Peter went through so much in this movie. He had trouble paying the bills, was on the verge of failing his classes, the Daily Bugle constantly painted him as a villain, his best friend hated him, the love of his life was getting married to someone else and most of all, he still felt guilty for what happened to Uncle Ben. Man, no wonder he lost his powers. He was under so much stress that he subconsciously didn’t want to be Spider-Man anymore.
TuRain Wai I agree. I guess Peter Parker is still feeling guilty for what happened to Uncle Ben. Last time, when Peter Parker saw that Uncle Ben was still alive, they argue. When Peter tells Aunt May the truth and she learned that Peter wasn't at the library.
Say all you want about the visual effects, but the tentacles on doc ock’s body is still phenomenal. They combined the usage of robotics, puppeteering, and cgi.
Honestly I think it was stupid that being very stressed stops his powers, but in Spider-Man 3 he seems to control it more when he was stressed about how the symboite ruined his relationships with his friends, I’m glad it doesn’t happen to mcu Peter.
The scene where Peter is having dinner with Doctor Octavius and his wife was intended as a sad mirror of the family life that Peter wants but can never have
It also shows that it’s possible to follow your dreams and also have a relationship. Otto Octavius has his dream of Science and a loving wife which shows Peter it is possible to have both
Peter: “Why is this happening to me?” Otto: “Love should never be a secret. If you keep something as complicated as love stored up inside, it’s gonna make you sick.”
I love how they show him falling from that hit, hitting a building, knonking his head off a metal dumpster and faceplanting. Only to casually get back up. Shows how durable dude is
I swear I could cry watching these Spiderman films. Not only was it my childhood but also had lots of the kind of drama that forces tears, especially that in this Spiderman film. :'(
Idk why the beginning part of this clip is just so... calming. Seeing Spidey swinging a very slow motion edit feels.. nice. Makes me wish I had Spidey powers. Imagine the view.
0:00 - 0:15 One of the most powerful Spider-Man swings ever. He used to swing low to the ground, near the people, full of thrill and excitement. But now he's swinging high, away from everyone, filled with solemn. He hates being Spider-Man. All it does is destroy his life. He doesn't enjoy swinging anymore
I like how he's just swinging casually but the slow-mo shows us that he was heartbroken and lost faith in himself despite the mask. How genius the director was!
Ah... The good ol days, when Superhero films had Storytelling, without a ton of pointless dialogue... What am I talking about? Spider-Man 2 is the only superhero film with this level of storytelling. A true masterpiece.
Superman. So far the only Superman film that utilizes one of Superman's lesser-known weaknesses: the inability to be in multiple places at once. Sure the dialogue is corny, but dammit it's a reinterpretation of silver age supes for a more modern (at the time) age. Goofiness is to be expected.
Tony Kourmantzis I tought he lost he's powers because of he got cut by the razor pf the green goblin So he's got spider powers in he's DNA right so if he lost a tiny bit of he's DNA he would loose he's powers.
Tobey Maguire had the best Spiderman suit. The red looks so clean same with the blue, the lines are visible and easy to see unlike the others and the spider logo looks sick.
This scene is ahead of time. The entire trilogy is. I love how it looks it’s amazing and the transition between cgi and practical is seem less it’s amazing
This is the film you appreciate more as an adult because you understand his situation. As a kid, I didn't like this film because it didn't have as much action. After rewatching it recently, I slowly got more and more frustrated at how many times Peter got screwed over because that's life in general. You try to do good and the world says "nah" and smacks you 9 times out of 10.
Literally how I used to feel when I was depressed and suicidal but I finally overcame those feelings. It’s characters like Spider-Man that make us understand not only ourselves but the world around us. This movie was way ahead of its time for sure.
I like the symbolic connection between the power he has over his life and emotions and his ACTUAL powers. That sort of thing confused me as a kid but growing up I learnt to appreciate how spectacular this concept was because it just makes sense. Spider-Man was constantly in Peter’s way of developing or even maintaining a decent happy life. Relatable in the sense individuals can struggle to find balance e.g work life with social life. Edit: Of course there can be other interpretations on the loss of his powers, because they all make sense. Peter loses his powers due to being Spider-Man, so he just stops being Spider-Man and becomes happier.
+Doctor Strange Also The Polar Express and Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. Being a 5 year-old kid at the time, I can honestly say that 2004 was the best year for movies
the alleyway scene is one of my top favorite scenes in any spider-man movie. the way the scenery looks, the way the suit looks on tobey. the weight of the scene. literally perfection.
Best movie out of the trilogy. Storytelling at its finest ! Tobey’s Peter Parker is so relatable to what an average human being goes through on a daily basis
Please Tobey Maguire come back as Peter Parker/Spiderman and bring Sienna Guillory as Peteri Parker/Spiderwan in Doctor Strange 2 Multiverse of Madness and Tom Holland's Spiderman 3
I love the beginning of this scene. Because he’s Spider-Man he can’t be with the girl he’s loved his entire life. He just lost her forever because he is Spider-Man. If I had been going through the same thing I’d be swinging through New York as well. I’d imagine the task is almost comforting and gives you time to think.
This can relate to real life when you're so burnt-out and lost all passion in life, you can no longer do anything even the things you normally can do. But when you're motivated, like what spidey here soon regained, there's almost nothing you cannot do.
