You don’t have to catch Pokémon to complete the Pokédex anymore, you just need to see them in battle now. I think that change dates back to Sun & Moon.
@@OtawoOnlineGaming you could always complete the Pokédex with just seeing the pokemon and not catching them, for the extra info about the pokemon you have to catch it, completing the pokedex doesn't make catching them necessary though
@@JoseHernandez-wk5td as far as getting the name, picture and where to catch them information, true. As far as game completion, false. The older games did require catching them all for Pokédex completion.
I never understood picking the strongest mons for the game. Pick the ones you like. No matter the team you CAN beat the main quest. Why limit yourself to something that is stronger but you don't like as much?
It's mostly for competitive battling and for when you're breeding them for that. Finding the pokemon you need for your teams that also has the right nature helps save (or waste lol) time.
Besides all of these tips, I have one that's really important (and I wish I knew before) - So if you are trying to have the full experience of bdsp, you will want to get national dex. For that you need to spot all 150 pokemon from the Sinnoh dex. All pokemon are easy to spot with the exception of Drifloon (can only be found on Valley Windworks on fridays). So if you started the game on a friday you cannot get the national dex until next friday UNLESS you fail a math question on Fantina's gym (Ghost type gym). That way, you will battle a trainer who will have Drifloon. The rest can be easily found and if you have any doubts on any pokemon, Serebii is there with the info.

Great QOL improvements. Also a little thing I've noticed about the exp share. Most goes to the ones who battles. Then it drops down so that the lowest levels always gets the most EXP. Idk the percentages. But say there was 700 from a battle. I wanna say 700 exp to the battler. But in my experience my Starter can almost never battle and still maintain his one level higher lead. Or if you ONLY use your starter the rest of the team will finally catch up to being virtually same level as the starter. (Like up to 1 level under) This is great cuz if you in water type area your mineral pokemon (ground, rock, steel) can stay out of battles yet dont need special training to catch back up. Its super helpful on gyms where one type can wipe all the underlings AND gym leader. The old system would mean you'd have almost 3-5 levels over the team, the way experience is given now. You wont be slowed down but actually just wont be required to swap out. What I dont know is if EV points are given out. Cuz certain pokemon/trainers must have perfect EV training. I will say Crobat is a great partner and somehow can wipe easy even against rocks. (Absorb, high speed, high attack, and bad poison must be a part of it) Heck I'm only scared of static ability electric types.
I really REALLY wish you at least had the option to turn off the EXP share, like you did in X and Y and ORAS. Everybody leveling up all the time with no effort or strategy makes these games way too easy.
I actually haven’t found that as the case. Because your Pokemon get less experience of they’re higher level to the defeated Pokemon, I’ve never been overlevelled. I’ve actually still been partly underlevelled to some gym leaders when I’ve just been fighting every trainer I see. All it does is take away the unnecessary grind on loads of wild enemies to get to the same point.
That’s my only issue tbh, sometimes I struggle with the gyms which is great but even then I never have to train too much to get stronger. Right now my team are a bit too strong so I physically have to avoid battling, other than the mandatory trainer battles before my next gym or I’ll be way too overlevelled
I had no trouble with the game until the Elite Four and this was someone who faced almost every trainer immediately and had the team that majority of players likely had. The Elite Four gave me some trouble but they weren't terrible. Then I got to Cynthia and refaced that trauma again...I managed to beat Cynthia on my third try ugh. To be fair, I wasn't paying attention to natures, EVs, IVs, or even competitive moves as that was completely unnecessary up to that point.
I chose turtwig and the game was extremely easy until the final boss after the elite 4, who I beat after about 3-4 tries. One shot everything else except for losing once to the gym leader with lucario, who caught me off guard and beat me once.
My starter tradition has always been Fire types. And he is RIGHT about Chimchar. Just make sure he is evolved before you hit the rock type gym. Monferno also being a Fighting type is beneficial against Roarke's rock types

Being able to swap out Pokémon anytime in the PC is an awesome feature. It’s in Pokémon let’s go and sword and shield and it’s still an awesome feature.
I chose chimchar and the first badge was rough. It’s rock and I didn’t have much to really damage his Pokémon. I had to evolve em and get Mach punch. That helped a lot.
