A stylish "one-off" looking luggage rack for the rear trunk of your Kawasaki Voyager 1700 ABS.

  • Since Kawasaki stopped, for some unknown reason, the production of their OEM luggage rack for the Voyager 1700 ABS, I have spent countless hours reviewing, measuring, and trying to figure out which or what kind of luggage rack I could add to not only enhance the looks of rear trunk lid, but also give me the versatility I needed to add light weight bulky items for a road trip.
I came across this rack but of course it didn't fit the curvature of my trunk lid and figuring out a mounting system that did not look like some aftermarket add-on was a real challenge. This rack came in chrome or black and I decided on the chrome so it would flow with the chrome already install on the bike. It may not be for everyone but I am happy with the way it came out, right down to the mounting hardware I was able to figure out which enabled me to perfectly match the curvatures needed.
It took me a while but hope fully this video will make things a lot easier for you to use to install yours. The mounting system I cam up with can probably be used for other racks out there not made for the Voyagers.
Let me know what you think about the selection and install, here are the links for most of the items used since there were a few washers I already had in stock in my parts bins.
Luggage Rack: CAUTION - They are only showing the black version but you can hunt around on finding the Chrome Version if you'd like.

I love my voyager but it is a shame that kawasaki has completely abandoned this bike. Its been out for 14 years and aside from KAMS and KACT, theve done zero to the bike other than annual paint changes. Glad to see that there are people willing to do work themselves and share with the community so we can keep making our Voyagers better!

Nice job on the rack. Looks just great. Getting the itch to get the bike out, . 🇨🇦. It's supposed to rain tomorrow over here. I take the battery and seats in in the winter.I like that antenna you installed. Take Care and Be Safe.

Thanks Frank, I appreciate your comments. I am getting the itch to ride too, I just have to finish healing up first, ha ha ha.
I know that down time for the winter is no fun and I can only hope my videos make up for some of it. Thanks again, Frank.

Hey, there Tank. I too have a 2023 voyager. Been watching your vids on your upgrades. Really like your tank rack, however, you do not mention the namebrand or price.

I usually post all the items I purchased for the "task" on hand in the description of the video. Please note, Amazon doesn't always keep up with their stocks so sometimes color choices are limited. I was just lucky at the time to find this chrome rack but there are several you can find on Amazon like this one.

Ya that rack is nice. I have a 2022, have had no problems yet. Great bike. Did you put a drink holder on yours yet?

@@frankwebster8365 No, but if I have a need for one I'll install it and make a post. Even during my "down time" I enjoy going out and just looking at this work of art. I'm glad Kawasaki still makes this bike, there will be parts available when needed for years and it's a true testament for the longevity and reliability of these bikes.

I find after owning one of these bikes for a couple years now I would like to have seen them, put a driveshaft and reverse and a outside temperature gauge don’t need all that electronics on it

Definitely room for improvement on a bike they will be making for years to come but at a price where adding a few "niceties" come in handy without dropping another 15 to 20 thousand more for a touring bike, I just added a few smaller things I really like and this Voyager will keep me smiling for years to come.

A driveshaft would drive the cost up for sure.

I have one, and you're right, a driveshaft would be nice. It would make it so smooth shifting.

@@frankwebster8365 My shifting on my 2023 Voyager feels just as smooth as my Honda Goldwing with a driveshaft. I haven't noticed any difference so long as your in the right gear.

Hey Tank, I also have a 23 Voyager and am thankful for your videos. I have one off topic question. What antenna do you have? I got home one evening, got my bag out of the trunk and noticed my antenna was gone. Looked up a new one and saw they were $140. No way...... So I am looking for an aftermarket one. Any suggestions? Thanks, I appreciate it.

I just looked on Amazon for a universal fit stubby antenna. The one I actually purchased isn't available for some reason but I am sure you can find one. Take a look at this one and see it it fits your needs.

Looks factory-installed, great job. I must say, you are a brave soul, don't think I could put a drill on my bike lol😁. I was wondering if you came up with a fix for the chrome trim that rattles atop the gas tank? That rattle is so annoying and I'm sure Kawasaki knows all about it.

    • @tanktankerson1042
      @tanktankerson1042  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

I don't have a rattle at all so I'm afraid I can be no help on that. I did, however, have a low speed rattle off the two throttle cables because they were so loose. I added a couple rubber o-rings there and no more rattle.
Drilling into a new bike is daunting for sure but I knew this is something I really wanted to do for future use. Measure 100 times and drill once 🙂
Thank you for the awesome comments Bud.

@@tanktankerson1042 Thanks, you have been my go-to guy for my Voyager needs. The chrome tank trim has been a common complaint, and I'm surprised you haven't encountered it. However, if you happen to come across this issue, I look forward to your solution.

I've never taken it off, sometimes that can cause an issue. I ran into this years ago once I removed the chrome on the tank of my VTX 1300S, I fought with that darn vibration for months before I was able to figure something out. If I do encounter it, I will post a response and possible solution for you.
