I have scheduled for a Radical Nephrectomy tomorrow for a T1a endophytic kidney mass about 3.4 x 3.0 x.27 cm in size and I'm nervous. It will be hand assisted, not robotic. I'm 53 and the other kidney is fine. I had a stone in the same kidney 2 years ago, no mass detected during the CT or cystoscopy, and this was detected recently by some occasional hematuria. I'd like a partial nephrectomy, but it seems all roads point to full removal. With monitoring, the mass is probably only going to grow bigger and turn malignant eventually or at the very least is hematuria from time to time. I hear the recovery time for a partial is longer and possibly more risky. Nobody has suggested needle ablation before. Should I chicken out and get a second opinion. I am 60 miles south of Chicago, so I have access to University of Chicago or Northwestern Memorial if I should seek a second opinion.

This video is very helpful for me. I have two small renal cysts in my left kidney. Thank you!

How long does the partial nephrectomy procedure usually take ?

I'm being told my full nephrectomy will be 2-4 hours. I guess it comes down to the time it takes to reconstruct the remaining tissue after removal, location of the mass, if the procedure is laparoscopic, and more.
