- "Facing The Wall" is the story of Elmira New York and the river that runs through it. A river that helped give birth to the city, fueled its economic growth, inspired its artists and writers, and defines the city in a way no other single object or person ever could.
It is a story about the city's struggle to recover from the lingering damage caused by a devastating flood in 1972-an event that continues to influence its development to this day. And ultimately, it is a story about the positive steps being taken to view the river as an asset, rather than a liability.
Nearly 40 years after unspeakable devastation, Elmira is finally...facing the wall.
About the producer: Rich LaVere is a photographer and filmmaker living and working in Elmria, NY. This is his second documentary.
Narrator: Bill Clune
Original Music: John Manfredi and Rich LaVere

So good!
Very nice!
Thank you!
A well-done synopsis of Elimra,NY and surrounding! My appreciation to Rich LaVere - beautiful and approrpriate music created the mood of the Elmira I remember from 60's, its sad downfall after the '72 flood and the years of lost hope. Yes, there certainly is a rival occurring and I hope this video will remind all of us of the treasure of of natural beauty and history. Many thanks. Chemung River Watershed group, for focusing on the beauty of the river. Thank you to all of you.
Elmira musician John Manfredi was responsible for creating most of the soundtrack; thank you for the kind words and your comments.
a great documentary. job well done.
Thank you.
is that why there's construction down near Madison bridge ????.
and the British own ND today! lol
The natives didn't want settlers ON THEIR LAND "not settlers land!!"
The script and commentary make no mention of the ownership of the land; only that there was conflict between the settlers and the native population. I appreciate your comment and, yes, the distinction is important.