@@icebergthegamer that’s impossible they do the same base (40) damage on the first shot but power up punch does more every other shot. Did you try power up punch after evolving?
If anyone reads this. Dont let the xpshare push you away. It is still just as fun and it looks/plays great! The experience each pokemon gains after a win will be different from each other. And they wont all be the same level.
Thank god on the pokemon following you I litterly only bought this for that. Was sad but enjoying the game. Idk if its nostalgic or what but feels more fun than sword or shield.
Do not grind if you want the game to be a challenge. Play it linearly, objective to objective and go back at the end game and try to get all the pokemon. It's too easy now.
@@karles117 that is a pretty dumb decision. What they should do is have wild gligar have a chance of holding it like 5% chance so you actually evolve it.
Grinding exp on wild pokemon is not really needed in this game. With the exp share essentially generating extra exp, you are going to get so much exp that you will be 10-15 levels above even the gym leaders.
I've only beaten Gen 1 and Pearl in my life. I've beaten Gen 1 many times before the release of Gen 2. I tried Gen 2 but did not finish it for some reason. I've beaten Pearl in 2007, and since that day I haven't played a Pokemon game. I'm looking forward to playing Shining Pearl.

I really wish I knew where to unlock mystery gift. I know now but I'm already at hearthome so I can't catch all my team members in the special pokeballs. Hope the code stays good until my next playtrough
I didn't notice it unlocked until Veilstone City. That's where you can change you outfit for the first time. So it makes sense they unlock mystery gift at that time so you can use your platinum outfit. That's the 3rd badge I believe. Once you get there, check your pause menu and see if it's there.
You can unlock it soon after you do the double battle with the pokemon assistant, after getting your first gym badge, you know you've done the battle since you unlock the option to use the pc anywhere after it, and then you go to id lottery place, so basically the place one of the clowns was completely blocking you from entering, you go to I think the 3rd floor and then talk to a man besides an idol and there there be an option that's has it all in cap lock it be the bottom option, click that and you've unlocked the mystery gift option early.
You mentioned to pick chinchar if you wanna play on easy mode. The exp share makes the game easy mode regardless smh. I’m incredibly overleveled just progressing through the story
Here’s a neat video about things you should know before playing Pokémon! *proceeds to explain the core ideas of Pokémon as if we won’t understand them by playing the game*
I started my Diamond game over the other day and in all the times I've played Pokemon, I never knew that you lost money if you lost to a wild Pokemon with just one pokemon.
Nintendo should remake Pokémon Yellow and FireRed. Besides those two my favorite Pokémon game is Gold. Pokémon Johto was always my favorite (besides the original of course). Nintendo should also remake Gold, Silver, and Crystal.
Bc of Let’s Go, the next remakes will most certainly be Johto. The last remakes, HeartGold and SoulSilver, were made 12 years ago. Remakes for Black and White would be routine bc that’ll be the next gen after gen 4, they have Black 2 and White 2 which aren’t really remakes but kind of are. So I could see them doing Johto again after Legends Arceus and Gen 9 comes out and then after that, remakes of B&W
Being able to access the box on the go That’s great I’ve went into battles not ready wrong type didn’t know the box will fit that I can change on the fly
idk man pokemon doesn't hit it off as hard anymore man. people say it fell off after gen 5, but I think gen 7 was where it truly died and gen 8 was the final nail in the coffin. i hate to be a downer, but sinnoh IS probably my favorite reigon and i am glad that the remakes turned out so nicely
Yeah so true. The games are just disgustingly outdated compared to actual real modern games, and it's a joke that the games are priced the same as other games. Like I bought brilliant diamond but just for nostalgia. By no means is it worth the price lol
It dropped after Gen 3 for me. I hated OG Diamomd and Pearl. I avoided playing Black and white. Tried X/Y never finished it. Never touched Sun/Moon. Sword and Shield had really neat designs for their mons but, the region seemed too small and definitely lacked any difficulty. I’m playing first ever Pokémon and what better than starting out with the original Pokémon Red. I love it, I’m 27 now and never been a fan until now! Quick question, do I need to play them all to understand the story or are they all separate stories?
