What can't he do? Nothing, as far as I'm concerned. He's already performed pure opera, brilliant contemporary rap and everything beyond and in between. There is so much more where this came from, Bob, and I know you will be amazed (even flabbergasted) each and every time. "Olimpico," "Adagio 2017," "Stranger," "Ave Maria," "Love Is Like a Dream," "Your Love," "Love of Tired Swans," "Across Endless Dimensions," "Elim Menin," "Passione," "Be With Me," "I Miss You," and "Jasmine Flower," are just a few of your still to come spectacular musical experiences. Enjoy the journey!

You said in the beginning that you weren't sure if he intended the notes to come out that way? The one thing that can definitely be said about Dimash is that he does nothing without full intent, he's an absolute perfectionist and if something doesn't come out exactly as he wants it to then it just won't get released. He said once that more of his recordings end up being discarded than ever see light of day.
This was the first time he'd ever sung in Japanese and Japanese reactors have said that his pronunciation was practically perfect.
The composer of the song Goro Matsui said that Dimash had sung the most beautiful version of Ikanaide that he had ever seen done by a foreign singer.

    • @tungavidya

Can you please provide the source of this statement "more of his recordings end up being discarded than ever see light of day". I follow all his statements and interviews as well as posts in his fan clubs from 2017 and I have never seen this. The only thing I could say in connection with this is that sometimes we got instructions from his father not to publish any fan camera videos in the media, because in China it could hurt him if they were published before the show was published. Sometimes there were also videos for some new song that was not allowed to be released to the public before he released it. But that's completely different from what you're saying here. Thanks in advance for clearing this up.

p.s If you want to hear more of the operatic side - including great lower range stuff th-cam.com/video/dkPS6t84qg4/w-d-xo.html check out olimpico (ogni pietra) This is a fantastic mostly operatic song he sang a few years ago - and ive linked you the best quality version. I beg to differ with Dimash on this. Yes, mastery over his instrument is crucial to be able to deliver what the singer wants to express. But, without that innate instinct and the depth of soul he could not deliver what he does. There are people who spend lifetimes becoming top in mastery. But they still cannot connect on the level that Dimash does.

Thank you for another beautiful reaction-analysis video 😊 Dimash pays tribute to Koji Tamaki`s original, and also to Yoshiko Yamaguchi`s story , and voice :) (you can see her beauty and hear her amazing voice in the link below). "Ikanaide" was written about her sad real life story : written metaphorically as a plea for a loved one not to leave, the song actually describes the pain of actress-singer Yoshiko Yamaguchi that had to go into exile. Born in China, she hid her japanese heritage under a chinese name (Li Xiang Lan), became very famous. After WWII, her heritage was exposed, she was arrested, accused of being a spy, and sentenced to death. She was ultimately cleared of charges, but was advised to leave the country, as she risked being lynched. The song describes her pain in separating from China and her chinese name. The soprano section added by Dimash is meant to express her pain. /// She also had an amazing voice
Dimash also performed the chinese version of this song, called "Autumn Strong/Late Autumn" - first time during The Singer competition in China (2017), as the first chinese song he ever sang (worked like crazy in the week given to him, to get the pronunciation right), and managed to bring the audience to tears. Now he performs the chinese version in all his concerts (sometimes combines the 2 versions and sings half in chinese and half in japanese :) ) He got an award in Hong Kong for "Autumn Strong", and for "Ikanaide", a co-writer of the song said that Dimash`s cover was the best foreigner cover :) (japanese pronunciation included :)) )
For "Ikanaide", Dimash used a lot more breathiness than in "Autumn Strong" - as a tribute to Koji Tamaki`s original : th-cam.com/video/2j3ab7cu_30/w-d-xo.html

My theory of an explanation: Thanks to his education (especially grand-parents, grand-ma for kindness, grand-pa for caracter strendth...), he is respectfull, humble..., thanks to his singing parents and the love and family ambiace as a context, he is passionated and perfectionist in his choice of dedicating in music in general, which is confirmed by the securing and confortable community around him, all those qualities by a very young age, has been ideal criterions for all his music and singing teachers to bring him quite easily to this almost perfection... In conclusion, it is all about a whole, a context of many circomstances which created Dimash... Let's not forget in this context, the role of our Creator, in creating vocal cords, from which He shows us threw Dimash, all the qualities and possibilities, and His Mercy and Power.......(sorry for my inperfect english...lol)

Do you want to see Dimash in a pop video, watch Be With Me. He is not only probably the best singer, but also a very good actor with amazing fighting slills. He may as well be the next James Bond.

