As with the other Beasties, Hasbro commissioned conceptual art for the Netflix show and, in part, for the figure designers. For some reason or another, Rhinox (and Megatron, at least)’s figures are designed following said concept art, NOT the original 3D models from the show.
Problem is, the concept art was based on the T30 figure, or at least an interpretation of it (someone found pronounced similarities with the Forged To Fight design).
Which means, the Kingdom figure has been designed following derivative concept art, which copied a robot design from a videogame, which was based on the T30 figure.
That's actually really plausible if I'm being honest I mean this is Hasbro we're talking about

Well,there is that theory that they made the whole animation in one whole go back when Siege and Earthrise was around, and the voice acting of course came afterwards. Thus, the reason of the models being based on the old toys and not the Kingdom figure.

Thank you, I try to pack in as much important material as possible in as little a time as I can.
Luckily Rhinox prefered keeping to the background, so placing him there in a display fits his character.

I grabbed up this guy back in the day and still have him displayed happily with other Beast Wars related figures. Yes you have to maintain his hips every once in a while, and yes his feet barely support him, but he's fun and feels like Rhinox.
Oh by the way, his arms collapse into his shoulders for Rhino mode. It's a tough lock you kinda have to manhandle but it's there.

This figure is really good it's a really good replacement for kingdoms figure I still think rhinox's transmetal form is his best toy (in my opinion of course) the figure is perfect by no means but it's still really good I recommend picking up the generations figure for anyone who doesn't have it

Yes but you were wrong in thinking it would happen after. This was well before the bad dreams of the Kingdom came to fruition.
I've actually figured out that the Kingdom head sculpt is based on the new Beast Wars comics...
For some reason.
Personally I don't see that as being correct. If anything the comic is based on the toy, but the comic has a much larger chin with a thinner beard.
They are a bit similar, but I think the best explanation is that the head is based on the original toy, which explains the Ear Cups.

You know it wouldn't surprise me to hear the ERcee, and the Kingdom Rhinox were designed by the same person.
Damn, I thought the kingdom figure was ok, but this completely blows it away. I’m no beast wars fan, but I can see the obvious quality difference. I’d definitely assume the old one to be the new figure if I saw them both for the first time. Also, glad that you mentioned the hollow back of the kingdom. That’s probably my least favourite part of the figure(I don’t care about articulation as I’ll never get the figure).

Yeah it's night and day how much better thought out this figure is. This feels like it was designed by someone who knew what they were doing.
It’s so weird how there are so many of these generations rhinoxes on eBay that are somehow missing a hand, rhino mode panels, and I even saw one missing an entire arm. It took me a month to find one actually complete for less than $100 after selling my kingdom one.
Weird, I didn't have that problem when I went looking.
@@PerspectiveEnd oh, yeah. If you search for him on eBay, there’ll be five figures for forty bucks that’ll miss a hand, or a rhino panel or two. The other five figures of this guy will be mint in the box for $150 bucks, and then there MIGHT be one completed for under 100 dollars.

I wasn’t expecting this but I get why you bought it, it does look more accurate to the show and has a better transformation but the only thing I would really want from this figure are those guns, they look very menacing.
I think the only place this is losing to the Kingdom is in Posability, but I get that this may not look as cool to others as it does to me, and people obviously won't value the accuracy as much either.

I was fortunate to get Thrilling Rhinox on sale at a Toys R Us in Korea (which still thrives in Asian shopping malls). 2014 was like the last year Hasbro Korea imported all they can from Generations to Takaratomy to AOE and all its one-off merch before they stopped giving a darn and just threw out the paltry casual consumer dregs of RID and TLK and SS. Then WFC revived the G market.
That sucks. At least you got this for a Reasonable price, but Hasbro really needs to start caring about more Markets than just the US and Japan.
I remember thinking that the kingdom looked perfectly fine, but looking at this figure is like taking a breath of fresh air.
Yeah, when you know what it should look like, and how close it can actually get, seeing the kingdom is like a douse of cold water.

I've had this figure for years and have absolutely loved it. Something it seems like you missed is that there's an upside down t shaped tab and slot in the inside of the rhino head and the base of the robot mode neck that lets it hold together more than with just friction
I do seem to have missed that because I have no idea what you are talking about. So there's like a locking tab that will prevent the jaw from dropping down if I use it?

