As a goalie who started mid 90’s with Copper Reactor (series 1).. I can attest.. heavy! not easy to move in (Roller Hockey)! But that’s why you played the Hasek style! Loved it! 🤟😂❤️

I love how Charles acknowledges your natural athletic abilities and really has an appreciation for seeing you play in that 90's gear. Also how you encouraged him and his play as well. @@BonesyTV I’ve started a bit of collection of my gear mostly late 2000s and onwards but is difficult to find stuff being based here in the UK. Loved your gatekeepers you and refurbed, I would like to have my 570s refurbished at some point
Such a classic pad. There are some pretty iconic sets of pads from the early 2000s. I’m sure we’ll see more and more of the popping up over the next few years.

Can't get it here in Michigan either that I know of..and one of my favorites too. Made a few stops on the way day with no luck, and then finally the gas station around the block from the apartment there had it.

Love this video, I've watched probably 10 times now. It's just great to see that style that's just kind of lost now. I break it out in pick up games for the fun of it and honestly to give the younger guys and my son a show. Is modern butterfly more efficient? Absolutely. Does a sliding upright wall beat the look of a splits glove save? Absolutely not.
Remember my high school goaltender equipment it was Victoriaville same as Kelly hrudey I created my goaltenders mask myself from Play It Again Sports featuring the Cooper helmet in a cage I created that kind of look like Tommy's soderstrom I wasn't much to look at

The reactor 5 set was my dream set as a kid.
Was definitely a beauty to test out!
What I find interesting is that those Coopers (Reactors) are the size of what we all wore back then, but it looks so absolutely foreign and small now. Looking at the older stuff, they look even more outlandishly tiny. Still, I stand by the look and feel of the older gear. The modern stuff just looks like you're wearing two big blockers on your legs.
Hahaha pads are definitely more planky compared to older gear.

What chest protector were you using? As a 70’s goalie we didn’t want to take it in the chest, it was not exactly protection. I find now I play butterfly Hasek style. Hard to let go of the old habits.
I’m using an old Vaughn from the 80s but Charles is wearing an old two piece setup. You’ll have to ask him what it is exactly
Cooper SA95 and BP30 2 piece.

Is it possible to perform a proper butterfly in such goalie pads?
I think proper is a loose term from era to era. A butterfly from the 90s looks way different than a butterfly of today. But to answer your question, yes!
@@BonesyTV I guess, I have to practice more because there's still a gap between my old pads (Hespeller) that I can't close.
