When I was 15 my mother sent me to finishing school for the summer. I have kept the classic basic black wardrobe with subtle/neutral colors added. My make up style is “barely there”. I never did fads. They cost a lot of money and fade quickly. Thank you for this video.
A few years ago, when I met the first person with ripped jeans, I thought it was a homeless person. It was only when I noticed that several people were wearing these trousers that I realised it was a fashion trend. 😂
What a wonderful video. I had a stylish mother, but know many women who did not. This is a very helpful video for those in doubt & a great reminder for me too!
Thank you for your sound advice - personally I gave up tight trousers- they tend to look cheap- even the costly brands. And I totally agree that we aren’t paid to be advertising columns - so no flashy logos and furthermore it doesn’t contribute to the quiet luxury theme… But: I wouldn’t recommend to wear only brown, beige and pastels - especially if you’re an autumn type - those were the colors my grandmother featured- don’t be seen 😉- that doesn’t mean that I recommend neon colors/ but there’s so much in between, like red, white and blue or beautiful shades of green….
Agree. I’m about color, at least in my top. I wear jeans most every day, either knee length or ankle covering. But I like pretty colored tops. If I were to put on neutrals, I’d feel all blah, brown. I was a dark brunette, and color always looked best on me. Still does.
Elegant women avoid :- 5. overly distressed jeans 4. flashy logos and brandnames 3. excessively tight or revealing clothing 2. neon colours as staple in the wardrobe 1. excessive makeup
It is the decadence of an affluent society. My grandmother, who was born in the 1920s, told me that in the old days no-one would have gone out in a pair of ripped jeans. It would have been a disgrace. Times were hard and everyone made sure they were properly dressed.
I always check labels for fabric care: everything that is “dry clean only” I put back on the rack. I am not that rich to waste the money on dry cleaning
Dry clean only is something I ignore. For decades, I've successfully hand washed almost everything saying dry clean, and used liquid detergent, stick in the dryer on delicate, low or whatever until damp dry, hang it, touch up with an iron if absolutely necessary. I'm still wearing clothing decades old, gorgeous. Travelled all over the world in them, places where dry cleaning is unknown or in others, a fortune or they ruin it. Give me a sink, a river, some detergent packets and I can go to the opera or hike in the Andes and have out of the same tiny suitcase ,🤣
And for me, I refuse to purchase clothes with more than a very small percentage of synthetic fibers. I also will not wear anything with linen because it wrinkles too easily, making it look sloppy.
I've given up the over the top earrings I wore when I was young. Now, I only wear good quality understated earrings. My everyday earrings are my quarter carat diamond studs. xo~linda
Nothing new to me, although I agree with almost everything. Wrinkles though is something that hard to avoid wearing cotton and linen clothes. Yes, they need to be ironed, but we are not able to avoid those wrinkles that are result of our body poses while having clothes on.
Wearing trainers with most dresses. I fell for this trend a couple of years ago until I saw my daughter in law with simple leather sandals and a summer dress
The newest Satanist illuminati trend is to cheapened woman's value and fitted their perverted world fancying a child. Basically lowering their spiritual frequency. People aren't fully aware of this agenda
For casual wear, I've depended on beige, white and natural canvas slip on shoes forever and a pair of Vivonic leather slip ons known as the best walking shoes on the planet. I agree, lightweight and great looking.
@@raliejansevanrensburg5559 I have a niece who's tall, slender, and tanned. She wears jeans worn/ripped at the knee only. Bc she's a teen and has that body shape, they look cute on her. On me, they'd look ridiculous. It depends on your age, body type/size and what you like. But I found out long ago it's best to know what looks good on you and avoid the rest. And I do that.
How about nose rings, nose studs, eyebrow studs, and various other metal things sticking out of mouths and lips? I loathe these things. I have several nice young women in my life who wear all this and tattoos as well 😞I have elegant and special jewelry I may like to give them, but what is the point?
I don’t dress like these ladies. I’m their ages, but I prefer jeans (NOT ripped ones!) in faded shades, dark shades & different colors as long as they are a bit flared & longer. I can’t stand the “above the ankle” stuff. It just looks dumb to me. Another thing is that my hair is long but kept very neat & my weight is 110 lbs. I have been that weight since me 20’s. I work at it, and I think that makes a huge difference. For evening wear, I like a well tailored pants suit, or a close fitting dress that I feel proud to wear (after all the exercising..!!) I love very good bags & shoes. These are always brand-names because they look so good with an outfit. My jewelry is good all gold items that I’ve had for a long time. I also like vintage shopping. I do not wear shorts…not many ladies in their mid-60’s look so good in them, but I love my Hoka brand sneakers. I wear half the makeup I use to, but I never overloaded anyway. Ok…that’s my two cents!! TY all for reading my comment. 😇🌹
You wear it wrinkled. Back in the old days, it was a symbol of wealth because it showed that the garment was pure linen which was very expensive and only the wealthy wore it. One of the criticisms of Ralph Lauren's wardrobe for "The Great Gatsby" was that he used polyester or blends for the men's suits so while they were crisp and perfect they weren't authentic. Look at old photos of wealthy people in the 1920's and earlier at resorts.
