Great video. I haven't trained to Florida from DC in a while, but I plan to do it again soon. Your videos show all the best and most positive parts of the trip. Thanks.
Sat here on my lunch break from work in Shrewsbury, the United Kingdom. I was a regular traveler to the USA and took the train whenever I could. Your video just bought back a lot of memories. I hope you keep up your enthusiasm for rail and perhaps we will see you riding the trains of Europe one day? Happy travels!
Nice video young rail fanner, you did a terrific job. I was fortunate to ride these trains when they were operated by Seaboard Coast Line and Atlantic Coast Line when cars were so much better and they always ran on time. SCL's Silver Meteor always had cream of peanut soup on dining car menu and ACL's Florida Special was quite a train. Oh well Amtrak trys but. Enjoyed your video, thanks.
Now that I have caught up I see you stopped in Richmond. The golf cart goes crazy around there. I hoped it treated you well. Since we live right near there I will film there and hope to meet you or other railfanners. Again nice videos and I liked this one in particular
I took a trip to DC from Richmond VA and wish I had as much fun as you did. I love watching your vids. I hope to take a trip on the Acela and will film that. Keep up with the good work
I did enjoy your video. I'm thinking about riding amtrak down to Florida from Philadelphia and I noticed that you had a "roomette" on the way up but just rode in a coach on the way back, I think I'd hate travelling in a coach for such a long period, but there must be a significant cost difference between coach and a roomette.
Thomas that was fantastic. You and your family had a blast. I need to do that one day. You took some great shots. Loved it. Tell your parents I said hi. Thanks again. :)
Thanks for sharing your video. You should try the Amtrak Coast Starlight from Los Angeles to Seattle WA (Train #14) ... 1 and 1/2 days... nice scenery, 100 miles on the Pacific Ocean, Vandenberg Air Force Base, 31 tunnels etc.!
I loved your video!! Very informative!! I am looking at going to Palatka from NY NY on the sleeper next year. Knowing which stops u can step outside helps a lot.
RailFannerFlorida - Husband and I were able to retire early and have already been emptying the 'bucket list', both of us love to travel and because flying is too difficult, I have an altitude restriction because of a bad heart which causes breathing problems [and TSA are jerks about the portable oxygen maker I took just in case], we're both very tall [6'4 and 6'5] and some airlines cram you into seats even in first class, so what better way to go than on Amtrak! We just completed our first long distance trip last December [2017], Chicago to Los Angeles and back in a bedroom car on the Texas Eagle. We passed thru Illinois, Missouri, Arkansas, Texas, Texas, Texas, Texas, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and California. The trip west was one delay after another, mostly to wait for freights, track slow downs and weather. It was snowing in El Paso!! All together we arrived in LA almost 6 hours late BUT the the snack car was open and the bar was stocked!! We spent two nights in a nice hotel near the station, turned around and headed home. Every Amtrak employee we met - from the Amtrak CS agent that booked our trip [and found us a few hidden discounts and a train with a Park Ranger presentation], our car attendant [who had us spoiled rotten], the food servers, the cab car driver that allowed me to avoid that 'long walk' to our sleeper car to the people working the 'first class' waiting lounges were exceptional - we took names and we wrote letters to Amtrak suggesting they all get nice pay raises!! And a tip for anyone planning to Amtrak, if you're in a sleeper car PLEASE tip your car attendant, it's a hotel on wheels, BUT discretely hand it to them at your destination DON'T leave it in the room because someone may take it. You really rode coach on the way back to Florida!? YIKES, to be young again!! Santa left us a pair of round trip tickets, Chicago to Nawlins [my husband's home town] in a bedroom car on the City of New Orleans, we leave this March. We're planning a round trip Chicago to Walt Disney World Orlando [ten years my stomping ground] via a few days in DC in sleeper cars on the Capital Limited and the Silver Service just before Christmas this coming December. We really enjoyed your video, thanks for posting!!!
This is when the Silver Star still had a dining car. No more. Sleeper prices are supposedly cheaper, but you food service is limited to a snack bar car. I've seen the menu. It's OK for a short trip, but unacceptable, in my opinion for a longer trip like NY-FL. I'll pay more for the Silver Meteor and have a decent meal in a real dining car.
I am going to be going on Silver Meteor PO98 at 12:37am in very early June to NYC, then staying their for couple days (leaving possible time for railfanning) and then going on the Maple Leaf up to Toronto in Canada. Visiting my uncle and his family for a few days then we will head back on the Adirondack (one of the most scenic train routes in the world) to NYC, then staying again for a day or two, then going on Silver Meteor PO97 back to here :P 😲😎
Great video. I haven't trained to Florida from DC in a while, but I plan to do it again soon. Your videos show all the best and most positive parts of the trip. Thanks.
Very nice ... I love it ... You have wonderful family... Hope to see more soon

Good video! One comment, however. When you move the camera around slow down.
