I have been wanting to rebuild a rotary but didn’t know how to cut side seals now I do! Thanks for the info it gonna help me a lot with rebuilding a rx8
Thanks for taking the time. My first rotory I clearned them too tight and two of the seals were stuck in when I pulled the engine later. All part of the learning curve.
Nice video! I'm pretty sure I made the mistake you pointed out, I clearanced an RX8 motor without using the .006 feeler gauges and have miserably terrible compression afterwards..
When you said in 5:25 “I’m getting into the bullsh*t” I was like no damn keep talking!! LOL I’m looking to deepen the grooves on my rx8 rotors for rx7 apex seals ! Using GSL RX7 Housings ! So I’m doing my research off that
Would you say the outer right pointy part of the side seal after grinding would be an issue? The angle on mine look correct but that outer right corner look sharp and almost longer than a regular pre-cut seal.
Here the seals were clearanced to .004. That is my preferred clearance for NA renesis engines. .005, .006, .007 and .008 would be fine too, but I would personally only do .006-.008 if the engine was going to see boost

Great video mate, thanks for taking the time to do it!
I love your perfction! Geat guide.
Fantastic work!

how is this going??!! wanting to do this exact setup but decided to port and rebuild a Dorito first, would love to hear art it
Yo Nate its JP,
Hope you're doing well bro!
Hey man, what part number oem seals are the uncut/ longer ones to clearance yourself. Instead of buying Mazdas pre cut seals!
Thank you!
Awesome tip! I am going to make a 3D printed cutting jig. That is a cheap way unlike cutting up a rotor. Let me know if you need the file.
I have done that too.
Could you put the file on thingiverse?
@@elieisenberger6988 no sorry I spent weeks designing it and hours and hours printing test pieces.
@@mazmorbid5840 all good
could you share said file?
Thanks

What side seal clearance range if using renesis rotors in a 74-2002 13b (engines with exhaust port in housing) thanks.
.002
@ Nate Rist , so the right clearence is 0.5 mm ? Thanks you .

Hi, what grit sand paper did you use? Thanks
1500 and 2000 or around there (whatever I have on hand, but typically those 2)
Would you recommend oem sideseals or aftermarket
No matter what the application or output is (even if it’s a 1000whp drag 13B) OEM side seals are always the best to use
what grit sand paper do you reccomend?
1500 and 2000
Hi. Do you mind if you have sanding dust around the rotor?
just clean it up and clean the rotor out before assembly
@@NateRist Do not use abrasive tools near engine parts. It is bad.
