De mooiste interpretatie die ik ik ooit heb gehoord van dit werk; met prachtige registratie (inclusief 32' pedaal prestant), tempo, orgel en vooral zeggingskracht! Bravo 10x!
Hier hoort men intensief orgelspel van de generatie Piet Kee, Van Beek.Zij hebben helaas het podium verlaten, maar hun spel is actueel en voorbeeldig tot op de dag van vandaag. Wereldwijd hebben zij vele bekende organisten opgeleid en waren zijn een inspiratiebron nog niet eens in de eerste plaats als meesterorganist, maar vooral als ware muzikanten. Onder hun handen kreeg het orgel en het orgelspel een zeggingskracht en intensiteit, die je niet precies kon verwoorden, maar alleen dankbaar ontvangen.
I had the pleasure of hearing Mr Van Beek play this work on this organ many years ago. It was then and is now one of the most emotional organ performances of my life. The registration is superb, and the lovely tremulant draws out the pathos of the work. It's truly one of the great works of the organ literature, and this is one of the great organs of the world.
I had the same experience. It was in summer of 1985. A group of organ enthusiasts went to England and Holland. The tour guide was an American of Dutch descent. Mr Van Beek's performance was, also for me, one of the most emotional organ performances of my life.

He was an organ enthusiast who had been the music critic of the Philadelphia Inquirer. I also recall a mother and daughter named Hemingway who were cousins of the famous author.

So in etwa muss der 15-jährige Johann Sebastian Bach das als Freischüler und Diskantist des Michaelisklosters Lüneburg das gehört haben, als Georg Boehm sein Werk auf der Hendrik Niehoffhauptorgel in Sankt Joannis vorgespìelt hat. (Adagio BWV 564?)
Waar taal tekort schiet, vult muziek het aan tot het oneindige. Alleen het orgel kan een toon eeuwig aanhouden, zei Widor al. Dit stuk hoort tot de basisbagage van ieder mens.