Tom suits the character better in this aspect, his skills. Tobey's Spiderman seemed to just know how to use all his powers instantly and mastered them very fast, didn't have to learn much. Tom's Spiderman on the other hand makes quite a few mistakes because he's still learning and it took him Time to master his powers, and he's still learning all of his suits powers. Maybe it's just better storytelling idk
I love that initial shot as he comes into frame, it looks really lonely because of the dead space of the sky between the Empire State building and the apartments. It's fitting for Peter in that very moment as he doesn't really have anyone in his life other than Aunt May.
Alot of people chalk this up to PTSD, and stress. What I see? I see this as a marker of self-doubt. Think about it, he almost lost Aunt May to Doc Oc, he is in a situation of what he doesn't know what to do when it comes to Mary Jane despite trying his best, Harry has forsaken him, and now with the flash back to Uncle Ben, he himself says it, he is Spiderman ''No more'', as not having the ability to live up to what his Uncle would have wanted. He is in a state of self doubt, not knowing if he is good enough to be the hero, and the man he is supposed to live up to. I can give a much detailed description if anyone does happen to want to know my reasoning.
There's also the fact that he is in a place where all of the emotional stressors in his life are contributing to his deminishing desire to even be Spider-Man anymore. He's filled with doubt about being Spider-Man.
100% on everything except That uncle Ben scene there's always been something off about it, some say it's no his uncle but Spiderman man like a manifestation of his uncle as himself talking to Peter and how he should keep being Spiderman.
In the shot where we see him swinging and it's up close to his face, I always thought that was a real actor rather than CGI. The movements and everything are so spot on. Another thing I've only noticed in recent times is when he raises his hands to look at them after saying "why is this happening to me?" they make a subtle *swish* sound.
More like "When Sony started getting their grubby little fingers in Spider-man movies and gave the director and writers little to no control". Blame Sony not Andrew
Devlin the periodic dominator Yeah but because of Sony they were forced to cast Andrew Garfield and in my own humble opinion Andrew wasn't that bad blame the writing of his character
+Kyle Murphy I know but I wasn't hating on Andrew or Sony I was joking about the fact that he became Spider-Man and hence was why Peter was failing at shooting webs. I wasn't hating or talking about the production of the Amazing Spider-Man.
Devlin the periodic dominator honestly it gave me the idea of them cutting the budget and the entire set,CGI,light and stuff failing apart and being took to other movies and to the Reboot.
Here’s a fun fact! Stress causes spiders to loose the ability to think and even make webs! This relates to spider man because he has some much stress on him.
I kinda like how this scene kinda mirrors the one from the first movie when he discovers his wall crawling abilities and he realizes he can keep going up but here he seems unsure if he can still continue to go up
Peter Parker was going through Post Traumatic Stress Disorder from losing his uncle and fighting and killing the green goblin. That is why he lost his powers. Once he took a break and worked on his mental health, he got his powers back.
I can only imagine him having to walk around the city without powers offscreen, pretending to come from a costume party, just to get his clothes back where he left them.
And still got right back up as though nothing happened, and earlier in the film, he fell from, what? Several hundred feet? And the only thing he had to say to that was "What was that?". Really, throughout this entire trilogy, Peter endures some brutal punishment. I'd say the most durable and relentless version of Spider-Man.
The reason he lost his powers is due to stress that includes harry hating him, struggling to pay his bill, failing college, the daily bugle calling spider man a menace, he was jealous that mj was marrying someone else, and the spider man powers just can't handle it.
This scene from my childhood watching this in theaters was so heartbreaking for what Peter Parker has been going through, especially how Mary Jane was getting married and how much stress it's been killing him. As a kid I didn't understand why he was losing his powers, but after watching it again and my mother explaining this as an adult I totally understand what it's like to go through the type of crisis and you lose confidence within yourself. Tobey Maguire is one of the best actors to ever play as Spider-Man hands down since I've seen all of the trilogy's from Sam Raimi, also I still have all the Spider-Man movies on DVD and one on VHS tape brings me back memories.
I agree when I was a kid I didn’t understand at the time why Peter lost his powers as Spider-Man I’m 24 so I understand stress can take a serious mental toll
The redesign of the classic spider suit sam rami killed it there will never be a comic accurate/modernized suit as good as this one this movie hasnt even aged a bit

If my webs had failed beforehand I'd be terrified every time I swung afterwards, like jeez...
Seriously. Atleast swing a bit lower to the ground.

This scene is so perfect for me as a kid it’s really more better than the mcu
The close up at the start was beautiful
0:18 When you playing Spider-Man 3 and fail a QuickTime event

It's a prime example of when someone say:
"If nobody believes in you, believe in yourself"
The special effects in the original trilogy are better than some in 2020
That's a nice looking suit.
I wonder if his husband got it for him... This joke does not hold well.
His web block !!!
whenever your gonna shoot a web, hold on to the other first before u let go
Bonnie the Bunny "just hold on a second longer"
I'm gonna do that next time I choose to go swinging thx
I just picture Captain Obvious flying by and saying this to Peter in the alley before flying off.
@Solomon Hatch 😭😭🤣🤣🤣🤣
The redesign of the classic spider suit sam rami killed it there will never be a comic accurate/modernized suit as good as this one this movie hasnt even aged a bit
At first I thought this was a sign that he's going to turn into Man-Spider.
