Hello Ellen, ever since I started watching your videos I have found the inspiration I thought I had lost. I have been making soaps for over 30 years mostly for all my family, giving it away or once in a while selling in craft shows. In the last two years I felt I had lost my enthusiasm for it, sadly I still had a lot of ingredients and supplies but no drive to use them. I started watching your videos and I felt like starting again, started enjoying it and trying new recipes. Thank you so much for your kindness and your enthusiasm that seems contagious. I appreciate the recipes and knowledge you share with all of us. Thank you Ellen you are the best!!

More ‘silk’ that is vegan friendly are the fluffy seed puffs of dandelion, salsify, milkweed and cattail silk. I’ve only used the dandelion (LOVELY slip to bar) but have salsify waiting its turn and am planning on gathering milkweed soon. Anyhoo… Thanks for posting today. Love your soaps, videos, methods and friendly voice. Have a lovely weekend, Ellen.
The reason they kill the silk worms before they are able to hatch is that they are an extremely invasive insect! I know it seems cruel to kill them and take their silk, but they would be killed anyway!
These are super duper spalicious. Absolutely luxurious and bet they lather up beautifully. Great to hear they are good to use on your face as well. Thank you so much as always Ellen. xx
I use the wider sunflower mold and pour off just a little batter and color with dark brown oxide to pour in the centers to have the seedy centers last much longer. 💕
Beautiful soap! 😍 Can I share something? It is really isn't good to use mineral water to make soap. Minerals not only cause a lot of soap scum - they can also be the direct cause of rancidity, aka DOS. Since tap water often contains a fair amount of minerals, that's why it isn't recommended, either. You can use a chelator in the soap to help prevent the scum and the DOS, but it's best just to avoid introducing them to your soap in the first place. Of course, if you are using the soap in hard water, you can't completely avoid contact with minerals. That's why I add a chelator to all my soaps, since I never know whether the person using them may have hard water. HTH!
I have REALLY hard water where I live and don’t use a chelator. I just use distilled water to make it and haven’t had issues. But I completely understand why it makes people more comfortable to use one. 😊

When using a mold like that, how do you measure to determine how much soap to make? Thanks for the great video ❤
When I'm not sure, I'll put the mold on my scale then fill one with water for a good approximation of the amount needed.

I've found that if you don't put enough salt, it can sweat. If you "overload" the soap with salt, it's very dry.

For salt soaps, 50% or greater is a good volume for salt... There are many articles on how much salt to add.
