one hard shoving into ledge cracks and peal the ledge better than any of the modern pry bars. Maybe some day "barzilla" could be in your hands for surprisingly ripping up the hillside. Thanks and bye
Are you allowed to pick up that old steel to take it home and repurpose it? I'm just curious what laws are on that? If it's unclaimed, it should just be considered trash
If I was there dowsing with the modern light weight ball bearing dowsing rod all of the concentrated pockets of placer gold could have been located. You can learn to use physics in dowsing for location of the higher concentrations of gold by reading and studying the recently published book named : The Art of Dowsing - Separating Science from Superstition. Thank you for reading this post and have a safe, healthy, good day.