Thrilling 30 figures are fantastic. They have great substitutes for WFC's failures and they have a lot of obscure characters given life by the comics.
Much better plastic quality too and transformations, plus yeah those stylized designs are awesome and I wish hasbro returned to that.
Springer, Arcee, Chromia, Bumblebee, Trailcutter, Hoist are some I can name off the top of my head but I know there's way more.
Also 2011 Generations is fantastic
T30 had a certain joyful quality to it that I think has become a bit lost now that every main line release is a rehash of an old character. I don't think I was ever happier looking at the shelf than when Generations was at it's prime.
Aside from ERcee what would you qualify as the WFCs failures?
@@PerspectiveEnd maybe not "failure", perhaps I misspoke, maybe mishaps and disappointments. For example, I love Siege Apeface, but can't stand the soapy plastic, something not really found in the TH30 line. I also don't know if the sales in upgrade kits for figures like impactor (which is pretty good) say anything about the quality of the figures (maybe just a better market for kits these days). Others with massive gaps and oddities like Doubledealer's stumpy legs or the amount of "back shields".
Coming back here after finding the figure for a good price. Just wanted to remember what I was in for.

The guns on the Takara Version look so sweet, though I do find the Gold Rhino to be off putting.
The thing with generations during that time, and early classics style stuff in general, they weren’t trying to be accurate, they where trying to be stylized and modern, and I have a feeling this guy was just sticking with that before combiner wars rebooted the whole concept of classics style figures
And yet this is More accurate to the Robot mode, and more realistic in the beast mode. It's doing everything the Kingdom set out to do. But better.

Accuracy or not, this is way better than the new Kingdom release we got. It's almost like this thing is meant to replace the Rhionx from Kingdom, but was 7 years too early.

great review. Honestly, i've not had the stability issues since rotating the hips back into the figure a little bit further than shown. It makes him shorter, but that's fine. I really liked this figure, still do. Also, somehow my review of this figrue was popular as hell for my channel

I used to have inexplicably popular videos, but for the most part my videos all live in lock step with one another and if it does better than normal it's usually very predictable.
The most unexpectedly popular video I ever made was the Siege Wheeljack Conspiracy video.
I was finally able to get my hands on this guy for a reasonable price at a second hand shop. Only thing was he's missing one of his guns and the hips were loose but that can be rectified. I got him for $25
That's a Fantastic price. Better than even if he was on shelves. Nice! Congrats man.

It's night and day, and it's hilarious how it's doing everything the Kingdom was trying to do but better.
So I’m someone that doesn’t mind if a figure isn’t %100 accurate to its show, and sometimes I even like it better than the show model (treachery, I know). For example, Siege Shockwave isn’t completely show accurate since he’s generally skinnier, a darker shade of purple, and his eye is a lot less beady. But I prefer the changes because they make him look better. To me, it makes more sense for a scientist to be skinnier, than to be jacked in comparison in g1 (and his eye being bigger looks cooler). So, this rhinox figure looks amazing to my eye, and I like the look of this a lot more than the original show, not to say the show design was bad or anything. I just think his entire chest and stomach being a rhino jaw is a bit weird and silly, so the jaw being smaller makes it look more like a centerpiece to be respected. His rhino head at his back is way bigger than the show model, but I prefer it. The show model had the rhino head shrink a bit, but the rhino head being smaller always looked disproportionate. I oftentimes like it when transformers have legit backpacks (not the entire altmode sitting on their back, and not a cluster of parts, just an actual backpack, like siege shockwave), so rhinox having one just works. His head sculpt is slightly different, but I like the changes. He doesn’t have too few mowhawk slats, and he doesn’t have too many, he has just the right amount. His mouth is also the perfect size. It doesn’t look like a slit across his face, but it also doesn’t look like a human mouth on a robot. So, I love the general look of this guy. Heck, even the rhino mode looks great. It has proportions like the show (unlike the kingdom), yet it still has a realistic flair to it.
Now, as for articulation, I think it’s fine, he is below average, but that isn’t bad. I won’t really miss wrist swivels since I rarely have a use for them. His elbows bending below ninety is disappointing, but i find a few less degrees of movement not to be very much worst, so to me, it’s basically a ninety degree elbow. And his knees pulling not even close to a ninety is annoying, yes, but I barely ever use ninety degree knees to their fullest, so I don’t really care about that either.
This thing isn’t a micro masterpiece or anything, but gosh dang, it’s a fun figure that just brings me blind joy when I see him along with my other beast wars figures. I think the reason why the kingdom is the way it is is a similar situation to the masterpiece movie bumblebee figure. It couldn’t compete with the T30, so they went weird with it. I think it was a dumb decision, and it absolutely should have been trying to be more accurate so people could have an actually affordable and accurate rhinox figure, but hey, I don’t care since I have a T30 one myself now
Personally I think it would make sense that Shockwave is beefy, because he'd absolutely upgrade him self, plus you don't think he'd hit the Gym?
Im happy I got this guy back when he first released, but Im sad my copy's hips are as loose as my last date.

