  • To say this was a rewarding experience for me would be an understatement.
On my road trip to Nashville I was able to meet up with Nate Bowers, a 12 year old AAA goalie that occasionally steps out on the ice in his own set of vintage Cooper goalie gear.
This video is a follow up to the VLOG video I did about my visit with Nate
( • Cooper Goalie on the R... ). He and I got together on a zoom call to talk about the gear he wore from my collection and his thoughts on the old school style of play.

Yes! 16:00 I wish I could stack 'em like this! Great follow through technique with the 2nd leg! Just like they taught back in the day!

You'll notice there are no clips of me with the pad stack...no way in heck I was going to follow that with my attempts! 😂

What a considerate and well-spoken young man. I'm so happy to see a young player with an appreciation of the goaltending styles and gear that came before him. He definitely seems like a student of the game, and I think he's going to go far!
I know you were tired in that game Charles, but I thought your stance and balance were really looking good.

Thank You! Nate's one heck of a goalie and quite committed to always getting better. I'm looking forward to watching him continue.

The kid looks like a natural stand up goalie. He looks like a tiny Jim Craig. And of course he’s got the modern techniques down based on the highlights from his league play you included.

Good video! I've seen his videos as well on IG. It's a good feeling seeing the next generation of young goalies appreciate the old school equipment. Cheers!

Man, as a Vintage Goalie Enthusiast, and vintage hockey equipment. I envy this kid. I have some 1960's Cooper Hockey gloves and still use a straight blade stick.

Great seeing all the old gear!!!! Just to make one point about the full fiberglass Mask I wore them for 15 years from 1974 to 1989 I got 10 stiches and a few bruises I didn't think I was crazy wearing them I had a Plante, John Brown, Higgins, and a Greg Harrison Mask during that time, even a Cooper HM6 for a few months.... I'm just giving you info since I wore them back in the day... I still play and I wouldn't wear one now....Keep up the great work!!!!

Love this post guys! Johnny Bower taught me the pokecheck when I was 11... he taught me to never look at the ref ...he said the only time he ever got a tripping penalty is when he looked at the ref after the play.

Great advice about not looking at the ref after a poke-check. I passed it onto Nate!

Search everywhere. eBay, Craigslist, Facebook, Kijiji, OfferUp, SidelineSwap, local garage sales, thrift stores, etc etc etc. It’s out there.

Great chat with a very thoughtful, knowledgeable, and well spoken young tendy!! Love this whole Nashville series Charles!! Favorite clip was Nate snagging one then giving it a good punt out of the crease lol!! Great stuff!!

Thanks for the feedback Mike. 🙏
I really enjoyed this video too. Nate is such a good kid and an amazing goalie. I was quite surprised to see how well his abilities translated to the vintage gear. I also liked that punt, but I think some of my favorite clips are the times he would have a puck in the glove and just be playing with it..tossing it up and catching it, etc. it’s like you could see him processing the thought of that being THE style/design of glove in the old days and imagining what it would be like to have been a goalie in that era.

Соберите две команды в ретро форме и проведите матч, было бы очень интересно!

I agree! That would be a blast. I just haven't been able to find enough people willing to do it..and I certainly don't have enough vintage player gear to outfit them all either.

Excellent video Charles! Very nice work editing all this great footage together. That afternoon was a true “living history” lesson for Nate. I can’t tell you how much I appreciate you making this experience possible for him!
