    It's such a relief to see this new breed of experienced professional reviewers who do more than just create sponsored content for youtube. Leaning into the uniqueness of devices and demonstrating how to be more creative within an ecosystem, which is the whole point of owning these products.
    Instead of seeing a device like an iPad Pro as overpowered. consider that it comes with a learning curve that requires you to be flexible and creative in order to master it. If you're a professional, you want to use tools you can push with complete confidence.
    Another banger vid, DL. You nailed it with the Ferrari analogy.

      hi again Paul - great to hear from you. I sat staring into space for an eternity to come up with that analogy - but it seemed to hit the mark!
      Coming to the iPad fresh only a month ago with no pre-conceived ideas meant I had no agenda. It took me some getting used to yes, but now I have got into a flow with it, I really fail to understand what all the fuss is about over iPadOS - it works just fine!
      Hope to catch ya again next week...🤞🏻

    Honestly, the multicam feature on Final Cut Pro for iPad and final cup camera is simply mind blowing that you’re able to do this on an iPhone and iPad.

    The second I stopped thinking of it as a primary device but more of a sidekick device to the laptop, I started to love it. I think of it as a device that tries to re-imagine how you do certain tasks using a finger instead of a mouse.
    Trying to make it work with a mouse though defeats the purpose for me and leads to frustration. Everything is very wasteful of screen real estate because it's meant to be touched, not clicked.

    I’m one of those individuals who prefers the iPad over the Mac. What I’m seeing from Apple, especially with the iPhone and now with the FCP for iPad, is bringing pro studio features to their ecosystem. First, Apple brought the Apple Log to the iPhone. Secondly, it’s now bringing multiple-channel video desks to the iPad. There is a similar video on TH-cam about FCP for iPad where the reviewer could easily change the camera focus and items just from the iPad using an Apple Pencil. For vloggers, short film producers, or advertisers, Apple now has a range of quality tools that allow people to create their own content relatively inexpensively compared to five years ago.

It really is now only 229g heavier with Magic Keyboard over the same 11” set up, so I’m not so sure now I want to change. Now I don’t use Final Cut, more Lima fusion and daVinci. But I might try a month because I want to know if I have my zoom recorder connected and wireless mics into the zoom will it use the zoom audio with the different feeds? I can do voice overlays with the zoom recorder mic over USB in lima fusion so I know it works with the iPad.

    I think you were spot on in saying FCP for iPad will be great for vloggers. Multi-cam on an iPad is pretty amazing. One thing to note is when you were outside, standing up, and had the brick buildings in the background, your vocal was a bit soft compared to the levels on previous iPad shots. Apple needs to work on external mic support, but the rest of the videos shot on and edited on the iPad was tight. I am glad you are loving the iPad. On a personal note I actually gave away my iPad Air 4 to a friend because I was so fed up with Apple not addressing window and file management on the iPad. I do not want macOS on an iPad. They serve two completely different purposes, but Apple could use macOS for inspiration to satisfy my liking. Congrats on your sub numbers, and you'll hit 10K very shortly.

    • @PSy84
      @PSy84 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      in the end, it's the substance of the content and not the sophistication of editting. Using iPad will force you to focus on substance of your content since you will be using simple editting and AI maybe.

      hi there Dell - I am surprised that more vloggers haven't picked up on it. When I was out that day it just became so obvious to me that it is a gift for them!
      Regarding the levels - that was the point I was trying to make, and maybe I have overlooked it. But when setting up the session I'd have thought it should give you the choice of which device to have as the mic input. I am hoping to be invited to an FCP for iPad course soon by Apple, so I can pose the question then.
      Yup - I think 10K now seems a pretty realistic goal.

    I really like the idea of it being so efficient to shoot, edit and upload on one device. I played around with a client edit and added voice over to part of a clip by using the mic record button within Final Cut on the iPad and It sounded great. Another possible option would be to look at the Rode presenter pro or wireless pro, and just plug in and send the audio to the iPad and into Final Cut. Once you are editing on the iPad, I find the audio management pretty good. You are right though, you should be able to select the device.

      Hi there Ben - great to hear from you.
      Yeah, once you start editing on here and really lean into it, the scope is endless. If you were to use an external mic it would take it to another level! I am meant to be getting some trading from Apple on FCP - if that happens I’ll ask about audio sources for you…

    Hello David, how are you? Hope everything's fine my friend.
    The video I was waiting for...as a motovlogger it's important to know you can use an iPad for editing only and take it with you everywhere you go (and starting doing little editing in the evening as you go). I'm not very much interested in Multicam (as of now) but who knows what the future holds? Only question I have is... if , hypothetically speaking, I'd buy the 256 gb version and a separate hard disk how can I move the files from my DJI Osmo Action to the SSD itself? is there an adaptor for that? Or I have to copy the files on the internal storage AND then copy them back on the Ssd to free space again? It seems you're working with Apple Devices only so I assume you use iCloud to share videos between them and in this particular case you were working with the Ssd plugged in directly on the iPad..am I right?

