+Matteo Bassani Lester could play inside or out of the music and had a very distinctive voice on his instrument. Kamasi is a good musician, no doubt. He doesn't seem to approach or even hear the "outer" sound at all when he plays though. If he was playing up on a stage between Roscoe Mitchell and Joseph Jarman he would soon be lost. When I hear his tone become distinctive I'll say he's maybe getting there.
I know what you mean. But I doubt people will understand your thought trail on this. Kamasi and his band for me is the natural continuation of the great John Coltrane, Sun Ra Arkestra & Fela Kutti.
its so the mouthpiece doesn't get bite marks, and it allows for easier playing. if his teeth directly touch the mouthpiece, the vibrations from the instrument will distract him.
3:37 my eardrums will never forget.
Thought I was having a seizure
Hurt my eardrums. Disliking the video and clicking off now.
scary
Great set! WARNING: 3:37 loud noise pop

Xavier Luyckx I jumped out of mine at 3:37 😆
I was walking around at midnight listening to this when that loud noise at 3:38 happened! Thought I was going to die!
That drum solo is sick. Austin and Bruner are tight. The whole set is really superb, That Rickey Washington flute solo was really fucking cool,
thanks for the line up credits.
Can Someone please tell track name to 3:37.
Merci d'apporter un peu d'humanité dans la musique et ce sans être mièvre et rose bonbon...merci!
I almost gone deaf on my ears at 3:38m but I am clapping hands on my own here when the songs finish, haha.
Pissed myself at 3:37
+knockinbox So thankful for the things that lead to that. Such a small thing, yet it brings me such joy!
It sounded like one of those awful jumpscare memes!!

I figured it out, Kamasi is the Lester Bowie of this generation

uno farto @ 3:37
That Re run song has some Street Fighter or some other video game in it.
Lol yeah he looks like a dude from Street Fighter lol but yeah amazing playing! 😎👌
What's that thing he always puts in his mouth before he plays? I've never seen anybody else do that.

This is great, but... Kamasi Washington reminds of Rahsaan Roland Kirk, a lot.
Too bad cameras were out of focus all the time
she sounds like little dragon's vocalist
: )
Did this man say it's "an ass concert"
3:37 T.T
No hay nada que haya escuchado de kamasi que no me guste
anyone know the instrument at 7:34 ?
+knockinbox It's a Moog Liberation
+TheHamDaddy
it's called a "Keytar"
single PMV wave with portamento, attack filters, and LP filter
wow such an amateur audio mix...
Aqeq
I had a seizure at 3:37
ok, but 2 drums ? Are we sure that is a good idea ?
Is it just me, or is the piano/guitar kind of grating. I guess I just prefer an acoustic set without that thing.
