@@Softsoul. I'm so glad that I learned to do box braids from teen years in the 90s. That probably saved my edges. I'm not fast and i don't part as straight but any tight style I can take down and put back in looser! I remember taking down a style when I was 8 or 9...my family was upset..after they paid good money... and i sat down and undid the cornrow style. I don't get cornrow extensions anymore. I will clip in a weave or a wig. No more braid downs.

My mom tries to convince me to do wash and go’s. I told her if I wear my hair loose, I’ll have to braid it up after a full day and I’ll be too lazy to and wear my hair loose for a week. My hair breaks so much when I wear it loose too often. I just keep them in mini braids so it’s less manipulation and stress on my ends.
Afro’s and twist outs are cute, but with my hair’s short length and time, it’s just easier styling my hair in mini twist and going my way. I think they’re cute anyway and I care more about the health of my hair than trying to keep up with all the trends and beauty standards. It still looks presentable.

My hair is a fine 4A, and coily like the girl from the show "blackish". I used to wear a low ponytail for years. Now I wear silk presses, and keep it on low heat with a heat protectant. I cut my hair into a neck length blunt bob. I was noticing major hair loss and thinning when I was using gels and leave in conditioners for years to keep my hair in its place, and "moisturised". I was literally combing my wet hair out to put it into a low ponytail almost daily. This was ripping my hair out. Now my silk presses last for over a week, and is low maintenance. I massage my scalp with a light oil when I wrap my silk press at night. Thanks for the tips 🌺❤️

I air dry my hair...but my hair dries in an hour and I only use leave-in conditioner..not gel!! This is because my scalp doesn't like styling products and my trichologist told me to lay off the styling products and focus on keeping the moisture in my hair instead.

I use a Leave-In Styler (Camille Rose Aloe Butter Gel) and Wetline Xtreme Gel because I have a mixed coarse Coily type 4 and I live in a highly hot and humid industrial city so, by day 2, the crunch in the gel is already gone since the humidity breaks it down but my definition lasts between 5-7 days.

I think the solution is to use human hair when doing styles like braids, not doing a tight super sleek ponytail or just not wearing these styles too regularly.
I guess the best hairstyle to wear would ideally just be our natural hair with little manipulation. In reality our hair type just takes so much energy and time to maintain, and it does sometimes feel like the hairstyles we can do with it is limited without implementing those 'damaging' styles like braids, ponytails, buns etc... 😭

@@SOMETHINGTOSLOW it’s exactly this it’s to have low manipulation styles like twist, corn rows, different variations of that.
I find those are what the waist length natural hair women are doing.

I worry for the future of a lot of naturals’ hair health because they don’t care about the actual science of hair or listening to certain professionals who actually took the time to study and learn about these things.