    • @DavidLewisTech
      @DavidLewisTech  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi there Frankie - it’s always great to hear from you. I don’t have an Osmo Action, but I guess it has a micro SD. So if you drag the files from that onto an SSD or better still buy an adapter that will let you plug the SD card into the iPad and you can start to edit straight away! Everything you saw me do was from the SSD - none of it ever touched the internal iPad storage. Does that help at all?

    In the first half of the last century, a very large-scale, merciless, bloody and hopeless struggle was carried out in the class and international fields, and at the same time, after the important scientific results obtained in the previous centuries in the field of mechanics, astronomy, electricity and magnetism, optics and others, which allowed civilization began the transition from agricultural production to industrial production and from the feudal socio-economic formation to the capitalist one, more subtle scientific discoveries were made in the field of the structure of atoms and matter, which made it possible, from the second half of the previous century, to begin the next stage of technical progress and further improve people's lives. As the history of technology has shown during this period, in the UK and US there are the largest specialists in building complex systems, and this is exactly what the consumers of these countries want, and the way DL examines and analyzes everything in detail and comprehensively is quite consistent with this. Formally, in the days of 3D TV, it was possible to produce screens that generate polarized light, and if we consider such screens with polarized glasses, the impact of sunlight that does not have a certain polarization will decrease and it is possible not to use an anti-reflective coating.

    It’s never overpowered, as such. It’s often underutilised due to iPadOS limiting me to 4 windows, or not performing tasks unless they are in the foreground. That’s the gripe. It’s a great device and I love it, I just wish I could do more with it. iPadOS is getting better, but progress is glacial. Things like not being able to select audio sources, this is basic flaw. I also can’t resize the dock or reliably use an external webcam and mic. The reason I find myself wanting macOS is that all these problems just don’t exist on that platform, and I don’t see iPadOS progressing quickly enough. But fixing iPadOS is the best way forward, I really hope Apple will put some effort into doing it more quickly.

    • @DavidLewisTech
      @DavidLewisTech  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      hi ya, Paul - it looks to me as if Apple is really leaning into iPadOS and that can only be a good thing. They know they are sitting on something unique with the iPad. It's taken them a long time to find it's true niche, but I think we are finally heading in the right direction...

Try either Bobby Torelli’s or iPhonedo’s FCP 2 videos for more technical details. I remember it being pretty dry, so it might have been an Office Hours Global video. The main reason I’m such an “fangirl” is not “brand loyalty”, I don’t believe that exists, people are waaaay too selfish for such a thing. It’s not because I think Apple is “perfect”, Apple is a corporation and makes their fair share of greedy or boneheaded decisions. It’s because after a dozen years of choosing to buy Apple over Android or PC, I’ve grown to hate the stupidity of the attacks, the unreasonable hatred, the lazy content and repetitive snipes. For example, recently commenting on an Apple Pencil video, me and another person were discussing why the Apple Remote or Pencil were not simply tweaked to become AVP controllers, the technology seems to already exist. Someone dropped this gem into the discussion
      “Apple wants to keep selling you more pencils so they leave features out.”

    It is not too powerful, it is too expensive. At those prices it needs to be my main device. I agree that it should not just get MacOS, 'as capable but different' would be better. But if it costs as much as a MacBook Pro, it has to be able to do everything a MacBook Pro does. Ideally better!

    • @DavidLewisTech
      @DavidLewisTech  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      in some instances, like the rig I had set up, it does some things the Mac cannot do. Is the OS perfect? No - but it is nowhere near as bad as folks had been making it out to be

    • @john_hind
      @john_hind 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@DavidLewisTech The problem as I see it is that previously they had an alibi for a cut-down OS: the device was less powerful and lower cost so it could not do as much and power users were expected to use it as an adjunct to a Mac main machine. Now it is more powerful and more expensive, the policy of hobbling it with OS limitations looks like a greedy attempt to avoid competing directly with Mac.
      One thing they really ought to do is delete the rear camera and instead sell a stand-alone camera that works with the iPad the same way as the iPhone camera app does. This way you could buy zero, one or several depending on how seriously you take videography. It would avoid the need for the camera bump and stop you looking like an idiot holding up a giant screen. Finally it would reduce cost for those of us not interested in videography. Apple has already opened the door to customisation for specialised use cases with the separate sale of the pen and the keyboard, a separate camera seems like a natural extension of this approach.
