Yes, and EmmyLou Harris is so humble, feeling no need to draw attention to herself. This is Iris's song and EmmyLou is there to support her, no star ego, EmmyLou contributes so beautifully and oh so quietly and sweetly.

Everybody's small hometown. This song takes me to Grand Marais, MI, which reminds me a lot of Cicely, Alaska as was the fictitious town this song closed out in it's last episode. Pulls at the heart strings.

This song occupies a special place in my memories and my heart. I first heard it during the final moments of the last episode of 'Northern Exposure', and I cried and cried as Iris sang and the residents of Cicely, Alaska, whom I had come to know and grown to love over the life of the show, acted out their final scenes. I will always associate this song with that show and the joy it brought to me. So unlike any other show. Thank you, Iris.

@@davidsmith-hb1jx It breaks my heart to say that over the last 30 or 40 years, it may very well be more than that. And the problem doesn’t get “fixed” when gentrification takes hold and that little town goes even deeper into the history books.

@@allenkreymborg7492 Hi, Allen. We have the same name (Alan). I take it you mean "the word philistine." So it's too common? Too direct? Not enough nuance in the lead voice, which is not to be compared with Syssel K. or Linda Ronstadt, but has a heartfelt power both in its earnestness and repetition? Reminds me of Hemingway's direct writing style, say, compared to Scott Fitzgerald, who would never be called philistine, with his many gifts. Yeh, the New York Philharmonic will never call Dement in to sing this with them, and I love their work. Well, you can't please all of the people all of the time. I came across it by chance yesterday and it echoed in my head all day long today.
