Watching the video on his channel and seeing some replies he posted right here to some comments, it would appear that's not the case. They were cheap rims, he knew what he was getting into in that regard, if he looks pissed or disappointed, it's probably more because of how the entire thing went down on a larger scale.
I'm guessing he was expecting to just hang out with some dudes and let it rip, and while that is what he got to do to an extent, he also got to see how it's really set up like a production and they're shooting several episodes on one day, so the atmosphere was definitely a bit different than expected.
Imagine how you'd feel if you do something that you've been looking forward to, and it's good, but not really what you expected. You would still be happy you did it and had fun, but you'd be a bit disappointed that it wasn't what you imagined.

Got to see this thing in person do a rolling burnout for a couple blocks. Makes your heart skip a beat. He didn't have the rear bumper on it (I assume from this) but his wheels looked fine. Craziest Miata I've seen yet!

This Miata can’t do 1000. The hellcat can do 1000 because it was built to do 1000. This custom build does 685 at the wheel. Still very impressive.
id rather see them put it in a classic challenger(i love masda but id rather just get a pro to install a turbo than engin swap it.)

The worst was the rims only drift.. so now the guy is not only out like 8 tires but two rims and the back bumper cover has to be put back on and it didn't look like it was just a plastic rivet or two it looks like the tire that blew slapped the wheel well causen damage to inside fenders... it's one thing to see a rig get demoed but quite another to watch 4 guys take turns hammering a guys rig till it's broke tireless and ugly for all the rubber stuck to the paint.. I'm ashamed at you 4 for being so willfully distrustive to somebody's car that obously had alot of time and money put into it and was nice enough to let you drive his creation... boo on you..

That's a $15-20k engine shoved into this car, which cannot be daily driven at all and is a glorified burnout machine. I'm pretty sure he is aware that tires will be destroyed every time it's brought out.

I know a guy who had a 350 'lawn mower' (really butchered S10 frame super shrunk down with like a 6" driveshaft behind a Powerglide and the body stuff from a big diesel John Deere garden tractor on it). It was ridiculous and deadly as a cocked gun, but I think this is maybe scarier.
