    i do have a drawing setup like boro's but the tablet and keyboard are sitting on my lap which is a way more comfortanle position generally, i can draw like that for literally 5hrs straight, the keyboard and tablet are on a wooden plank, and that plank is on my lap, i have a crate to elevate my legs a bit, and i dont have any kind of arm sholder or back pain

    • @AdamDuffArt
      @AdamDuffArt  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have in the past for many years but I’ve adapted to the current type of setup

    • @Sanakudou

      I definitely found that to be the best position to draw all day without injury/nerve irritation, I need to lean just a bit backwards tho and most desk chairs go to tip, so finding the perfect chair and footrest is an ongoing quest. 😅
      I started drawing in this position when I was sick and bedbound for a few weeks and I had a big wedge pillow to sit up and lean back against on my bed, I put my knees up and rested my iPad against my lap. I kept using my bed to draw instead of my desk because of the comfort/endurance that position provides.
      Arm and wrist position is really important, there’s definitely dangers in drawing on a small screen if your weight is on the outside of your hand and your wrist is unnaturally bent inwards. The reason big screen drawing tablets are worth the money is being able to rest your arm and avoid nerve or tendon injuries, something I unfortunately have experience with.
      The stand in this video intrigues me because the height could help keep the wrist from being too bent even when rested on the screen but it’s impossible to know without trying it in person!

    Hey Adam, this looks like a really interesting product and I'm definitely intrigued, my one question though: does drawing with your arm floating like that not cause you to fatigue quickly? I feel like it could cause some muscle ache over a long work day or even pain around the shoulder blade since you don't really have anything to lean on other than the iPad itself, which is pretty small. No surrounding desk or large cintiq screen to rest your forearm on.

    • @AdamDuffArt
      @AdamDuffArt  3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Not at all - I’ve been drawing like that for over 15 years on my cintiq - zero fatigue - but your mileage might vary of course
      And do note that I lower my arm often - it’s not raised 100% of the time - as well, you can easily support your arm on your iPad

    • @soshy.illustration9454
      @soshy.illustration9454 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yeah same question popped into my head. I know your supposed to draw using your whole arm and not just your wrist but - for people who do draw using the movement of their wrist mainly and resting their arm I could imagine it being an issue. But might be worth trying maybe and judging then. Good video Adam, as always!

    Adam, do you think the ipad pro is going to be the industry main drawing tablet?

    • @AdamDuffArt
      @AdamDuffArt  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No, I don’t, but I’m sure there are many artists that would argue that fact. However - with artists working from home more nowadays, I know several pros that work exclusively on the iPad - I personally don’t think I could pull that off, but I LOVE my iPad for concepts and roughs - the polished pro stuff goes on my PC every time though. Maybe a bigger iPad in the future could solve that - for now, not quite.

    Regarding ergonomics there is a piece of hardware that solved a LOT of problems for me. The Tartarus Pro, a programmable one-hand keyboard. Bear in mind is only for left-hand use, meaning that you can press the button with only your left hand. For me it's a game changer because of two reasons:
    1)It's small, really small. So it can fit even over your leg. Meaning that you can put it whenever you want.
    2)Holy molly having 32 buttons for shortcuts without moving your hand is a game changer.

    • @AdamDuffArt
      @AdamDuffArt  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you’re just looking for the stand itself (as in - elevated stand), Daily Tekk just posted a prototype stand that looks really elegant and minimalist. Don’t know if it would support an artist, but for a clean looking setup - this could be a nice one

    I ordered this upon watching your review. Excellent review video and much appreciated. I just received the stand and love it. One thing that just occurred to me though is that this beautiful stand becomes obsolete when the iPad Pro external design potentially changes in future. I wonder if Kensington considered upgrade option with swappable top sections. Else we will be buying a 400 stand every time we upgrade our iPad.

  • @bjrnadriansen348
    @bjrnadriansen348 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I really wish there was a budget option where it’s just the magnetic stand without all the bells and whistles. It’s so hard to find a stand that both elevates the iPad and provides a sturdy drawing experience (plus rotating is a nice option).
    I feel like most elevated stands are super wobbly, but if you go for sturdy you get something like the draftable which is awesome but craning my neck all day is just a no go.
    This seems like a great middle road but as someone who doesn’t need all the extra functionality the price is simply too steep.

    • @markez4730
      @markez4730 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@GloomySundae it’s funny cause I have the Wacom flex arm, but this is just for a tiny iPad. The Wacom Flex arm is built like a tank and holds my Cintiq Pro 24 in place like it’s nothing. This is just an iPad stand with cool features I guess.

    • @AdamDuffArt

    • @Trid3nt861
      @Trid3nt861 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have a Ergotron HX arm with the Wacom metal plate vesa adapter which is more sturdier than the flex arm for my 24 pro Cintiq (holds up to 40/50 lb displays), though you can check for the studio dock thing on ebay at times for cheaper if youre patient.

    • @markez4730
      @markez4730 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Trid3nt861 I think the Wacom Flex arm is pretty much the Ergotron HX, judging just by the visual design. Ergotron works with Wacom to make the flex arm.

    *Not compatible with the 2021 iPad Pro 12.9". (directly from kensington site.)I think this refers to the idea that everything works on the doc as if the port on the ipad was usb c and not thunderbolt 4, so maybe consumers may want to hold off until a doc supports tb4? dock otherwise looked like an amazing idea…

    I bought this1 year ago on heels of your review. 1 year later. Quality issues abound. Three different units as replacements the quality of the plastic plate holding the iPad is poor. Loose at joint so rotating between landscape and portrait there is too much play. Also the slot stretches over time and the iPad slips out if contact with ,agent is not perfect.
    I see they are selling at crazy low prices now. I paid 399 at launch and regret it.