Depending on the games theyre different stories! For example pokemon heartgold is a different story than pokemon sword but pokemon black 2 is a continuation of pokemon black. There definitely are some mentions of different regions in the games too
I resent the fact that you call Chimchar easy mode as it’s my favorite of the starters… And *until the Fairy type* came out I hated Empleon.. (Steel water just seems horrible.. I mean you already got the water type for your rock type advantage and steel typing just was the LAST second typing I’d want for my water type….) 3:27 Sorry but I have to correct you… Remember, adults play this game too BUT it targets KIDS and not all kids are good at math or already know it all, so, some kids will probably combine gaming with school work assistants. A percentage of players will never use it- also, I should mention there ARE adults who aren’t too hot at math… I know, I have come across at least one. So saying “You’ll never use” about the calculator isn’t accurate. Some probably do or have or some just simply will… It’s there and can help some; why not?
Does anyone else ever wish that they just made a remaster of blue and red? Like 3D and more badass but all the same little tricks and storyline and everything

I liked your video, but it’s HARD to agree with you about Chimchar, BUT, while BOTH Chimchar, AND Monferno, are useful throughout most of the game, Torterra earthquake is ESSENTIALLY Rhyhorn’s horn drill… In other words totally broken. But can you do a guide on strongest Pokémon to battle with? Especially because of the new additions?
Question: I want to get a Pokémon game and am not sure whether to get sword and shield or this one. I like the newer gens but this also looks fun. Which one would you recommend more?
I think the non optional EXP share is the deal breaker for me, just not something I'm a huge fan of unfortunately. Its too bad because I played Pearl when I was in my early teens and never thought the EXP share from the original was an issue at all.
it was defo an isssue. the amount of teams that i had to grind from level 45 to 60 to beat the e4 level 66s was a chore. and thats pretty much every pokemon fan. not being able to turn off is the problem but the originals were defo way too grindy.

I'd pay like 40 tops tbh, or dig up an old copy of diamond
where did you get your copy from, i got mine from walmart and they were 49.99
@@NIneDJcali I sadly bought a digital copy off the Nintendo store.
They might try to sell battle frontier as dlc
The game already has plenty of content. I'm 26 hours in and have the 7th badge.
Water/steel is pretty good personally
not until you meet garchomp with yache berry
@@darshitrawat0112 wait do you mean you can tank a bite from anything with water/steel, Empolean has like 11 resistances or something like that

Being able to swap out Pokémon anytime in the PC is an awesome feature. It’s in Pokémon let’s go and sword and shield and it’s still an awesome feature.
The ONE thing I wish I knew: the stick stinks when it comes to movement in an orthogonally designed world. Use the D-pad+B if you want to run.
Thank for the info guys. This is my first pokemon game ever and you really helped me out with this
Glad to hear this helped I hope you are enjoying the game.
@@BurningFlamesofDivineDragon yeah I am just having a bit of difficulty catching Pokemon in the underground
One thing I wish I knew was that Roark’s ace had Bulldoze before I let my Budew tank it in my Nuzlocke😔
I chose chimchar and the first badge was rough. It’s rock and I didn’t have much to really damage his Pokémon. I had to evolve em and get Mach punch. That helped a lot.
Why didn’t you use power up punch? He learns that before evolving and it increase your attack every time.
@@iamjstew___4473 it wasn’t doing enough damage. And rollout was on shotting me right after. Mach punch was doing way more damage.
@@icebergthegamer that’s impossible they do the same base (40) damage on the first shot but power up punch does more every other shot. Did you try power up punch after evolving?
@@iamjstew___4473 nah. Straight to Mach punch. Coulda helped that I leveled twice
@@icebergthegamer than you made a dumb decision imo
If anyone reads this. Dont let the xpshare push you away. It is still just as fun and it looks/plays great! The experience each pokemon gains after a win will be different from each other. And they wont all be the same level.
Thank god on the pokemon following you I litterly only bought this for that. Was sad but enjoying the game. Idk if its nostalgic or what but feels more fun than sword or shield.
Do not grind if you want the game to be a challenge. Play it linearly, objective to objective and go back at the end game and try to get all the pokemon. It's too easy now.
dont forget to map your fishing rods in the key items with register! big time saver for fishing
Alternate title: 14 tips I wish I knew before playing Pokémon
I wish I knew that Gliscor wasn’t available until the post-game. I was so excited to use one for the first time
I believe gligar is attainable in the underground bud. Just a rare spawn
@@IWileECoyoteI know, and I picked one up early on. But I can’t evolve it until the post-game since the item needed is locked off until then.
