I used polly stain on my hardwood floor then use a basket with some left over polly stain ot was a dogs bed wicker it lasted more than ten years it would make your basket back pack last for many more years !

Your setup would be particularly good for carrying sticks and traps as those would ruin a cloth pack for sure.

I must haved missed it but, is that A STAINED PACKBASKET OR PLASTIC? I have never seen one like it. I hade a packbasket that was given to Me by My grandfather, up in Northern Maine (NEW) at the time. He used his own for trapping Beaver. They were natural color and made y the local Indians.

Pretty cool; I started down this rabbit hole with one of your previous videos, and discovered I already had a big military surplus pack with a plastic frame, so I took off the 150 gallon miilitary bag that was on it, and was left with a nice, light frame, a belt and a set of straps. I plan to keep it light, modular, and probably use it alot for hauling camera gear for landscape photography. Or whatever ! Looking forward to seeing this evolve. Thanks.

Great content Dave! I too have been working on a modular system similar to this. I have a suggestion/question. I haven't seen anything like this available but I've only done some basic searching so maybe you or anyone else reading this might have. What I'm talking about is a pack basket that has a hard bottom and 4 supports that run up the outside either on the sides or corners. As long at the supports could bear the weight of a person in theory you could turn the basket over and have a camp stool. Done correctly the supports could also provide solid connection points to lash gear to that otherwise might be too heavy for the basket "molle" weave. Thanks for all the inspiring videos. We appreciate them all!

Blackie does OG surplus systems...tbh...thats me. I'm f'ing poor Af, can't do latest and greatest. Alas, swampfox tech gets it done. I learned all the knots, all the pioneering, from OG BSA, before the satanic inversion. Old scout manuals.....find them. Dave, I love you brother. I'm all in on the 18E stuff. We can have cool shit. Some of us literally have Alice suspenders. Does not matter. Knife, fire steel and a pot and watch out. Country boy can survive! Please pay attention to the meagers. We are here to...watching the collapse. Btw...get the grayl ..and nest cup. Worth weight in gold. God bless. Also the EDS was awesome. I do my version but the goruck boots are next. Thanx for all you do Dave!!!!

From my iPhone I am not sure if l can edit my comments. I just had another thought. Is it possible to make those toggles from Ferrocerium Roda. That would make them multifunctional though the cost would be much higher I think that it’s worth the extra cost. Please let me know if this is a good or bad idea and why it’s bad. If you drill them yourself you should have plenty of Ferrocerium powder to add to your fire kit.

Great video!!! I think your on to something. Maybe it's what you have in the works but why not a mole pack basket???? Totally makes sense. There are so many small bags in the after market that they can be independent from the basket itself.

Hi Dave, greeting from Australia 🇦🇺, thank you for your time to make these videos, Just a thought why dont you get a small whirly bin and strap that on, that way you have a lid, water proof, and small wheels to pull it, when not on the frame. Great for water storage, multiple use. Just a thought, what do you think,.

Heck yeah! I LITERALLY just posted a few days ago on the group about how I STILL keep going over your 21st Century Longhunter Series and how timeless the woodlore in it is. I currently have a MOLLE II ruck on my Bull-Pac, but I'm going to swap that out for a coyote FILBE ruck. The 21CLS was what brought me over to Camp Canterbury & woodcraft and delivered me from the fluff of the "other"crafts out there.

Excellent video series! I really like these types of videos and appreciate your ideas and research on this application. After watching the first or previous video on this system, I was able to find and purchase an older Kelty external pack and frame on the cheap so I could kinda follow along with the build. Thanks for the video and for sharing your thoughts, ideas and experience with us Dave.

  • @MI_Prepper

Great ideas. I've never seen a "pack basket," but it looks very durable. The external frame for a pack is really SO MUCH better in a hot climate to give you good airflow. Great job, Dave!
