RARE versions of "The Farm" (1994) and "The Airport" (1995)

- Yes, the RARE early versions of the first two entries into Humongous Entertainment' and Random House's "Junior Field Trips" series.
The first game has already been showcased by @MrEightThreeOne back in 2017, but I don't know if anyone has showcased the rare early version of "The Airport" on TH-cam. These are rare editions that only ONE seller Ive seen (in the case of "The Farm" (1994)") on eBay is currently selling in sealed copies. I still can't believe these are in my collection.

Looks very close to the demo version basically complete with the really wide question mark button and the smaller stop button. You never did show the index in this video (at least from my skimming); does it have any differences from the more common version? I know Farm didn't let you click individual words on the definitions; the demo version of this game also didn't have the animated pictures in it and I'm wondering if that still holds true for this release.
Very cool you found this! It's crazy an earlier version of this wasn't known about until now. I thought I had found an early version of this at one point but to my recollection the actual game was identical to the more common minigames-included version. Thank you for sharing this!
I just compared the index in my copy to the one in your walkthrough of the more common version of the game. It nothing appears to be different in the words and order of the index. I can also click on individual words in the definitions in the earlier version. The buttons on the bottom are indeed different.
I need to admit I am relatively new to the Humongous Entertainment world and don't know the games as well as you do. (I was deprived of these as a child, sadly). Hopefully you could elaborate on where the animated pictures you're talking about would be. If you would like to purchase a copy yourself. Just go to eBay and type in "junior field trips the airport" im the search and you'll see the $12.85 listing I found on eBay that I got my version from, If you are able to. There are some other listing's that appear to be the same disc I have (but without the case, making me wonder if this version is so rare anymore), but the $12.85 listing was the one I got mine from. The same seller also had the original version of "The Farm". They were sealed. I don't know if they'll send you the same version I got. But that's where I got it from.
I also wanted to mention that my early copy of "The Airport" crashes ScummVM 2.8.1 when running off the CD, but running the eaely "The Farm" in ScummVM 2.8.1 off the CD works fine. That's why I recorded this on my old laptop running Windows XP.
@@mediaplane-excag Oh okay! So in the later version, throughout the index there are terms where the picture given as an example is animated. I think maybe "altimeter" is one such case? In the demo version, it's static. I was just wondering if it was static here too.
As for the game crashing, it's probably just because it's an unknown version. There's a way to tell the ScummVM team about unknown versions but I don't recall how to do it right now. At least you were able to get footage! Neat you still have that old computer around!
I just checked my copy's index and some of the pictures are indeed animated. I checked "altimeter" and "computer" and they are both animated.
@@mediaplane-excag Oh okay! So it sounds to me like this version is nearly identical to the original basically and the only real divergence is the lack of minigames. Not quite as interesting as Farm which has a number of other differences but still very interesting none the less! Thanks for showing this! It's very cool you found it!