@@karles117 that is a pretty dumb decision. What they should do is have wild gligar have a chance of holding it like 5% chance so you actually evolve it.
@@karles117 coupled with the fact that there is no eviolite make pokemon like gligar almost useless until evolution
so you just walk up and ask for legendaries in this game?
Yeah that would be the idea for the two legendaries.
Grinding exp on wild pokemon is not really needed in this game.
With the exp share essentially generating extra exp, you are going to get so much exp that you will be 10-15 levels above even the gym leaders.
Yeah being a little over leveled in bd and sp ain't that bad, since there's no me, zm, and or dynamax lol
As long as im having a good time playing the game, its all good for me
Good luck getting past the first gym without evolving chimchar tho
Chimchar learns Power-Up Punch (Lvl 12) before evolving to Monferno and learn Mach Punch (Lvl 14). Deadly combination.
Catch a budew, or machop. Easy peasy
Seriously, Chimchar is insane at the beginning. i thought the game was just that easy.
I rlly wish i remembered that the girl who trades a haunter has a everstone and cannot evolve at the snow village....
Loving the game so far!!!
You have a lovely voice, man. Soothing as heck.
Great video. Thanks for making the video so helpful but easy to follow and understand.
I grew up only with a nintendo gameboy, so i only played until gen3. Now i have a switch, playing this is like my inner child’s dream
Still surprises me that Piplup isn’t part of the Flying Type. I mean, it’s a bird!
??? It’s obvious, penguins can’t fly
I totally used the passive Exp share to get a Kadabra lol
I got this game on my birthday one year ago. I wonder what the next one is going to come out.
i miss the old school rules of pokemon
Does anyone know if you get new and jirachi every playthrough? Like if I start a new game will I still be able to get them? Or is it a one time thing? Please let me know
If you completely delete the save I think you can get it again
I really wish I knew where to unlock mystery gift. I know now but I'm already at hearthome so I can't catch all my team members in the special pokeballs. Hope the code stays good until my next playtrough
Just go back to Jubilee City
I just love pokemon games so much. Super enjoyed let's go pikachu and sword and shield and legends arceus. Super cant wait for scarlet and violet
I already beaten Pokémon Violet. Did you like the game?
Here’s a neat video about things you should know before playing Pokémon!
*proceeds to explain the core ideas of Pokémon as if we won’t understand them by playing the game*
I started my Diamond game over the other day and in all the times I've played Pokemon, I never knew that you lost money if you lost to a wild Pokemon with just one pokemon.
The quality of life features just make the game too easy. Its sad to see we still don't have the option to turn them of.
there's literally nothing you need to know in advanced, it's a children's game, you play it for fun
This is too nostalgic. Got to buy a switch just for this game.
Remake of emerald is necessarry. Was my all time favorite game
Now they remasterd pokemon daimond/pearl i hope they remaster black/White aswel would be awsome

Waiting for a viking Falinks thats either Ice/Fighting or Water/Fighting...
@@StormDunakin gen 4 resonated with me because it fixed the god awful pokemon move categories and added evolutions to my then favorite generation 2 pokemon
Thanks bro I just got the game today and wanted a good guide
I actually have a friend of mine who needs help on finding the HM I 01 device, do you have any idea on any tips on how to get that and if so could you please post a video on that particular device so I can send it to her? If you could that would be a big help thank you so much :-) ️❤️
I just got a shiny Geodude after only 6 encounters!!
This is not a ”what I wish I knew before starting” this is a basic criticism from a old time Pokémon fan
Its not even criticism. It's just a user manual pretty much
Thank for the tips bro
2:15 “and to train them is my caaaaaaause”
Great video!
There definitely are some mentions of different regions in the games too
I resent the fact that you call Chimchar easy mode as it’s my favorite of the starters…
And *until the Fairy type* came out I hated Empleon.. (Steel water just seems horrible.. I mean you already got the water type for your rock type advantage and steel typing just was the LAST second typing I’d want for my water type….)
3:27 Sorry but I have to correct you… Remember, adults play this game too BUT it targets KIDS and not all kids are good at math or already know it all, so, some kids will probably combine gaming with school work assistants.