Yeah, I think every copy of this ever made had loose hips.
I got very lucky with this guy, found him in a discount store a couple years back. Its a decent figure but his legs are a floppy mess. Even tried tightening the hip joints with super glue and it barely helped.
Yeah, I don't know how Hasbro was Ok with how bad these legs are. They aren't the floppiest I've ever seen, but they have terrible feet too, so he's the hardest figure I've ever had to try to get standing.

I have no idea if you know this, or if another commenter mentioned this, but according to the wiki the Kingdom Rhinox is based off of the Forged to Fight Rhinox. That's why it has the cup ears and others weird things.
That seems inaccurate, because the Forged to Fight Rhinox was clearly based off the T30 Figure, and I think the Ear cups are actually based off of Toy Loyalty.

@@PerspectiveEnd Yeah, it's like Ebay, but with a better haggling UI, no auctions, and generally lower prices, at the cost of the Customer support allegedly not being very good. No nightmare stories myself yet though. Also occasionally people make fake postings selling what is clearly thousands of dollars worth of rare Transformers for $150 or so, and I'm pretty sure it's a scam to try and take advantage of the bad customer support.

Oh hey I don't know if this will change your opinion about the earthrise wheel jack, but here's a funny story. The other night I was trying to stay up and watch the last episode of Loki but I was so tired I could hardly stand up so I had wheeljack just to have something to mess with to stay up, but that didn't work because I fell asleep like 2 minutes later and then accidentally rolled over him in the middle of the night, and asleep me thought it would be a good idea to chuck him at the wall as hard as possible which ended up leaving a dent in the wall and the wheel jack came out with a single paint chip on his gun. I have a tile floor as well so I have no clue how the figure came out virtually unscathed
It is impressive that he didn't break, though durability isn't one of my main issues.

After your last video, I've been looking into how to get this new figure, and it's really bloody tough to get in the UK. But as I suspected, this figure is a hell of a lot better than the new one. It also made me wonder about your thoughts of Waspinator. He also had a fantastic looking generations figure but is also getting a Kingdom figure either later this year or early next year, which I think is actually a pretty good looking figure from what the leaks are showing.
I do think the knew Waspinator look pretty solid, and I do like the old one too. Sorry this figure eludes you so in the UK.
I dunno why hasbro didn’t just re release this it was pretty good and quite accurate, I understand that the kingdom figure was supposed to be accurate the kingdom show but Optimus primal head sculpt was not accurate to the kingdom show but the original beast wars show so I don’t why they should’ve just re release this

Which I'm glad. I watched your kingdom rhinox review and I dont plan to get it. The generation rhinox I love it. Idc if it isn't accurate the engineering is fun and so is the transforming despite not doing the guns with it.
I remember seeing this at Toys R Us with Sharkbite and one other that was just flooding the shelves but that was right around the time my daughter started showing interest in Transformers so we started with Metroplex but the rest sold before we could get them.
It's unfortunate that you missed out on this cause it's real solid, but at least you have a Metroplex. That's more than I can say.

I know the figure is called Generations Rhinox, but why is it also called Thrilling 30s? Maybe they think those of us in our 30s will be thrilled with this release?
Thrilling 30 was a subline of Generations, celebrating the 30th anniversary of Transformers. 30 years, 30 figures.
As Remus Lupin just said it was called that for the 30 year anniversary of the whole franchise. It was a TRULY terrible name that no fans liked.
I have the Thrilling 30 Rhinox and its hips/legs are very loose right out of the box. (that I’d mistransform it just to make it standup, by shoving the waist piece up, which disables its waist swivel and in the process makes it more shorter/squad looking than the Kingdom ver.)
Yeah that's what I've heard from every review. It's not even mold degradation it just never worked in the first place.

I’ll just wait until Takara releases a Beast Wars Masterpiece Rhinox with rear perfect accuracy to the cartoon. (like all their other Beast Wars Masterpiece toys)
The take away is this is far and away a better figure despite being way older.
Also, in regards to Rhinox's hind quarters... Perspective End doesn't like a soft tush, which means a tighter firmer buttocks is likely more appreciated on a Rhinox.
I like it when the ass is hard like plastic. Honestly everything about them should be hard and ungiving. When I touch them everything about the sensation should scream at me we are Biologically incompatible.

