    I bought Gen8 myself a week ago. Great product but keep these in mind before you purchase.
    1. If you are a Linux user, there is no fingertip driver support. Hopefully Lenovo will do something about it.
    2. Speakers are really weak. Forget about cooking and listening to your favorite podcast :)
    3. As Andrew said a case is touch-sensitive, at least you will wash your hands before touching it and stay safe from COVID.
    4. Left Ctrl key placement...hard to get used to it.
    5. With some extra brightness on the screen and the keyboard, I would say you will get 5 hours of battery life (on Linux Mint 19).
    6. There is no point going from Gen 6&7 to 8. They are not significantly different.
    Still very happy with my decision to buy it. I place it one inch above MBT and XPS.
    Hope this helps. Cheers

    I received my Gen 8 2 week ago. Mine comes with the UHD(3840x2160) IPS Glare 500nits display and it is simply astounding display. You watch a TH-cam video and it's like you are there with them. The Dolby Atmos sound also is great.
    Coming from my previous bulky T520. It is so thin and light. I'm so happy with my choice.

    I returned my Macbook Air for the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 8. I couldn't waste more time on their faulty hardware. Initially, very hesitant as an avid Apple user... But damn, zero regrets.This product is beautiful. A lot of people talk about using this laptop for work but I use it recreationally and it works great.
    I was surprised to find the sound quality to be better than the Air. The speakers underneath help maximize its potential. Macbook wins the display by color just a bit, but without comparing, there's nothing to complain about! The Air runs a lot slower, overheats and crashes. None of those issues here especially with actual vents.
    Surprisingly, I did not find much of my fingerprints on the finish so I never found myself having to wipe it down. My experience with the battery is that it takes 1 hour to fully charge and will run out in 4 hours.

FYI: Look at my third comment on you unboxing video of the HP 15 in Spectre and also my comment on last week's live stream regarding the Thunderbolt ports on the Spectre. Hey, Andrew. Thanks for yet another excellent review. I think the UHD options in this size of laptops are overrated, esp without a dedicated GPU. This is a lovely editor's choice for the business professional. Btw, I have been thinking about the things that would make laptops even more secure and reliable. I think the addition of LTE and a hardware-based tracking device would make the systems harder to hack and harder to steal. Let's research on it and share what we come up with. Looking forward to the next livestream. Keep up the awesome work 👍🏾.

    Wish it had a 16 by 10 display, AMD 8 core U-series chips would have been the move they should have made with all of Intel's CPU security flaws that have been coming up these past few years. But I heard Lenovos T series has AMD options too so might be a better fit for me

      It could double as a space heater; the thermals of the new AMD Ryzen processors are already toasty in the T14s chassis, so they can only be that much worse in the even smaller X1 Carbon.

    There is no security if you don't start with a Free BIOS (Coreboot being the alt option) then a trusty Linux OS.
    We remember what is going on with the IME (AMD also have their version of it).
    - Where's the kill-switch for the wireless?
    - Removable batteries have the advantage to protect devices from static discharges and ensure privacy if you use the broadband chip. Ask RichardSnowden on that point.
    - a dongle to use the basic ethernet really? at the time we're finally getting the fibre speeds.

    • @dervvy
      @dervvy 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Take my advice with a grain of salt. T490s is just the product that you get when you merge the qualities of the X1 Carbon and T490. X1 Remains superior, but the T490s is a good choice for a thin and light laptop with some power to go with it. But I highly suggest you do some research yourself since my advice is a little bit raw. T490s is also cheaper.

    Your video is a bit unclear. Are the speakers improved compared to the Gen7 or not? I have tested the 7th Gen from my friend and I really hate the speakers. No matter the settings the top facing speakers didn’t even make sound 95% of the times and in the other 5% it was so quiet that it’s basically like there is no sound. So basically all of the sound comes from below which is absolutely abominable when trying to watch a video with the laptop on the lap. After googling it I found that many people had this issue. So is the 8th Gen better? It would be the perfect laptop for me but the speakers really could break the decision.

    Andrew, this keyboard is terrible. All of your viewers need to know this. The 7th and 8th generation have a keyboard with a different key shape and travel. There are many reviews that document this. I returned the 7th generation because of this.
    The mouse software is now ELAN instead of Synaptics. Why, Lenovo???
    If you value typing, don't get the 7th or 8th gen.

  • @Belgarathe
    @Belgarathe 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thinks not discuss. You can under volt these suckers to get same performance, less heat, most importantly better battery life. Also not mention here is no bloatware stuff to remove ie norton antivirus. Keyboard typing only matters if you touch type though I prefer these over whatever Dell offered. Price already include quick charging so you won’t have to pay more money for faster charging. If you’re use to iPhone screens opt for qhd or 4K. The touch pad is responsive though not as big as Apple. If you’re a gamer and already have a dedicated pc game looking into streaming it to this laptop(message me if you’re interested). Sound is much better than 2 generations ago but MacBook is still the best. The debate of ddr3 and ddr4 isn’t a big of deal compare to the upgrade to newest intel chips. If you really need dedicated graphics look at either the extreme series or work bench series. Lastly the price seems more expensive than it competitors but anyone Lenovo fans know to wait for sales (which occurs frequently And shortly after the the product release). They are well built and very serviceable. People usually upgrade the hdd later on(oh Lenovo doesn’t cheap out on the type of hdd included). Even upgrade the screen and even the motherboard. Built for durability and even water splash on keyboard I would recommend this product for the sheer fact you could pass it down to your kids. If tight on budge I would consider the last generation. Overall a good product. They don’t do rapid changes but what you get is quality components that are easy to find if you need replace or upgrade.
