    Please please do quality perimeter drainage, PVC perf with lots of 3/4 clear crushed gravel and filter cloth! Where your house is positioned there will be lots of ground water and hydraulic pressure, the previous owner tried to mitigate it with a waterproof membrane on the floors but it’s better to dig outside and get the water away from the house foundation with proper drainage 😉
    You won’t ever regret doing it properly!

    I would suggest if you think your forest is going to be cut down, I would start planting your own little forest right on the edge of your property. So if they cut down your forest, you will still have lush trees to look at.

      @annelee2005 Its a commercial forest, thats what its grown for. Not the responsibility of previous owners / estate agents / surveyors to inform. Its just a known fact that commercial forests are grown to be cut down. Its not a natural forest , does not create biodiversity and once its farmed, the land can return to its natural state.

    We’ve moved into a house that’s had underfloor heating put in in the last 15 years. One year in, our electric bill in the winter is mad. Given you’ve got colder winters, make sure you have the best (or double) the amount of insulation under the heating component. This will help put the heat into the house rather than the ground/foundations. Good luck ❤

    • @OneLessCar
      @OneLessCar 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      They are using an air source heatpump which will heat the water for the underfloor heating. This is more energy efficient than straight up electric.

With a growth in youtube content views, subscribers, add revenue, brand deals and sponsorships, merchandise sales, etc.....I believe you can steadily achieve your dreams. There's tremendous potential in this home, though it clearly requires extensive renovation - essentially, starting from scratch or rebuilding from the foundation up. I hope renovating proves more cost-effective than a full demolition and rebuild. Despite the considerable work ahead, I wholeheartedly share your vision and see the magic you envision. I'm genuinely excited about your renovations and wish you both nothing but success.

    Hi Craig and Aimee. You asked for suggestions. My first is that you make a highlight reel of every time Aimee has said, "This is going to go into my garden shed" (lol). My second suggestion (I wish I could draw it but will have to try and describe it instead), so here goes. If you want a king bed in your bedroom AND a bedside table each, well it looks like that wall could accommodate that if there was not the requirement for a door into your ensuite. So I would bring your bedroom door about a metre and a half back into the entry hall to your bedroom. Then, as you are looking at entering your bedroom from that hall, put the doorway to your ensuite to your right side there. That will free up the whole wall in your bedroom for the bed and bedside tables.

      Some versions are called molly bolts. Usefull for holding up heavy things on a sheet rock wall. When you unscrew them properly the toggle part falls off the screw and just lands in the wall space behind. But since you're tearing out the wall anyway it's a moot point.

    I would be tempted to put on a Gambrel roof to open up the interior head space, provide a bit of a "barn-like" look for a country style, and allow for as many windows as you want upstairs. The benefit is that you wouldn't have those pokey little bedroom ceilings that people thunk their heads on when sitting up in bed.
    The other thing I might do, after the house is built, is add on a pergola over your patio off the bedroom. The pergola can offer shade, or partial shade, with draped canvas panels between to joists that can be stretched out or pushed back depending on how much sun you want.

    • @artphotognh

    I cannot get enough of people pouring love and time and energy into old spaces. You guys are bringing life to a place that in time will bring you life. SO beautiful!!! Your "Next Day" made me think of Little Bunny Foo Foo -- "So the NEXT day..." Also, I love bagel burgers. It's always an adventure because you hope none of your sauces come pooing out the holes! I always throw them in the pan I cooked the patties in and soak up the extra oil and seasonings that would otherwise wash down the drain and give the bread a nice, little toast. SO good!! Also, you're really getting a bit of solid bread. LOVE it! Craig and his side eye - LOL!!!!! The challenge! YES! . . and Gary!!!

    Its a commercial forest, thats what its grown for. Not the responsibility of previous owners / estate agents / surveyors to inform. Its just a known fact that commercial forests are grown to be cut down. Its not a natural forest , does not create biodiversity and once its farmed, the land can return to its natural state.

      Actually, he's right: the one-species tree farm is a "biological desert." There's nothing for species like deer to eat, and nowhere for them to hide. I adore wildlife even more than beautiful views, and there's nothing better than having lots of wildlife in a thriving ecosystem. This property can be even better in the future, with a bit of planning!

    Don't you think those who sold this land knew that the forest was about to be cut down????
    The forest is probably why everyone bid high. Money should be refunded to you from the seller and or the realtors on both sides who are paid to research since this happened so quickly they knew.

      The very same thought crossed my mind too. I think you should ask around and see if the seller knew about this. You don’t just decide to chop a forest down so quickly. The time scale between selling and buying and chopping doesn’t add up!

    • @bethanygriffith7078
      @bethanygriffith7078 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +11

      It's also the responsibility of buyers to research. In the US, National Forests similar to this have long range plans available 10-20yrs out. Plenty of heads up on when areas will be logged. If you buy near public land, it's always a good idea to look at their long range plans. Unfortunately, you just have to look at this forest to know it's commercial and not a thriving healthy forest. Enjoy it while you can, vote towards more sustainable logging methods, and hope a more biodiverse, native ecosystem is created in the future.

      Sellers are only responsible for letting you know about the property itself. Not the properties around it. There’s no “refunds” on home purchases unless there is something major that was kept hidden about the property you’re buying.

If so, what happens if someone is in the bathroom and you want your clothes? Is there a way to have built in wardrobe elsewhere? Or some people have the walk in wardrobe on the way to the bathroom. I love your channel! It has gotten me through my cancer journey. I think that you all should start planting trees on the very edge of your property, to create your own lush forest. Just in case they come in and cut your neighboring trees down, you can still enjoy your trees.

    I have a question and it may be silly but when all of the trees are removed, I am worried how this may effect your property. I am picturing the water running down your hill with your New house and possibly creating water damage not only to the new structures but also creating drainage issues for your land. Might this be a problem with the rainy and snow melting seasons in the furture?

    The drill with the chisel for breaking concrete is actually named Mr Judder…. I recommend this naming process for all tools, for example, your wellies are mr and mrs wellington, the shovel is sir cloudsley shovel (be sure to look him up for when someone asks).
    Oh, I forgot, mr judders actually come in lots of different sizes, so I have a mr judder, a brother judder, and a grandad judder (he’s for concrete slabs).

    Don’t forget to have a plan for your computer network infrastructure! You really don’t want to rely on Wi-Fi for all of your computers, phones, tablets, TVs and cameras. Make sure you work with the architect and the builder(s) to install some Ethernet cables in your buildings so that you can hard wire your kit together, and I would also encourage you to run some buried fiber optic cables between the cottage and the barn so that everything can be hard wired together. You’ll be very grateful that you did it!

    By which Christmas? ..... Just asking. Get trades to do the waterproofing, drainage and roof so it doesn't have to be redone any time soon. I know you want all the things, but the basics are worth paying to do right. You can get a sauna and all the rest after the house is dried in, sealed up, and has heat.
