Hopefully just for a very short time period! Maybe you can come up sometime in January or February to see the snow monsters in Hachimantai or Moriyoshi?
It's beautiful how you transformed some bad news into an opportunity to create such a gorgeous video! I felt very sad for you when I heard the news I have to say and sad more generally too, as having watched all your videos and re-watched many featuring Mount Iwate when I was in need of a dose of beauty and peace, I've grown rather fond of the mountain despite never having visited. I certainly hope that the danger passes as soon as possible and that Mt. Iwate will soon be welcoming her devoted friends back onto her slopes sooner rather than later. In the meantime the videos you made on previous hikes will be there to enjoy.
As someone who lives in the Carolinas in the USA, I can share some of the sentiment. Helene blew a dam and roads washed out all across North Carolina, especially around the mountain city, and popular vacation destination, of Ashville. The nearby Lake Lure and surrounding areas are changed forever. I was hoping to get my elderly father, who has Parkinsons and is in declining health, up to Ashville one last time to see the works of a famous glass artist that he likes. Unfortunately, this is now impossible, and even going up into the foothills of the Blueridge mountains to see the fall colors, another of his favorites, is likely impossible for four years minimum, and we don't know how many he has left. It may take time, but Iwate will reopen, and when it does, we will all rejoice with you and be glad to be along for the ride. ❤
Oh I'm so sorry about everything in Ashville and around NC in generally. I heard a fair bit about that on the news. I can only imagine. So many lost their lives as well... I'm sorry for your losses there.
Hoping in the near future I can go on one of your tours! Thanks again telling me about the morioka festival that one time in May. I bought some sake and a sake set from your friend the next day
I'm really sorry to see how much this pending event affects and means to you. Hopefully, it will not be too much, and you will get to take people and yourself on a hike again. Keep safe 🙏. All the best from Scotland.
Mother Nature proves yet again how powerful she is, and there is life in everything ❤. I know it’s expected to be just releasing steam, however it will be exciting to see if anything has changed once it’s cleared to climb again. Thank as always for these awesome vids.
You can feel the love you have for Mt. Iwate in your words and knowledge. Thanks for bringing us so much beautiful content of this amazing region. I've been trying to get a hiking trip set up with you for years by my timing never works out. Hopefully the steam eruption happens soon and no one is harmed and you can get back to your hikes! Funny that the very activity that forms these beautiful volcanos for us to climb is also what prevents us from climbing them. If that isn't nature, I don't know what is. Stay safe out there!
I'm so glad that you've been able to film this beautiful mountain. You have so many good memories 😊. Bless the mountain, it will open its sacred gates again 🕊️🙏
Quinlan, just think of it as Mt Iwate is your favorite TV show that is going on summer hiatus. Look forward to whatever changes may occur in the terrain. All the best!
Such a shame man! I'm so sorry for the sad news. That must have been emotional. May you never loose the wonderful memories you managed to achieve there!! 💚
I'm so glad we found your channel! My wife and I moved to the Sanriku coast a couple months ago and we have been trying to find resources for exploring our area. We were just in Morioka on Sunday and were excited that we could actually see Mt. Iwate. It's been raining every time we've been before. Sad to hear we won't be able to hike it for a while. It looks beautiful!
I’m sorry about what’s happening. I really admire your passion and love for northern Japan and its natural features. I can totally relate as I feel that love and connection with Yamanashi. Thanks for capturing the vids so that the world will have them forever to see , in the event the structure of Mt. Iwate changes after the eruption.
I'm sorry to hear this, Quinlan, and I hope mount Iwate reopens soon. I love your videos and keep coming to them because of the calming and beautiful sights and sounds, and the humanistic perspective of your commentary. Perhaps this is an opportunity for you to make more videos in other places, until your favorite mountain is safe to hike again! Best wishes and take care! 🏔
Thanks! Yeah- I'm actually crazy busy with work for the next couple months, so might be less frequent videos for a while anyway... but a good chance to shake things up!
That is a real shame. Various trials I love have been closed over the years due to flooding, erosion or other dangers. I hope it reopens again soon and you find some alternative amazing spots in the meantime!
Sorry for that. Really love your videos of Iwate... BUUUUT: I also love all your other videos. So let's stay positive and I can't wait to see all the other gems you can take us to and maybe even you don't know yet. Let's go, new horizons are waiting!
it is so crazy to see that you are standing at a viewpoint where i was a few days ago xD. and 2 days ago i saw mount iwate with my own eyes and thougth "maybe the next time when i will come to japan, i will climb this mountain" and now it is closed... hopefully not for a long time, i really want to climb this scenic volcano. now I am back in switzerland and still dream of this unbelievable beautiful coastline that I've seen last week. it was even more stunning that I ever had could imagine.
oh gosh dang it :( I'm literally going to japan in less than a month for the first time ever and iwate prefecture is on my list! The mountain was not on my itinerary but it really sucks to see things hurting like that. I hope the situation stays safe, because there's a bunch of beautiful places to see that I am looking forward to.
Can you join the geology team (and keep hiking it that way)? 🤩 Are they embargoing drones as well? That'd be amazing if you could get any video from above of any steam etuptions. The video footage at the end was stunning, by the way, thank you!!
Ahahaha, well I'm certainly going to try to see what my options might be next year! The range on the drone wouldn't be enough to get you to the area that is at risk of eruption, unfortunately. And you'd have to be really lucky on the timing!! Everything is quiet now, but satellite footage shows some swelling there, apparently, which caused the closure.
I love all the videos you've made. This one is sad, yet exciting. I hope you can see it erupt from a distance that is safe enough. I realize you have a drone. As another commenter mentioned, it could create some new beautiful spots to visit and you will be there to show it to us. 🖖🙂
That's a shame, through your videos it has become a place I would love to visit. However think of it this way, if the mountain does erupt, you might have brand new views that never existed before when you're able to visit again :)
Ouch! Can't be helped I guess, but I'm sorry for your loss there. Hopefully it won't be years and years. This is a good opportunity to create 10+ videos from your second favorite mountain though :)
Still giving the video a like, however I dislike the potential eruption. What is your fallback mountain for now? The sanriku national park 7 day walk sounds fun. Looking forward to hearing more about it.
Ahaha, thanks, I do want people to like the video.. Akita Komagatake is my new go-to mountain! Trailhead isn't too far, and the landscape is also stunning. It is a lot easier than Mt. Iwate though, so I'm going to need to do a bit more to stay in shape. And yes! I'll share more about the 7-day tour in the Sanriku National Park soonish!
Around 6:12 you bring up a good point: are there particular hikes that suit casual hikers but still offer great sights/views? Maybe there's video potential there? I'm sorry about Mt. Iwate. You said everything is temporary ... but hopefully, the wait will be temporary, too.
Oh my, what startling news! It makes your drone montage all the more moving. Any predictions regarding how long this preventive closure may last? Are temblors expected to accompany eruption activity? Thank you for this update - I can only imagine how difficult it was for you to have to file this report with us.
I'm hoping that it's short, but last time they did this it lasted for 3 years (1998 - 2001). There generally are tremors associated with eruptions, but they didn't make a specific announcement about that.
I understand that the gas eruption might not be that transformative but, maybe after this is over, the volcano that you hiked so many times before and got to know so well will look slightly different. It will surprise you with something new after so many years and you will likely be one of the first and few people that get to see the new formations and also remember how it was before they were there. That's something to look ahead towards or at least to take away from the bitterness of the sad news.
I looked at on-line info. Alert Level 2 means hiking entry is "kisei" which I always thought meant "regulated" or "controlled". I've seen that word used for traffic regulation, for example. Not like Level 3, where entry is "kinshi", prohibited. So are people actually staying away? Is this one of these unspoken Japanese things where you're supposed to interpret this as a stay-out request? Like the "go-enryo" construction which means literally something like "have misgivings" about doing something but is in fact a firm request not to do something?
Sooooo, is this the only volcano that you’re making or are you continuing to make a video/visit other volcanoes in Japan? If so can you make a volcano video of mt. Asamayama or Hakone? Please 😊
I am hiking other volcanoes of course! Was just guiding on Akita Komagatake twice this week already! Hakone is a bit too far out of my region though. Bit hard for me to get there without a few-day trip.

