  • IN THIS VIDEO WE SAVE A 1999 STEINER 430 MAX THAT HAS BEEN SITTING FOR MANY YEARS IN A LITERAL JUNKYARD!! THIS MACHINE IS SIMILAR TO WHAT MATT WITH DIESEL CREEK HAS BUT THIS ONE IS IN A LITTLE BIT ROUGHER SHAPE AND OLDER LOL. THIS MACHINE HAS A 3 CYLINDER GAS KUBOTA WG750-E ENGINE THAT WE TRY TO GET RUNNING. IT ALSO HAS A SUNDSTRAND SERIES 15 HYDRAULIC PUMP THAT MIGHT HAVE SOME ISSUES.
    PLEASE CHECK OUT THE MACHINERY GRAVEYARD VIDEO WHEN WE FIRST FIND THIS MACHINE- • MACHINERY GRAVEYARD… W...
    HERE IS PART 2 ON THIS MACHINE- • SAVING A STEINER 430 M...

    You will Love the Steiner tractor! But please don't take the pump apart. I was a Steiner tractor dealer for many years and still run a 420 model with many many more hours on it than yours! Any rattling noise is likely from the driveshaft or loose mounting bolts on the pump. The other probable cause is air in the hydraulic fluid. Recheck the oil level in the front gearbox several times because the fluid transfers between the gearboxes and takes quite a while to adjust to where it wants to stay. Also, any time you change the fluid or change the filter, you are supposed to run the hydraulic motors in forward for several minutes with both gearboxes in neutral to work all the air out of the system. Then repeat in reverse. All of this with no load and both gearboxes in neutral. Also you need to make sure you used the correct oil. Special synthetic hydrostatic oil is needed, NOT regular hydraulic oil because regular hydraulic oil will cavitate at the extreme pressures inside the pump and motors and cause foaming of the oil and extreme wear inside the pump and motors. By the way, the Kubota 3 cylinder gas was the most dependable engine ever put on a Steiner tractor! Congrats on finding one!

      @TheHomePros6221  ปีที่แล้ว +6

      gosh thank you soo much for all the great info!! however I checked everything and the fluid but I’m sure it’s the pump, this machine had really low hydro fluid at first and I think that caused issues and the metal shavings in the oil ☹️

    It does my heart good so see someone go about checking out and repairing equipment in a logical manner! So many of these "will it start" videos are endless beating on an obviously dead horse instead of doing the obvious: Clean the carb, check the spark, ensure a clean fuel supply, use a fresh battery. Then, once you've established that it will run, fix it right! Very impressed!

    I think the manual fuel pump was a good idea. The Kubota motor in those machines is one of the better ones that they came with. Some of the other gas ones you can't find parts for anymore. Looked at one last year that was in similar shape to yours but didn't have a Kubota so I passed.
    Great video!

    • @TheHomePros6221
      @TheHomePros6221  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      thanks a bunch! yea I like the manual pump much better and it’s a cleaner look, I’m really glad it has the kubota I’d love it if it had a diesel to, but these gas kubotas are supposed to last 3,000+ hrs so we will c I guess.

    So watched the whole thing now. I find it incredibly and sad that someone bought this machine for a LOT of money and then it was so neglected! Good that you got it running again, it deserve a better faith than fading away on that dump! Regarding the Sundstrand 15, I have heard that they are basically bulletproof so I bet it is the steering orbitrol valve that makes the strange sound. Would be cool to see what this machine could do with a small bucket.

    Yesterday my neighbor and I, mostly him, drained and changed the hydro oil in my 430 Max era 2004. I followed a video from Steiger 256, on that process which made is easy! Today I wanted to change the engine oil on the Kubota 3 cyl. and could NOT find the drain plug. My son finally stopped by and located it. I knew we had replaced it with a "quick drain" years ago, but I still couldn't find it. LOL. He reached under, pulled on the small metal tab, turned it 90 degrees over the catch pan and the oil drained out. I strongly recommend using a quick drain for this tractor bcause it's very difficult to access a plug with a wrench or socket. Then I remembered it took 3 qts, but that also very hard to find even in the service manual. I wrote the dates on both filters and the hours with a black Sharpie and sprayed them with clear enamel so they won't was or wear off.

    I love finding cool stuff in junk yards and restoring them and most of the time keeping and using them. I found a 1985 Yamaha trimoto three wheeler and I have not been able to find a bearing case for it anywhere so I am building an aluminum casting furnace that runs on waste motor oil. I also found a Ransome bobcat 48 inch walk behind or sulky pull mower. My prize was a Miller bobcat Welder sitting in someone's backyard for 20 years. Keep up the great work.

    I’ve had a Steiner 430 for 24 years and it has been great. Koehler engine that I replaced with a 30 hp. You can get parts for that unit from a Steiner dealer. They still support the 430. Originally made by the Steiner brothers but then sold. After non compete clause ran out they started Ventrac. Units are very similar.

    Great video! I just found you today. A few things. Find the correct procedure to get the air out of the hydraulics. There is one specific to that system. If you don't it will cause you problems going forward.
    2. Just a trick I found to help fill those hydrologic systems. Find a long skinny straw from a convenience store, put it in the funnel into the fill port. When you fill it will allow the air to escape. You're bright guy! You will see how that works. There is a tape called self- vulcanizing. Use that or wire loom instead of electrical. You won't have gummy problems in the future.
    My opinion cost as much as they are worth. Absolutely nothing! 😂 Great Job! I'm looking forward to watching the rest of your stuff. I have run out of new stuff that I watch. I'm retired now. It's good to see someone like you rescue things in a throwaway society!

    Always easier to cobble up a cap and pressure test any tank before putting into use. Same with any boiler installation. Easy to repair when dry not so much when fumes and moisture are in them.

    So many vehicles and equipment abandoned through neglect in the rich countries. Is it laziness, a tax benefit to purchase new or just a general throw away society attitude.?. Better care and maintenance would have kept this machine working for several more years. I enjoy seeing the efforts of the few on u tube who have the incentive and skill to restore such things to a useful working order again.
