I am also having an issue with overheating. Replace, thermostat and water pump. And still overheat when on hi way or when engine under load/uphill. No water lost.

Are you getting heat through the blowers into the car? And is your coolant just water or does it have anti freeze in it too?

@@Theyorkshiremechanic. blower is disconnected. checking the system with just water. wasted 15Litres antifreeze already . will do another flush once i know its working. New water bottle and radiator. Mechanic says its an airlock. other one says its the head.

@@Beemerstein on this one the dash temp gauge was all over the place, its had a small coolant leak for over a year and had constantly been topped up with water not antifreeze, this caused the water pump to become loose on the shaft due to the coolant temp going too high, with this then not pumping the coolant around the block meant the thermostat wasnt opening and no flow around the rest of the heater/egr/additional cooler system these were all blocked heavily with rust, its just a case of putting the hose pipe down every pipe you can see basically and making it run clear to get all the rust out, your rads might be blocked also stopping the flow, we changed everything as the water pump was a genuine vw one and we were certain it wasnt going to be that and in the end it eas that and also blocked rads/heater matrix/cooler under the car, this engine is the 1.9 and it been over temp loads in the last year until now and the head gasket is still fine, i hope this helps

@@Theyorkshiremechanic.I’m having exactly the same problems, head gasket, head skimmed , cams and followers, timing belt and water pump, recon turbo all done 30k ago, but coolant leak in the last year (cracked hose replaced about 2 months ago) and topping up with water whilst sourcing the problem. Thermostat changed today and coolant bottle cap too. I’m at a crossroads, do I spend the money changing the TB & WP or just source a new engine as this one now has 250k miles and don’t fancy doing the head again if it’s not the WP? Tia
