    Even though this video is 4 years old, it worked perfectly for my 2014 BMW 328i. Taking the seat out was much easier than I thought it would be.

    Got them installed. Was pretty easy, just make sure you have the tools mentioned in the video (particularly the large Torx driver needed to unbolt the seats, I did NOT have that in my aresnal). So far they seem like a worthy upgrade. As I mentioned in my last post, I wasn't expecting them to behave equivalent to a large scale sub system, and they don't. They do, however, add a nice thump that was missing, and remove the muddiness of the factory speakers, which makes a more rich sound. It complements the stage 1 and my JL sub that I had already in place.
    They are definitely putting out more power. I thought initially I hadn't tightened something enough as I heard a rattle. The problem was I left my keys on the passenger seat. They never rattled like that before, haha!

      djrobx hey I was going to order some for my 745li and do you know if the amplifiers are already built into these subwoofers? i called a local shop n the guy said the amplifiers go out on those type of cars.

    I currently have the stage 1 kit in my 2011 328i with Harman Kardon. I just received the email from you guys that there are 22 sets if these woofers in stock. I'll be ordering a set tomorrow.. I can't wait to hear the results.

    I've got a 2011 335i with the Harmon Kardon audio package. And on Dec 11th when these are available, I will certainly be ordering a set to pair with my Stage 1 BSW upgrade. Thank you for all the time & research you put into these. Us BMW owners are going to love these well designed units… !

    I installed my sub-woofers and followed this video to a "T". Really easy install. The fella in the video recommends the ratchet extension. I HIGHLY recommend you get one! Made my install much easier.
    I can't say enough things about the sound. For the price, it's unreal. OEM BMW speakers (not HK) are just plain garbage. I give them a 1/10 and Bavsound an 11/10. Makes for a much more enjoyable ride.
    If your car has heated seats and the wires running to the bottom of the seat, DO NOT UNPLUG. Why? I did so that I could take the seats completely out of the car. When I reinstalled the seats and plugged them back in the car's computer gave me a 'DOES NOT COMPUTE" type error code. I then had to go to the dealer for them to work their Bavarian magic.

    Great video! I just finished replacing my subwoofer using this video. Mine had screws instead of T20 holding the grill in place. Two 10mm nuts. Once I got the original subwoofer out of the car, I could see the original was glued into place in the housing; there were no screws to allow removal. Used replacement subwoofer had a housing that looked just like the one you removed in the video. Overall, excellent video. Thanks!

    Just installed the Ghost Woofer in my BMW 2015 X1. Definite sound improvement and with the Stage 1 my system is starting to shine. The Bimmer Tec amp is on the way and should round things out nicely. I previously installed a Bavsound Stage 1 kit in my 335i and retrofitted the subs (at the time Bavsound didn’t make subs). The Ghost Woofers were much easier to install and I think sound better. It takes about 45 minutes to an hour to install but I do take my time. You will probably will not have T40 in the average took kit so get one if you don’t. A nice 12” ratchet extension is nice to have as well but not mandatory. Move the seat up and forward to get a bit more room when you lean the seat back adjust as necessary to give you room to access the speaker grills. There is a little tab on factory harness that you have to press to get it to release don’t just yank on it. In my specific vehicle, you could take the speaker out of the enclosure without removing the speaker and enclosure. I chose to take them out and it can be a bit tricky getting the enclosure to pop into place but it does. Put the gasket that comes with the speakers on and put back in the enclosure. With the new speakers plugged up. Turn on the radio and make sure everything is working. When this checks out put everything back together and snug. Don’t over torque. If you hear a rattle double check that you have everything snug and in place. The Grills are the usual suspect or a tool/keys/etc. left lying around. I am still breaking in my Woofers (takes around 10 or so hours). I restated many things in the video but I notice that I catch some specifics in the post that I did not catch in the video even though he did point it out.

    Working on a e90 (3 series). Re-installing speaker enclosure box and it is stubborn. I took some Zaino Z6, which is a slick gloss enhancer, but one could use silicone spray, and sprayed it onto the edges of the port box where it inserts onto the car body and sprayed on the car body, and the port box slid right into the body. Finishing up now. So if you have issues with a stubborn slide from the box into the body, try a tiny bit of silicone or Z6 to slick it up slightly. Otherwise, it is a relatively easy install -- just tight. The T50, not included in the tool bag, is easy to find at a Lowes or similar DIY store about $5-6.
    Sound? Wow - it has the kick the OEMs were missing. I placed Frank Ocean's "Thinking About You" and talk about bass kickin' in. As stated below, you now have thump and a richer sound.

