How Maggie Meister Replied When Mother Miriam Invited her to Become a Benedictine Nun

  • For four years, Maggie Meister lived in Naples, Italy with her husband and two sons. Her beading studio overlooked Mount Vesuvius on one side, and the Mediterranean Sea on the other. When she wasn't beading, she was taking her kids around Italy, visiting museums and other sites.
    One of her most favorite places was the Benedictine Abbey of San Vicenzo al Volturno, a two hour drive north of Naples. She and her sons helped the nuns who ran the place, sometimes picking olives, other times, doing chores. Maggie visited so often that she became very close with the nuns. So close, in fact, that one day, she made a surprising confession when Mother Miriam invited her to become a nun. In this brief clip, Maggie reveals her impromptu response. (Hint: it involves beaded earrings.)
