I take it back; its only funky sounding at the beginning. But overall, this song is great. In fact, I find myself dancing to this everytime I hear it. And its to my memory that this was played in the sequence where the pilots preparing for their next mission.
@vfIskullangel Agreed! There even times I ask myself, "When it's the last time an action/Sci-Fi Anime used upmusic like this?" Anyway, although I never watched "Area 88" (and I always wanted to see it), thinking of this song gives me the feel of the Anime being to Japan, what "Top Gun" is to North America.
songs like these have this kind of feeling its played just the right speed and its like a eargasm but sometimes (espacially when you listen to it too much) it becomes uncomfortable slow only for after a while of not listening to the song to be back on that nice speed
there already is an englishtranslation of the sho but it's a dub... in other word the dialouge is written int bottom of the screen. if thats what you asking.
The original OVA is much better than the later series. The OVA feels reals. Its sometimes like watching a live action movie about men at war. The series on the other hand has the feel of a high school drama with a war story stretched over it. This is a pattern I have seen in most anime. In the last few decades, especially after 2000, anime has become massively infantilized. Its like it doesnt take itself seriously. Like it tries to tell a serious story and cant help but start laughing at its own pretentiousness. My personal interpretation is that the Japanese have lived in peace and wealth for too long. The men who made anime in the 70s and 80s had grown up in post war japan and were serious people living in a society scarred by many horrors but now developing upwards. There was no internet. People lived in the real world. It was an interesting and dynamic world. By contrast modern Japanese dont even remember what war or poverty is. Neither do they remember what its like to actually live in the real world as part of a community. All they know is the boring everyday life of a slowly decaying society past its peak and the screen they are glued on for entertainment. What does a japanese guy know of war? Its something he sees on the news happening in distant lands. Video games and silly disagreements over coolness or some tech gadget is what he knows from real life. That and the soul crushing work in corporations. High school fights and romance are more real to him than a tale about mercenaries. And thats what all modern anime is. High school kids having imaginary adventures before the time comes to enter the workforce.
"You are a foreign legion that is well paid by our country. That is all you are! Or are you forgetting?!" "We will depart in two hours. If you're interested, speak now. Compensation will be doubled. $20,000!"
Truth is they use orchestra music all the time. They aught to be more open-minded and try other styles for crying out loud! And 80s style is a good example of some of them!
