Fun Fact: Apparently when Taki and Mitsuha actually encounter each other in their adulthoods, at the very end scene of 'Your Name' at the stairway. That scene of them meeting up actually happened after that fact Tokyo flooded for 3 years straight and when Hina and Hodako meet up at the very end. So when yall saw Taki and Mitsuha in the movie, they still were looking for each other while doing their day-to-day jobs!! 👍🏽😭
Cap. Movie is a parallel universe, they were just Easter eggs and in no way connected. Pretty sure the director even confirmed this cause he said the timelines of the two movies didn’t add up when put together.

Ending scene of your name took place in 2022 where it was bright and sunny. The only canon cameo in any of the movies is the teacher from garden of words being mitsuhas teacher.
I heard about that too but I also heard that Taki and Mitsuha were already together at that point because the grandma was wearing Mitsuha’s hair band as a bracelet when she was taking to Hodako at the end. I don’t know which one was confirmed though
no i watched a breakdown video where its clear that this word is an alternate world not the same orld as your name yes Mitsuha and Taki are there but the city ll remain flooded for too much long and in your name the city s not flooded at all
I think she’d be more than happy for Hodaka and Hina given her own story. Mitsuha faced Tiamat, Hina faced the Weather Dragons, and Taki and Hodaka both stood tall against fate to save the one they love. What better story could there be?
And since this movie is set 3 years before Mitsuha meeting Taki, and since it rained for 3 years straight before stopping, it's kind of interesting that the rain stopped when Mitsuha & Taki finally met. Just coincidence I'm sure, but still cool.

I love both Your Name and Weathering With You equally but for different reasons. Your Name revolved around Mitsuha and Taki's love story. All the magical body-swapping time paradox phenomenon served to enhance that. The story blended all those elements so well. The time/braid sequence was absolutely stunning. Weathering With You felt more magical and mystical to me. The idea of the sky being an entire world that people don't know about. And the Weather Maiden. And all that is complimented by the personal struggles of the characters. Not much about their love story. My favorite character in here is easily Keisuke. His struggles as a father. How he saw himself in Hodaka when he said he just wanted to see Hina. I could imagine Keisuke remembering his wife and thinking that this kid at least had a chance to see his loved one again. And the falling from the sky sequence gave me goosebumps. If Your Name required Taki to save the rest to save her, Weathering With You required Hodaka to choose between her and the rest. There's contrast more than comparison. And I love both.

When I first watched the movie, it was really beautiful and moving. I think there's still a lot of good moments and Shinkai films are always gorgeous, but I think there's definitely story points that felt off to me, but still glad you both enjoyed it!

I love Weathering with You. Watching it in theaters was amazing. Even though "Your Name" is likely a better movie, I can't help but get sucked into the sheer relatableness of the characters in Weathering with You. The message about the environment and how Humanity as a species have to accept the consequences of our actions and live with this changing world is so impactful! Easily one of my favorite films.
Did you notice at near the end of Your Name it started raining? There are times when it stops raining for a bit and when Taki met Mitsuha at end of Your Name there was bits of rain/puddle on the floor
That scene when she prayed for sunshine on top of the skyscrapper, and then the fireworks...it's one of the best scene i've seen in any movie. animation or live.
Idk if anyone already pointed it out but I'm pretty sure Hodaka was getting abused at home. The hints are there from the first time we see him with bandages all over, preferring to sleep on the street, reacting with horror anytime someone suggests he go back home. Whenever an adult hits him in the face, he goes kind of feral and those are the only times he goes for the gun I'm pretty sure.
It was theorized that this movie was made to be a anti-thesis to Your Name (where love fixed everything) and this movie says that love can also destroy everything in equal measures. It's also theorized that this is an alternate world where Taki and Mitsuha never had their happy ending (you know, when they met at the stairs) in exhange for getting Hodaka and Hina's happy ending instead. (Tokyo was flooded and the trains where Taki and Mitsuha happened to see each other were not functional, so they wont even have the chance to meet).