    • @jgeary8473
      @jgeary8473 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is a year later - I did not attach the speaker to the box sufficiently tight and was experiencing resonance. I tightened up all screws to speaker box and car - resonance gone. With the screws on woofer cover, do not crank them down too tight. Screws may be dirty. Cleaning them makes it easier.

    I'm looking forward to receiving these. Installation looks simple enough. I'm hoping it improves the midbass response as he mentions in the beginning of the video. Even with the Stage 1 kit installed I find my HK/L7 sound to be "boxy", and I suspect this is due to the gap. I'm skeptical that these will do much for the 40-70hz range he mentions without additional amplification/EQing to support it, but I guess I'll find out soon enough. :)

    The plastic seat rail clips on the front are removed easier by pressing the small plastic retaining clip seen just inside the inner rail area and then sliding the clip off the track. Lifting the plastic tab over the bolt has nothing to do with retaining the clip. The rear clips are actually attached by a plastic strip that travels under each seat rail. You will have to remove the track bolt completely and slightly lift the rail before you can slide the track cover off or else you will surely break it.

  • @jgeary8473
    @jgeary8473 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Driver side is easier to insert the box with the new subwoofer. The passenger side in the '09 3 Series is tighter as to insulation and movement. Still wrestling with it, trying to find the issue. FYI - I did the Stage 1 install alone and I am not exactly a DIY type -- just takes patience and the tools that BavSound offers.

    • @charliedouglas2263

      Do you have to take the subwoofer case out or can you take out the sub with the box in there? and put it the new one in without taking the box out?

    • @jgeary8473
      @jgeary8473 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Charlie Douglas I think you need to take it out. But it's been 4 months... edit. You can leave it in but room is tight. Work slowly so as not to damage speaker.

  • @jgeary8473

    This is a BMW issue, not a BavSound issue. Installing the ghost subs on a day off on a '14 5 Series. Room is too tight to lift each box out of car - going for the speaker but the darn tab - push down, pull up does not work. So I have a 535 without seats sitting here until I can pull these tabs. Speakers are tough to move becasue of tight wiring ... looks like it'll be all night - was hoping for a 2 hour job, but those tabs are odd, they don't really push down. Finally, persistence pays off. See below - one must push in below the 2 wires - a hole exists to push the tab inwards. Because of unforeseen circumstances and depending on model, you can add an hour or so to installation time.

    • @jgeary8473
      @jgeary8473 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      BMW tabs connecting speaker. Those tabs were tough to move because the wire is tight to the car, but underneath the two wires, one can take a flat tip screwdriver and push towards the sub housing, and the tab gives, wiggle it, and lift up.

      Every other video I've watched they've left the housing in place and just swapped out the subs. This seems like a bit of extra work, but hey, it's how he wants to do it.

    Working on a e90, breaking out in a sweat getting that passenger port box installed to the body so I can finish --- and it's not wanting to go in so I can bolt it up. Thinking about the issue now... how to get that stubborn woofer box into the body to bolt it up. See above - use silicone or auto finish gloss spray to help the slide.

    Great video. I used it to get two 5c coins out of my car, one from inside the speaker cover resting on the speaker diaphragm the other from underneath the sub-woofer box. Carpet gaps are now plugged with hard grey foam and black gaffer-tape. I still have one more sound offending coin somewhere, it cannot be inside the sub-woofer box can it?

      I'm guessing by now you found out that it does. I didn't even know my E91 320D had under seat subs until I watched a video, that's how bad they are. The entire base BMW 3 series audio system has enough volume IMO, it just needs higher quality speakers to be decent (for all but serious audiophiles).

      Absolutely. Our subwoofers are engineered with one thing in mind - efficiency. Every watt of power generated by your factory amplifier yields far more bass output with our woofers. So even without changing your factory amp,
      you get louder, tighter, punchier bass response. To get more information on the output you will gain with our woofers, shoot us an email at sales@bavsound.com and we can go into more detail.
