Thanks for the questions, These brushes are already built to carry a considerable amount of current, as long as there is pressure from the springs against the wires, there should be no issues with the heater or the temperature sensor. I keep my printer in an enclosure and I have not had any issues with the wires oxidizing. My first brushed set up was on their over a year and I did not have any issues.
Exposed wires could definitely cause an issue, thanks for pointing that out! This video is intended to give a quick overview of the design and installation. It is likely that some modifications may need to be made to fit your particular set up. I did end up screwing on a plastic cover after I posted this video, and I also keep this printer in an enclosure.

Any issues with resistance in the brush contacts? What about the copper wires oxidizing?

Good idea, but exposed wires down there is just asking for trouble - needs a casing to cover things up and it'll be fine.