I agree with you guys, Your Name is far superior to this movie in my opinion. This movie felt too Romeo and Juliet for me. Young teens chose to be together despite the consequences of their choices ruining the lives of others around them. The art style and music are the best qualities of this movie but they can’t save the story as a whole. I would have liked to see them defy the weather girl fate and break the cycle of human sacrifices somehow without causing millions of others to suffer losing houses and communities to flooding lol.
I had the BluRay sitting on a stack for a few months now, but only just watched it today because I wanted to see it before I watched your reactions. I totally missed noticing the Taki and Mitsuha cameos though Very surreal too, it's been raining all day here today and when I got to the scene where the big storm hit, it started to snow here as well. I've been a pretty big fan of Shinkai's works so buying the movie was a no brainer, but it wasn't what I expected. The trailer was edited in a manner that it implied more action, ie the authorities were hunting Hina because of her abilities. Very misleading but at the same time it made watching the movie to be more of a surprise.
There is a serious which i want you guys to react. My Indian friend recommended me this and its soo good. Name- Mirzapur. Its available in Amazon Prime.
I like it better than Your Name. It has similarities in that it’s a romance with some spirituality and a big natural disaster, but it’s difference in that it’s more about “fringe” characters, like people in more desperate or precarious situations and living less “respectable” lives. I also find that it’s more ensemble-based rather than how Your Name is mainly all about the main two.
I enjoyed this film too, not just for the unique story and fun cameos, but also the soundtrack (by the same band Radwimps who did “Your Name” too). Their music video for this film’s theme song, “Is There Still Anything I Can Do For You?) is a wistful, beautifully timed, seemingly one take piece that featured the changes in weather too. If Your name is 10/10, at least for me, Weathering with you is like 9/10 or more like 8/10. It's same director, same story telling, same music, same animation, is literally just more of Your name and Mitshuha and Taki's cameos are just cherry on the top for me. If you like Your name, you will like Weathering with you, it's just not as powerful. Not on emotions, nor comedy, but it's still good and will help you to fill the void after watching Your name.
I don't find the ending of this movie as controversial as others do. Hina was worth it. Nobody needs Tokyo anyway. I'd drown half this planet to save that precious child
@@gopikrishnang4871 it’s really good. It’s dark fantasy. It’s based off of a video game series of a bloodline of warriors who are destined to fight Dracula and vampires forever. There’s a lot of magic and incredible action sequences in it. It’s on Netflix.

So if the chosen one has limited amount of use of her powers. Then she will be taken and the weather will be back to normal. I wonder if there is a way to sacrifice her faster. Maybe kill her. Also "whoever uses too much weather power gets spirited away.". I know it's not connected to the movie Spirited Away, but was there any reason why the girl and her family got Spirited away? Maybe she has some sort of power or I'm just dumb.
In Spirited Away, remember it’s written as a classic parable with a message and everything. There’s no point in fleshing out “lore” like the little girl having powers and whatnot. She got spirited away because she got spirited away, and because she had to learn the lessons of the story.

It has similarities in that it’s a romance with some spirituality and a big natural disaster, but it’s difference in that it’s more about “fringe” characters, like people in more desperate or precarious situations and living less “respectable” lives. I also find that it’s more ensemble-based rather than how Your Name is mainly all about the main two.

I enjoyed this film too, not just for the unique story and fun cameos, but also the soundtrack (by the same band Radwimps who did “Your Name” too). Their music video for this film’s theme song, “Is There Still Anything I Can Do For You?) is a wistful, beautifully timed, seemingly one take piece that featured the changes in weather too.

If Your name is 10/10, at least for me, Weathering with you is like 9/10 or more like 8/10. It's same director, same story telling, same music, same animation, is literally just more of Your name and Mitshuha and Taki's cameos are just cherry on the top for me. If you like Your name, you will like Weathering with you, it's just not as powerful. Not on emotions, nor comedy, but it's still good and will help you to fill the void after watching Your name.

@@gopikrishnang4871 it’s really good. It’s dark fantasy. It’s based off of a video game series of a bloodline of warriors who are destined to fight Dracula and vampires forever. There’s a lot of magic and incredible action sequences in it. It’s on Netflix.

In Spirited Away, remember it’s written as a classic parable with a message and everything. There’s no point in fleshing out “lore” like the little girl having powers and whatnot. She got spirited away because she got spirited away, and because she had to learn the lessons of the story.
