Kirkcudbright is a lovely place. My dad, as a very young man, was posted there and scratched his initials into one of the panes of glass in a local pub window. Many years later, as a young woman I visited Dumfries & Galloway - staying at The Murray Arms @ Gatehouse of Fleet, and visited the pub and found dad's initials on the glass. He died aged 86 five years ago. I bet his initials are still there to this day..

I've even Googled all the pubs in Kirkcudbright to see if I can recognise it's name and none of them spring to mind. It was an upstairs window, on a landing, on the way up to the Ladies loos at the time. If I come across it, I'll drop you a line.
I live in SW Scotland Right on the beach next to woodland We see deer almost every day Early morning and evenings you will see them wandering about the roads Sadly quite a few get hit by motorists

Hi Guys I am Scottish and have not lived in Scotland for very many years. However we thought that we might retire to Kirkcudbright, very often mis pronounced but sadly it was not logistically possible but we had happy times and holidays exploring if this was going to be possible. Palnackie and Croketford were two of the places that I caravanned with when my parents were alive. But I have to say that Kirkcudbright will always be my favorite it has everything going. We went to the Galloway Forest Park and stayed at Black Loch! The drive is very bumpy. We love feeding the deer and there were goats along the road too - did you see them? We think you are going to Ireland and we are so excited if you are because we did 2 weeks in our van round Ireland at Easter and the park ups are immense!! From Beth aged 8
Ah no way, I'm sure Black Loch would have been nice! But we were worried we were going to get stuck! We did see the goats as we drove past x
Kirkcumbright was the home of many of my ancestors on my late dad's mother's side. Most were sea captains, Hannah's by name.

@paulgray2387 Yes but Paul some people take the mick and park on people's land illegally, get water from churchyard and leave rubbish. Would you want that on your land?
Lots of Aires in France are now bookable in advance as well, but they have barriers that you have to put a code into. It’s becoming more common to prebook, lots of folks would have stayed anyway given all the space but so good that you didn’t as places will be closed if not staying with in their licence to operate.
Yes, we've seen a few of those aires with the barriers!

Great video again. Have you ever been at the grey mares tail on the A708 between Moffat and Selkirk it's a lovely big waterfall with a viewing platform and a walk up the side of it to the top with plenty of parking for your truck I used to park there with the coach when doing tours you will love it

Great vlog guys as always, don't understand if you have to book for that air, you would have thought you would have got a code for the padlock on the gate! Instead of being able to drive on, park up then only to be told the pitch has been booked!! Don't make sense! All the best with your scotland adventures all our love Dave and Bonita
I think that’s it. The sign on the gate didn’t indicate that it was a bookable site at all, simply stating that if there are less than 5 motorhomes parked up, then you are free to stay. It’s unusual to pitch up and then have to move on. Glad you enjoyed the vlog xx

Those steel wheels need looking after, best to get them sand blasted and coated soon or replacing the steel hubs., I can see the heat building up the scars on the wheels.
The Isle of Whithorn!!! been there many a time as i lived and grew up around the area, the Steam Packet Inn is a cracking spot for some grub after being out on the motorbike for a ride!
It's a great pub isn't it! and family friendly too which makes all the difference for us.
One of the best villages in Scotland.

Oh enjoy 😊 it's a stunning forest park. Take a look at the stay the night scheme, there's another park up on the other side of raiders road, we've previously stayed in that one.

Not giving it a bad name, we went to stay again, so a beautiful park up. However, the system is a bit silly. The sign on the gate says you are welcome to stay as long as there are no more than 5. There was only 4 so we obviously pitched up. I think most people would be a bit peeved at having to leave after pitching up. There was no indication on the gate that it was a bookable site either.

I don't know the reason for just 5 places at that RAF site but looking at the aerial shots there is place for at least 6 if not even 7
The restriction for 5 motorhomes is a planning issue.

Yeah of course. However we don’t want to be risking damaging our home, so we’re probably a bit more cautious than a timber lorry might be 👍

Hi new to all this but what website was it to prebook your spot at the aire, and i know you said it had service's did that mean just water or electricity as well?
You have to call or text if you want to reserve. They have a Facebook page I think. Scar park aire, they might have the number listed on there.
No electricity, just water and black waste disposal.

How did the area get the name 'Raider's Road? Is,it leading to a vulnerable hamlet or somewhere?
For a cheap park up try Durham park and ride, £5 toilet but no services or Canterbury park and ride which has full services
We’ve stayed at Canterbury park and ride before, a good stop if you are heading over to France!

I agree the anti camper attitude in the majority of the uk is disgusting other country's make tourists feel welcome we should be ashamed of the not welcome attitude we miserably roll out in this country and before any one says but people leave a mess yes this is true they leave a mess but they come in cars and trains and bikes all I ever leave behind is money stop van life discrimination it's shameful

How do you know they had booked, did they have proof?
My favourite place, the isle of Whithorn to overnight in my camping van, when i need to escape Carlisle. Stay there often and everyone is always so friendly. Also visited the Greymares tail on my last visit.