A percentage of players will never use it- also, I should mention there ARE adults who aren’t too hot at math… I know, I have come across at least one. So saying “You’ll never use” about the calculator isn’t accurate. Some probably do or have or some just simply will… It’s there and can help some; why not?
Does the Mew and Jirachi one have an expiry date? Or we can get them even in the far future as long as a save data exist from said titles?
A lot of what you're saying is pokemon 101...
2:13 Are you telling me this guy used pokeballs the entire run?
Best Pokémon game I’ve played in ages. It was actually tough. Not linear and hand holding. Thank you
You requested something nice so.. you've got a nice voice :) Good video!
Only reason I use chimchar is because he is the only fire pokemon available
Does anyone else ever wish that they just made a remaster of blue and red? Like 3D and more badass but all the same little tricks and storyline and everything
How do I get the egg from the hiker ? It says I have no room , does someone give me a “slot or ability “ to now hold them I feel like I’m leaving it behind by I’m missing something. Thanks in advance for any clarification.
You need to have an empty slot in your Pokémon party of 6.
If you wish to get Charmander or Dragonite via the underground, get national dex first.

exp share why... god
Ah nostalgic, the tips is like reading through GBA games walktrough
I allmost allways Pick the “worst” starter just to have a bit of a Challenge in the early game.
I liked your video, but it’s HARD to agree with you about Chimchar,
BUT, while BOTH Chimchar, AND Monferno, are useful throughout most of the game, Torterra earthquake is ESSENTIALLY Rhyhorn’s horn drill…
In other words totally broken.
But can you do a guide on strongest Pokémon to battle with?
Especially because of the new additions?
Not a fan of these XP share games, takes the team building aspect totally out of the game.
I wish there was a detailed description guide on what pokemon give what Ev's after battle. Some are obvious but others are more of a guess.
Question: I want to get a Pokémon game and am not sure whether to get sword and shield or this one. I like the newer gens but this also looks fun. Which one would you recommend more?
Sword/Shield is better IMO. Wait for Pokemon Arceus for new gameplay in Pokemon Franchise.
@@jlkomina778 agree 100%. This ones way too repetitive with the same 2 or 3 Pokémon popping out of the grass and not much of a story.
@@kvstles ur simple that’s why. These games is what made pokemom what it is today
Sword or shield with the dlc or choose one of these.
SwSh with DLCs is so much fun imo
I think the non optional EXP share is the deal breaker for me, just not something I'm a huge fan of unfortunately. Its too bad because I played Pearl when I was in my early teens and never thought the EXP share from the original was an issue at all.
it was defo an isssue. the amount of teams that i had to grind from level 45 to 60 to beat the e4 level 66s was a chore. and thats pretty much every pokemon fan. not being able to turn off is the problem but the originals were defo way too grindy.
@@johnmarkson1990 see i guess i just didnt mind the grind haha, probably because i was young with hours of extra time on my hands lol, im not against the new EXP share at all i think its a good addition for people who want it, just me personally im not a fan of having to use the new EXP share.
I’m getting this for Christmas it’s helping thx
I am looking forward to get both Pokemon brilliant diamond and Pokemon shining pearl games for Christmas🎄. I also would liked to play as Dawn and choose Piplup as my starter Pokemon so I can do better than the anime Dawn and what Piplup would never do. And that is catching more Pokemon and evolve Piplup into Prinplup and then to Empoleon.
However when I was watching TH-cam of any ideas what to expect on Pokemon brilliant diamond and Pokemon shining pearl, but when I was looking to find out about Wonder Trade that I've just found out today that at the moment is unavailable😱. I mean it isn't fair because I was looking forward to get both Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Pokemon Shining Pearl games for Christmas and I was hoping to used Wonder Trade for any Pokemon I want. Now I'm going to have to wait in early January to hear more news at least that what I though it's going to happen😒.
It seems just like Pokémon diamond, just with a lot more benefits tbh, now I'm more hyped for when I get it
Thing I wish I knew??? I feel like these are things everyone knows already. And I'm by no means a pokemon fan boy.
Cool video! I'm loving Shining Pearl.
Well I did everything I could and what you said but all I got is the word cut but it's not dark shaded like it should what should I do next