Thankyou Bob for your wonderful reaction. 💕Dimash is the best. He's worked very hard since he was 5 yrs old. He is humble and kind too. He is classically trained for all these years. He sings beautiful Opera sch as Paccione also love of tired Swans. The one where the swans are in the background behind him. Oh there's so much to tell you. ♥️

Dimash may not be showing off, but I think he just becomes a solo instrumentalist when he goes off like that and does one of his impossible singing interludes with no words.

Also, I agree that Dimash does not show off, he simply expresses musically the emotional direction of the song. 😍

You can be sure that he practiced this song plenty before going on camera. D is the ultimate professional, he doesn't give us anything that's half-baked, it is always the "ripened" product as his father once described his "treatment" of any song he performs. You'll get it when you've done a few more of him. Best wishes.

Dear Bob, thank you so much for your reaction. Like you said, Dimash's middle range is so pleasent and beautiful to listen. The special timbre of his voice that is so captivating and addictive is perhaps most powerful just in this range. The other range where I hear it clearly, is his soprano, not so much his high belting (just in my personal opinion). Dimash is very relaxed and comfortable is this performance. Because of the covid, the whole event Tokyo Jazz 2020 was livestreamed. Dimash is here in his own studio (Kazakhstan or Beijing, does somebody know?). I remember reading that someone who had watched the broadcast said that the audio in this video is the same, but there were differences in the visuals. The performance was filmed by a Japanese crue and they probably chanced some shots with better ones afterwards. The composer and original singer Koji Tamaki is a very charismatic artist and I highly recommend looking his version/versions up in YT. You can also see how respectful Dimash has treated the original.
Bob, if/when you react to Ogni Pietra (Olimpico), please use the version in his solo concert Arnau (from Igor Krutoy's YT channel). For Ave Maria, prepare yourself!!!!!!

Nobody’s going to say anything about you not saying Dimash is the best, because you’re ne to Dimash. If you want to say it’s subjective to people taste that’s your perogitive. You have so few live reactions. Do you know that none of his performances are alike and eve most of his repeating the same song are not alike either. I listen to five radio stations in my car 1 - gospel, 1 - country and western, 1 hard rock, 1 - top 40’s pop, 1 light rock. All of those for the most part are English rock and hip hop genres even the gospel and country and all of them are auto tuned. Tho I can’t say that Dimash has never used aut tuned because he sings at very public events where not every time has he had complete control tho most of the time he does because he is a producer, director, composer, musician playing 8 instruments, is in his doctorate when he brings himself to a venue it is known that he brings all of that another words he brings control of his performance arts to the stage that he either does everything himself or collabs with a select few depending on the song or his tour troupe even his designer of his clothes who goes on tours he collabs with him or her on what he wears Dimash is a high fashion model. So everything you saw and heard in Ikanaide was his choice, the sweater, the ear buds have “DQ” on them - his initials his design. This song is in Japanese his 15th language he sings in according to Wikipedia. There’s so much you don’t know that Dimash has done to make himself the best from the age of a toddler 2 years old started his career. He’s 28 years here. That voice has 25 years experience and education. By the way the Japanese Tokyo jazz festival has invited him back from last year. This is his second performance for them. Already in this song he has done more techniques than any artist anywhere on the planet. Do you know what he’s doing that arianna grande and justi Bieber can’t do? He’s not breathing like them. The whole song he’s not breathing like the vocal coaches teach that only when a note is through do you take a breath. He isn’t closing his mouth on a word, note, phrase. His mouth doesn’t close every time only sometimes. They can’t do that. The note ends while his mouth is open he changes the note going into the next word or note. His breathing is different. Bobby Hatfield in unchained melody did it once. Billy Joel did it in the song Honestly on that word with the word before coming into the word with Onestly as the sound. Pop and hip hop can’t train to do that because they don’t swim all the time like Dimash. In sinful passion Dimash holds his breath for 24 seconds on a melisima with riffs and runs and some kind od weird scale. All of that makes him better. This song if you go back and listen to it again makes him the best.but you don’t want to say. But he has others that prove him the best too. The way he does his breath on this one gives the song a ethereal feel to it that others can’t do because they don’t spend three hours a day practicing. Dimash doesn’t have to be on the radio to be the best. He’s plastered all over you tube.
