    • @IFarmWeFarm
      @IFarmWeFarm  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This one doesn’t use topping skids Derek, it’s got a full stone guard underneath. It’s a very tough strong mower but to mow grass you’d need to remove that and swap out the blades to the flat ones for less drag and less chance of the belts slipping. We’ll never do that as it’s just perfect for maintaining the paddocks.

    Hey Adrain, we have a Kuhn mower at home which is incredibly similat to your JF. When we replace the oil in the gearbox, we tilt the mower op vertical so the drain plug is all the way at the bottom. When it's drained, we fill the oil back up through the filler plug until it starts spilling out (mind you the mower is still up vertical so the filler plug is now at the side of the gearbox). The user manual told us to do it this way, I think it would be the same for your mower. This way we also don't have to measure any amount of oil, we always have the correct amount in it. Hopefully I could provide some useful info!

    Great stuff as usual Adrian. Topping is a very important job alright. Don't bother putting the cows back to it like you tho. Mine would just stand at the gap giving out!! Its really not that much grass so not worth the hassle. Do you use much slurry on paddocks instead of fertiliser not that you have the dribble bar

    • @IFarmWeFarm

      Topping is quite hard on a mower, this one works well for topping and pre mowing but it’s not great for cutting heavy grass, we need to remove the stone guard and them curved blades to set it up for grass, the other mower is shaft driven and suits grass mowing only. It’s hard to explain in a message but they both have a good cause 👍

    Do you not change the oil with the bed of the mower straight up and fill it back up the same way the fill point should be a third of the way up the bed and that's the amount of oil that goes back in. And the gear box s oil and the bed oil are all the one I'm only going on a Kuhn mower.

    • @johnjoeosullivan5748
      @johnjoeosullivan5748 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Some mowers gearbox and bed oil are separate alright.
      but bed straight up in the air is the way to go for draining the bed oil and fill the oil to the level of the fill plug.

    • @IFarmWeFarm
      @IFarmWeFarm  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You shouldn’t really need to stand it up straight but you certain can do it that way Donnacha. JF just recommended to do it this way when I bought it, most important thing is to put back only what you take out. I think there a magnetic sump plug on the Kuhns

    • @keithk1246
      @keithk1246 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The gearbox can't be all one as the oil would all run into the Bed and box would run dry and seize. I never seen a bed and gearbox all in one! The oil from the bed comes up into the bell shaped part in the lower part of the box when stood up, the top part of gearbox is for the gear's which turns drive through 90 degrees.

    • @IFarmWeFarm
      @IFarmWeFarm  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@keithk1246 Yes both are separate for sure, there’s a chamber just under the gear box drain plug, you can see it on the video where there’s a lower drain plug that I opened but didn’t mention as it was empty . I was told by the dealer that was a chamber for the bed pressure vacuum, but actually I looked it up today and seen that it’s just simply for draining the bed oil when vertical which makes sense now when it’s been mentioned. Would of been a lot handier too, I’ll know for again at least 🙈. Every days a school day 🤷🏻‍♂️👍

    Why do you have this rotary mower and the malone mower

    • @IFarmWeFarm
      @IFarmWeFarm  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Both for very different jobs Martin, the wee 8ft JF is set up great for topping and pre-mowing with them blades and the stone guard, it’s never was a great mower for cutting grass but it’s very light and handy for topping. The 9ft krone is shaft driven and purely for grass, topping would have it in a mess and it would be to awkward as well, much heavier mower too. That little JF owes us nothing so we’d never sell it as it’s worth more to us then we’d ever get

    • @martinhealy3741

    • @IFarmWeFarm
      @IFarmWeFarm  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That kind of maintenance isn’t very often, normally it’s just a quick grease, sharpen and away. The krone mower would be destroyed at them at job, that little JF has a stone guard underneath to protect it as well, it never was a great mower to cut heavy grass especially been belt driven. Them curved blades don’t help either but are great for topping, she’s also nice, light and compact for that job. Cow dung is very hard on gear too. 👍
