- So the new T5 came with a few issues, one of which being that the water pump was allowing water to pass into the engine oil.
Here's how we replaced it.

I have to warn you that I have no formal automotive training, and have just learned by breaking stuff. If you can learn anything from my mistakes then great, but you do so at your own risk! - ยานยนต์และพาหนะ
great video, i have just done a camshaft on my t5, for future you reference you dont need to take the awkward plate off the crank end to put the timing tool on, you can just pop out the seal in the centre of it, i think water pump is my next job
Thanks, I saw the pressing in the centre but didn't know it would come out. I'll pin your comment to the top to help others out. 👌
You dont need to lock the crank. Just use a small impact gun on the 24 mm nut, on the water pump…
Senk you very match!
Thanks, no problems 👍
Nice job, well done. I'm considering buying a T30 2.5tdi that needs the water pump changing, I hope there's no other damage to the engine, but your video tells me that it's doable. Thank you!
Thanks, no problems. Good luck sorting it out 🤞.

Very nice video mate , never had the pleasure of doing that job , but we'll done , can't wait to find out what's wrong with the door 😂
Thanks, I think the door has been replaced at some time, poorly fitted and had no sound deadening added? We'll get to have a look at it sometime 🤞.
nice work
Thanks 👍
with my french english, many thank's for your video with a lot of interest detail to make myself pump replacement.
Thanks, no problems 👍. Good luck sorting it out 🤞.
nice video Sir
Thanks 👍
good job done🔧🔧
Thanks 👍
I think, having the same problem, with my 2.5 tdi 5cil.On the highway i got lights and bells warning from quantity glycol level in expension reservoir. Filled it up and two miles further same happened again.Stopped again and road assists took it home. But!! Where is the glycol going ?? No fumes no outside leaks engine ran perfect.
Via the telltale drain, into the crankcase?Did you experience that too?No temp problems only low glycol warning.😮
@@pcm9656 . Mine was the same, no temperature issues just losing water. Another common issue is with the oil cooler allowing water into the oil. I think my first check would be to check for water in the oil. Is the oil level on the dipstick going up? If so, crack open the sump drain and check for water in there. Good luck sorting it out 🤞
@@LarcsWorkshop Hi thx a lot !! Dipstick is spitting engine oil and glycol full synthetic its the (almost) same stuff. Change the lube fluid, cool fluid and the pump.!
@@pcm9656 Good luck sorting it out 🤞.

Excellent video! To confirm you use the tool on the crank to be at 9 o clock? Thanks :)
Thanks , no problems. According to the book, 9 O-clock on the tool is TDC, and to turn it 90deg clockwise (12 O-clock) when you change the water pump.
i would suggest to check / replace oil cooler within oil filter assembly if you have no trace of its age
I've got a comprehensive history for it so I'll check if it's been changed. Thanks 👍
Currently doing this job, your video has been a life saver, wouldn't have even started it without watching your guide... im currently trying to pull the gear off with the supplied puller... you make it look easier than I am experiencing getting it to sit on the gear properly!!! also i think my pump is further gone than yours as there seems to be play in the shaft, did you experience that?
Thanks 👍. Yes, getting the puller tool legs into position was a little tricky but I think I was lucky they caught quite quickly. My pump had a little play in it but not horrendous. Good luck sorting it out 🤞.
Cheers Bud, had to modify the tool slightly, my sprocket was slightly different to yours, once the gear was out though the pump came out without a fight... now to put it all back together again. thanks again for the video!!@@LarcsWorkshop
@@sterradovr6365 Good work 👌

🎉❤ thank you
Thanks Fred👍
Soaking wet doing this job out on the drive way ! I’ve managed to get up to the point of pulling the pump itself out and it’s seriously hard. I’ve stopped as of now as I am worried I’m about to break something! I bought the kit you recommend and it’s been good up until now. Should it be so difficult to get the pump itself out ?
Does the banjo bolt have to come out to remove the pump ? I know you took it out in the video but could that cause it to not come out ?
Mine was quite tight, if yours is anything like mine there will be a load of rubbish jammed all around it and in the interspace. It might be worth taking the banjo out and trying to flush some of the rubbish out and trying again? Good luck sorting it out 🤞.
Good idea, I’ll give that a go ! Thankyou.
@@19district97 Good luck
Hey! Absolutely life saving video mate, was just wondering:
Do you have to drain the oil before doing this? And also do you have to take the wheel off to get to the crank?
Love the channel! Cheers
Thanks, no problems 👍. I would imagine it would be possible to do without removing the wheel by turning the steering to get the inner plastics etc off. I had to get the camera in there too so had no choice.
What about the oil?
@@SimTechnics . Yes, drain and replace the oil if you've had water in it from the water pump.
I don’t. I just want to replace it to sleep well 😅
@@SimTechnics 👍
Why do you need to lock it at TDC? Surely the pump has nothing to do with the timing and is just running off a pinion gear?
I wasn't sure of that either, it's what it said to do in the Haynes manual, 90deg past or back from TDC iirc. Perhaps it's something to do with the chance of the engine turning slightly under the valve or injector springs with your fingers in there maybe? Definitely needed the tool to stop it rotating when loosening & tightening the pump gear nut though.
was top part of impeller gone?
The tips of the impeller were worn/heavily pitted but it was intact.
What Hex u use?
For which part?
Afternoon young man. Great video. However I can seem to get the pulley puller to lock😡
Does one go behind the teeth, as in both holes doesn’t lock 😂
Thanks 👍.The puller legs go through the holes and grab on the back. It can be a bit hit or miss if it catches, keep fiddling and I'm sure it'll catch 🤞
Been nearly 3 hours with no success. Might have purchase a better kit 😡
@@user-tw3mq6yy2w . What if you tried bending one of the legs out a little bit to try and get a bit more bite?