this the precise volcano upon which a had buried one billion dollars worth of diamonds near the summit. i was going to go get them and split the money with whoever guided me. but now i wont be able to i guess. darn. i guess i'll wait. ..... (i'm joking)
Aw man, Mt. Iwate without Quinlan climbing on it just feels wrong😅
Hopefully just for a very short time period! Maybe you can come up sometime in January or February to see the snow monsters in Hachimantai or Moriyoshi?
The moment I heard it was closing, I literally said ow no what about Q 🥲
Your storytelling and dedication to your content is so inspiring and impressive man! Brilliant channel man!
Thanks so much! Really appreciate that!

Morioka was my favorite of my month long trip to japan!!! The view of mt. Iwate was so insane!!
It is a gorgeous view!

Oh! Yamanashi is gorgeous as well! Thanks for watching!
Yeah I've been worried about this after hearing about unrest at Mt Iwate. It's clearly a special place to you.
Hopefully it won't be closed for too long.
Beautiful views! Amazing how green Mt.Iwate is. Volcanoes in northern Kyushu are quite bare in comparison.
Yeah- just the summit area and the caldera are barren. Overall it's lush!
Wonderfully made Video. Sorry to hear you won't be Hiking mount Iwate for a while, hopefully it will not be for long.
Your love is truly appreciated! Thank you!
Thank you!
Thank you for all the stunning footage of Mt. Iwate over the past few years.
Thanks for watching!

This one isn't supposed to be a lava eruption, but if it were, that would be amazing to film, yeah!
I suppose better safe? Luckily for you, the area has other options. Thanks for sharing the past hikes - they’re beautiful.
Yes, there are other mountains!
That's a shame, through your videos it has become a place I would love to visit. However think of it this way, if the mountain does erupt, you might have brand new views that never existed before when you're able to visit again :)

Actually hey it's a vulcano, sometimes it need to let steam out. 😂😊😂
So Iwate seems to behave healthy, I like it.
Ahahaha, that's a positive spin.
Still giving the video a like, however I dislike the potential eruption.

The sanriku national park 7 day walk sounds fun. Looking forward to hearing more about it.

now that Mt Iwate is closed...why not try Mt Hakkoda in Aomori......winter is coming......it's great to go there during this season
@@nolisarmiento1719 oh I love Hakkoda too! I've made at least 5 videos there as well!! Snowshoeing, Backcountry skiing, etc.
In the end, it's just new sights to see
yes!
Well that's interesting news! Do you think this might affect the operation of the ski areas on the mountain's slopes?
It might a bit if people are overly worried about the proximity of Mt. Iwate. But officially none of them are being closed.
Wow! That is some stunning footage of the mountain! Do you think the closure of the mountain might be for years and years?

Yeah- I have made a few videos about what I consider to be the best "easy" hikes, etc. But can always make more!

Oh my, what startling news! It makes your drone montage all the more moving. Any predictions regarding how long this preventive closure may last? Are temblors expected to accompany eruption activity?
