I know there is a romanticism about having a multi-fuel burning stove on a narrowboat and is often the choice of new live aboarders but these diesel stoves are superiour in just about every way. None of the mess or filthy dust you get from wood/coal. Not having to empty it every day. Way better temperature control. None of that juggling of too hot too cold. No time wasted lighting it or worrying about it going out. Keeping it fueled is less hassle. Maintenance is much easier. It's just super convenient. For me, convenience wins every time. Nice job James I'm sure you are going to love it. A stove like this would be my choice also.
The thing I liked about the install is their professional approach to ensure the job is neat and explaining the operation of the stove. Seems nothing was a problem for them. Looks good
I remember being on danish fishing boats in the mid to late 70s and they had these stoves back then…they are just indestructible and reliable in all weather, we use to have a big kettle on the go constantly so we could have a cuppa as and when….😊😊😊
Wow! Well filmed, Even I understood some of it and it looks truly fab, who would have thought a stove installation could be so interesting lol?! It's really coming on now - well done James x
Congratulations James!! 🎉 It is a beauty! I am very happy for you. The men that installed it were so gracious to allow themselves to be filmed and give commentary to what they were doing. I know you are looking forward to the first lighting, it will be lovely to see your expression. 😊🤗 Kathy
What’s the best thing to watch in the middle of the night after waking up from a bad dream? The total warmth of experts doing an amazing precision install 😊 Looking forward to your review of the actual warmth, James! A game-changer in more ways than one. This would absolutely be my choice if I had a boat. Shame I don’t, I can’t use the discount offer… 😩😄
Absolutely wonderful. So glad you will have heat and that stove is beautiful. Enjoyed watching the installation as well. The boat is really coming together and your design ideas while may be a challange totally work. Stay safe and thanks for sharing.
Thanks for this vlog, James. We had already made our mind up to change to a diesel stove but your discount definitely made it up. Will buy you a couple of coffees as a thank you ( can't afford much we are retired).
You won’t regret it. I’m todays video of them commissioning the stove I’ll explain what the offer is - its a good one. Thanks ever so much - I really appreciate it
Ah James! That's looking absolutely fabulous 👌. No wonder you're so delighted. We're just as delighted for you!😊. Can't wait to see it lit on Saturday, Bet you can't either 😊. Thanks for showing everyone. Keep safe, warm and well.
I've lived with a log burner for the last twenty years or so and wouldn't change it, but I see the appeal of one of these diesel stoves for sure and it's very smart I must say. In an ideal world you'd have one of each I suppose. Between watching your renovations and now the installer chaps, I have learned what brand of power tools to buy from now on, they should make you a brand ambassador in my opinion. Nice one mate.
This thing is so cool. Great decision going this route. Looks good, much smaller foot print (device, fuel storage, and cleaning supplies), and more efficient! Well done
I love the flue coming out the back - it reminds me of the side pipes that come out of an AC Cobra . I want one Installed on my Narrowboat . I am casting envious eyes .... I want one Installed .
Hi James it is nice to see that you are not cutting corners .when fitting out what basically is your home.. Your approach to tasks is an inspiration for people who are thinking about refurbishing a boat... There is one thing that everyone should should take note of is your commitment to safety first. With everything that you do. People who cut corners when refurbishing boats pay a high price in the long run. As many have found out to their cost... Anyway stay safe and well keep up the excellent work...mate.
Thats a beautiful install James, the view of it from all the angles are spot on. I really like the line of the flue against the window frame which would look really annoying if it was wrong, but thats dead-on. Very impressive and a real addition to the boat.
Great to see some tradesmen who know what they're doing on your channel 😉. Seriously though, their very professional job shows off your own handiwork very nicely indeed.
You will be "Toasty Warm"! A friend has one of these on his 60' share boat, with 2 inches of snow on the roof setting 1 (probably 2 on your newer controller) was more than enough. Enjoy your new stove - you will love it!
Fantastic looking Stove James. Hopefully you'll show it to me when I drop by. By the way, your filming is getting better and better, and I love your choice of music in some of your video's.
How exciting. Its great that you’ll now be all toasty and warm as you work. I’m so glad that you’re so pleased with your heater. I think that it looks really snazzy, very modern. I’m looking forward to hearing from you about its performance, and how much heat it throws out. Thanks for sharing. Take care and keep yourself safe and warm. 🙂🐿🌈❤️ P.s - I wonder if wi th that new phone feature being advised, if you would be able to simply remove any copyrighted music, without removing any of the other sounds.. hmmm. Could make it much easier for editing videos.
Hi James, great video, very informative and interesting, the stove looks fab👌. I'm guessing that you did a lot of research into the pros and cons of stoves... Have you chosen diesel over multi fuel because of the lowering running costs, or ease of use, or both. I'm wondering, because I don't have any experience of either, but as a rough guide, how much would it cost to run per hour/day. Cheers, all the best with your project 👍 kev
Glad you enjoyed it. There’s not much research to be done to realise that it’s much cheaper to run than coal. Free logs is the cheapest but not easy. This works out at 5lts per day in peak running which is around a fiver a day. If I was running coal that would be half a bag a day which is near £10 a day plus the other stuff which needs to be burnt. This burner also has a back boiler so I get far better economies than a multi fuel stove. That’s on paper - I haven’t got it up and running but should along those lines.
Looking good James.. surely one with a back boiler.. heats up all the spaces!! I suppose also that's down to the configuration of your design! how are you going to put heat in your bathroom and bedrooms?
@@TheNarrowboatThatJamesBuilt Would that very low setting be capable of heating the water in the calorifier during the summer months, when having a higher setting would be obviously undesirable throughout the rest of the boat?
It may have already been said !! James knows how he wants it to sit. Gentle diplomatic realigning. Love it. and the Stove.
Haha ! Yeah she sits perfectly now

I agree. The novelty of a log burner has worn off on me now - bring in the future
Do we know how well these work on "bio" diesels and other alternatives? Not that I'm planning anything; I'm just genuinely interested.
@@paulfryer5475 that’s a good question
I’ll endeavour to find out the answer
I like the ritual in preparing, the smell of the coal/ wood burner and the ambience..it wouldn’t be the same without it😃
@@peteturner4427 I also really like that ritual. I know what you mean. I like the smells and the visuals too.
I haven't even got a boat, but I was watching every detail. Even how to clean the filter.
Well then you’ll be on the edge of your seat for PT2.
Most impressive, James. And you looked so scholarly in your glasses. Glad you can be warm now, as we move into colder weather. Take care. Leigh

Today when Paul returns I’ll ask him to show the balance cut off for when these are used at sea!! Amazing
Good work as always 👍 but who is that well groomed chap that sounds like James 😂
Hi James looks great that mate. Nice looking stove. Nice to see professional tradesman that are clean and tidy and explain things properly.

Looking good James.. surely one with a back boiler.. heats up all the spaces!! I suppose also that's down to the configuration of your design! how are you going to put heat in your bathroom and bedrooms?

peach of a stove

Lovely looking thing, James. What's the heat output of that model?
All the best, mate.
Crack on!
It’s a 4.2KW output mate and is the one with back boiler feeding the rads and calorofier. If it heats as good as it looks then I’m onto a real winner
Can the Reflecks be run automatically from a timeswitch or programmer, or does it always require a manual start up?
It requires manual lighting however once she’s running, the burner can be turned right down to a trickle and the stove stays on throughout winter
