$3,000 to $6,000? Seems like if it was at Geoge Washington's inaugural ball it would be priceless. Met the Keno's in front of the Chicago Art museum a few years back. Yeah I would have guessed it was worth more money. But here's the thing, this could have been worn at any number of celebrations not directly involving Washington and so they are valuing it based on it just being a privately made piece to commemorate the event. If she could prove one of her family members attended and could prove she got it from that branch of her family then she might be able to add a zero to the estimate In any case, it is really undervalued. I would be proud to have it in my collection of founding father items. I have a letter written to my ancestor John Adams from George Washington which is the centerpiece of my collection.

It's a very cool piece of American history and really belongs on display at the Smithsonian or other museum that can preserve it properly and display it for the public. Something like this needs to be accessible visually to appreciate it fully for the silk work, the art on it and the patriotism associated with its creation. That family will still own it, they can just lend it out to museums periodically if there's no permanent display space in a museum of their choice.
I hope more families donate treasures to museums so people can see the history for themselves and maybe open some eyes and minds up.

For that low of value by all means I would donate it to a historical museum.

It's not worth more because there is no name attached or it--George didn't wear it and she doesn't know who did. So while it's important as something from GW's life and related to him it doesn't call for the big bucks without a name/story attached.

One of The FOUNDERS of this country stash is worth less than some picaso piece of art?
