    Thanks for reviewing my fort Blind! I am considering trying to construct a way to "plug up" the river to the moat so i can work on a drainage system, not only that, the current version of the fort has grown by a few Z-levels more with protrutions of clear glass bedrooms! Gonna be doing some finishing touches on it soon before embarking on a new fort adventure in the same world!

    • @petergraphix6740

      The low effort way is to build a few pumps and build walls/floodgates in the river. Will take some unsuspending to get finished.
      The !!fun!! Way is to get some magma to the surface and obsidian over the source side while you work. Then channel it out when you're done.

      @@petergraphix6740 Can you build walls in a 7/7 water tile? I accidentally flooded my fortress and it didn't seem to be possible even placing them in more than 1/7 tiles. Didn't try floodgates though so maybe they're different

    • @petergraphix6740

      @SuperTom0111 no, 1/7 is it. You have to use pumps or clever cave ins otherwise

    Always make a way to drain moat. In one of my last forts I had little 2 wide moat, and it actually killed more enemies than any of my legendary swordsdwarfs... and more dwarves than any FB/Siege. There was a crap load of items in this moat, including 7 full masterpiece steel armor/weapons sets.

    Still trying to get one of my forts ready to send your way for a review, but apparently my first cavern layer is PARTIALLY heavy aquifer. I realized it way, way too late. I have flooded all the way down to the magma sea by accident and am refusing to give up. I am trying to drain and smooth all the walls to stop the water but I am having trouble even seeing where it is coming from at this point. If I can save it, I will send it lol.

    i thought of using a similar river motte system ... does it not auto drain through the river that feeds it? its just adding a loop to the river... no?

    • @vonsch9793
      @vonsch9793 ปีที่แล้ว

      Blind means dry it up for maintenance. It's effectively part of the river as it runs, yes. No way to change that as it's built. If it had floodgates or bridges as dams, you could pump the water out and back into the river (or let it flow off a map edge underground) and get into it to fix or build things.

    On the topic of mods breaking the saves, there is a way around it, but not a comfortable easy one. The person sending their save would have to identify the installed mods, copy those mods folders with the correct numerical version number in () on the mod folders name and sent that with their save, and you could then put those mod folders into your installed mods directory. As i said, not an easy or comfortable way.

    Is there a keystroke or button to hit that brings all your dwarves to meeting areas or something? I hate when a siege comes and i end up having half my pop outside of my fort when i lock doors, and then trying to let dwarves in but keep enemies out becomes awful. And i think moats are more work than theyre worth, its a very nice aesthetic but if youre in an area where it will freeze in the winter that makes a fort too accessible by enemies i feel

      assign a burrow anywhere inside your fort, assign all dwarves to it, when you unpause the burrow they run where u told em to, then you raise your bridge and you can pause the burrow again once you got them inside, a bridge blocks anything like a door once its raised btw do it acts like a big door

    hm... would be nice if there was a 'localized mods' folder per-world. that way worlds won't break, since all mods loaded would basically be part of that world with their mod version basically frozen. not saying that's a perfect workaround, but from what I understand, DF mods on average are pretty small.

    • @vonsch9793
      @vonsch9793 ปีที่แล้ว

      I actually thought this was how it worked. Guess not. Considering how DF does saves, should be done this way. Just make the mods part of the world gen and save, and not changeable after that. Trade-offs, but be easier for sharing files.

    • @Sworddeath727
      @Sworddeath727 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Elves usually allow you a quota, if you want to keep future trees from growing just draw a large empty stockpile over the entire map and every covered space will be forbidden from growing (unless this changed in the steam release) then meet your quota every year then cover the former location of every tree you cut by extending the blank stockpile until the trees are only in places you want them to be.
      I also use this to make sure trees give each other space because they love to grow next to each other which converts a space above one of the trunks to a floor tile of some kind then causes a cave in when cut down and somehow the dwarves always pick the spot below said floor tile as the spot they want to stand while cutting the tree.