@@PerspectiveEnd the deluxes in the 2011 dotm toyline cost around 16 dollars and they were bigger and way more painted compared to modern figures that are way more expensive ,smaller and less painted like where do our money go? It doesn't make any sense

It's gold. Just like his beard. Also there isn't just one logo in this one.

We all splurge. I recently paid $70 for Takara Legends Arcee because of your video, actually. She's a joy. It felt so good getting an older figure again.

I'm still surprised that Generations Rhinox holds up pretty well,Not to say that the Kingdom version is bad but it's Good in its own right.
I'd say that the Kingdom Version is Terrible, but yes the Generations one's holds up quote well, it needs some heels, and a few more joints that are standard now, but it's quite good for the time, and still decent now.
Would you pick up the og Rhinox figure just for the hell of it though?
I actually still have my childhood Rhinox, thought it's been completely RUINED so it's not worth Reviewing, anyways I would like to do that yes.

Yes. I'd have a bit of beef with how loose the legs are, and how minimal the posing is, but it's a good rendition of Rhinox, and it's a fun figure.
Though the juxtaposition of it with the kingdom made it all the sweeter.

Ima just say this the new kingdom line is ok but it’s trying to be new and refreshing and trying to fit in some old references
I just think it's strange that this figure fits the ethos of the Kingdom Line sooooooo much better, it's way more at home in kingdom than the actual kingdom Rhinox.
It's got the Accurate Robot mode, and Realistic Beast mode, just like the Rest of the entire line does.

Still waiting for a Rattrap to show up, and I've considered getting Studio Series Dino after him, I've heard good things about that figure, and I really like Dino as a character so... (Yeah I know the car mode isn't a real life Ferrari, but at least it's accurate to the DOTM game)

It took me an embarrassing amount of time to figure out that Dino wasn't short for Dinobot, and I was confused as to what you meant by Studio Series.
Yeah that's so stupid. Have you seen how you can actually intentionally break the fauxforming part off, and it actually looks better.

No actually. At least it's optional, right? I did know that you can make a ger-walk mode out of the Jet mode though, and that reminded me of my Ger-Walk mode of Siege Starscream, who I called Sterskrem

There is actually not just hope that another one will come sooner but a guarantee, Dataminers have already got Product listings for the Rise of the Beasts toyline, and there will be a Rhinox in wave 2.
Now I'm wondering what the MP Rhinox will look like. Hopes to him and Waspinator.
I don't know if we are going to see one of those for a while, and I kind of hope we don't till Takara ends this whole Faxuforming craze, though to be fair the BW stuff has been the good stuff, so maybe it will be fine no matter what.

From what I've seen so far it looks fine.
I feel the kingdom version would’ve benefited if the rhino skin was a rubbery plastic similar to kingdom Megatron. Not only would it make the texturing feel better, but it would make the legs transform easier since you kinda have to force things
Maybe, but I think the texture is the least of this things problems, and soft plastic during that transformation might damage.

They should've re-released this figure for the kingdom toyline just give the hands wrist articulations make his robot mode feets the same height as the rhino legs so it can reach to the ground so it won't have problems with standing give him tight and nice joints and repaint it for the rhino mode and robot mode (maybe) because it could've been better than what we got instead
I completely agree, maybe also give his feet some flip out heels, and the whole thing would be great.

Good thing I have the T30 Waspinator if that is the case but I don’t have the T30 Rhinox sadly and probably ever will do to the cost it is going for these days.
The Rise of the Beasts figure might save us from the Kingdom... Hopefully at least.

Never!!! The new Waspinator is shit. T30 Waspinator is superior Kingdom Waspinator inferior. Also when we get the new Rhinox Rise of the Beasts Transformers figure in the future next year it will be good or not depending on the CGI model they use for him.

really wish i had have gotten him when i had the chance. Before we saw either of their new figures i had the choice between this and the old waspinator, I chose wrong i guess cause i actually like the new waspinator.
What's weird to me is everyone seems to hate the New Waspinator for some reason. I think it looks good.

I know that the Thrilling 30 Rhinox is the one that is supposed to be more accurate, But I still find myself liking the Kingdom one's looks more, but in a weird way.
I'd say the kingdom is SUPPOSED to be more accurate but if you prefer the look of the Kingdom there is nothing wrong with that. Taste is Subjective.

😩god i wish someone would make an upgrade kit for bigger much better guns,a more show accurate head, and gap fillers. Yeah it won't fix the other problems the kingdom figure has but i think imo that it would make the kingdom figure much more pleasing to the eye