Overly distressed jeans are for the young! Not sophisticated women. Tip for pants: Hang them from the hems to let the weight of the waist pull the knee wrinkles out.
Here we go...middle age beige, pensioner pink & grandma green for ladies of a certain age...no! Who are these bots who think they can tell women how to be?? Its not 'advice', its making women more susceptible to feeling they are not wearing the 'right' clothes. Life is just too short for this type of mind control - do you, not someone elses' version of you..
The theme is how to be ELEGANT, not how to "do you" and wear whatever you want. If wearing classic clothing and being elegant doesn't interest you, fine. If it does, the video is offering time tested tips to achieve this.
You really missed what was said. This video isn't trying to manipulate you, it is offering general guidelines to achieve a desired style known as "classy." There is a lot of room for personalizing a classy appearance, just as there is in any given style, (such as "sexy," "rocker," "western," "goth," etc.) but deviation too far will result in a less than classy appearance. A classy woman avoids overbearing colors because they call visual attention to the color and away from everything else, including the woman, herself. The same is true of clothing that is too revealing, it draws attention to the woman's sexuality instead of to the woman as a whole. Dress however you please, but you will not be perceived as a classy lady if your appearance is comprised of gaudy choices.
I like the classic looks they've described here. But it's a personal preference. The one thing I don't think is very flattering are the pants cropped off at the ankle that they keep showing here. They just don't look good. I'm not crazy about really tight clothes myself. Leggings are ok, I would personally wear a tunic top over them though and flat sandals. Bell bottoms or flared pants will always be flattering and will always keep coming back in style because they look good. they balance you out. To me pants that are baggy all the way down make you look like you have elephant legs. And if they are cut short at the ankle they are even worse. Save them for pajama/lounge pants at home. I have a lot of opinions and personal preferences. lol. But I do feel people should wear what they are comfortable in.
I have a friend who wore distressed jeans at the age of 64 years old.🤢 That was her way of dressing up!😢 I was embarrassed to be seen with her! I would avoid going out to eat with her!
You mean linen does look bad ? It is always wrinkled...I love linen, the best material for hot summer, much better than some unwrinkled artificial fabrics!
You can pry my jeans leggings from my cold, dead legs. Guess I'll just be elegant from the waist up. Except for my purple hair! I'm 77 yrs old........tell me what I can't wear.
I'm short not overweight but have an hourglass figure. wide pants look like pajamas no matter what they're made of. I don't really wear pants at all but if I'm going to for some reason, they will be narrow cut. Not skin tight but slim. I bought a couple of short sweater dresses last year. I don't live in a terribly clod climate but it's chilly, especially when it rains. Those dresses just skim my knees so leggings are great under them.
My tattoos are not meant for others to see. They're private; they're for me. They do not, nor will they ever be, visible on exposed hands, arms, legs, or ankles. Doesn't work for *me*. No judgment if it works for others.
Glowing logos. So why do they produce such T-shirts? I hate it too. When I want to buy something for my son, nothing else can be found in the store only with such inscriptions. Wouldn't it be easier to produce a t-shirt with a tiny inscription on the goal or on the sleeve? Such that it is not much visible and makes a good impression? After all, everyone is talking about saving everything in production.
This is not about being dictated to according to someone else's views. You don't like wool, cashmere, linen, or whatever, fine. Don't wear them. But it's no one's business to tell someone else what they should or shouldn't wear for some agenda not their own. Don't dictate your agenda to others. It's beyond rude, condescending, and not your place or anyone else's. Mine either. Get over it.
Oh my, darling, have you had your blood pressure checked lately, or maybe you skipped your medicine.???? Maybe a relaxing cup of tea, or perhaps a little nap would help you calm down .... After you're feeling better we can talk about that presumptuous and ill-thought advice you just gave ....
Living g sheep need to be sheared which is where wool comes from. Shearing sheep is kind to them. So what's wrong with wool ? You must think sheep are killed for their wool. No sheep die !
Wool is NOT cruel. It is cruel to NOT shear a sheep. They become sick, filthy, parasite ridden, overheated, and distressed. Sheep must be shorn, unless they are a certain type. The wool is a by product of this process. Cashmere also does not hurt or kill animals in its production. There are ethical producers of cashmere online. Not hard to find.
Glad you watched 💛I added a list of these items in the video description for you to check out!

My mother stayed up nights patching jeans so us kids didn't look poor but rather neat and clean. I don't understand distressed jeans.
My officemates once convinced me to wear ripped jeans and I said NO. They look like a rag to me
Never understood it either. And to pay exorbitant amounts for them as well??? I can tear them myself.
Agree with everything....I would add neglected shoes hair and nails.
I thought from the start that ripped jeans looked horrible. Tacky and cheap!
Leave them to the teenagers.
A few years ago, when I met the first person with ripped jeans, I thought it was a homeless person. It was only when I noticed that several people were wearing these trousers that I realised it was a fashion trend. 😂
Preripped “purpose guy tears” are a stupid conceit. Especially stupid because they cost more.

Totally agree on the ripped jeans!! Ugh!
Yes they look trashy
Wow, I agreed with everything said and shown in the entire video! 😲👍 Unnatural hair colors yell, "I'm not elegant!" to me.
I love linen even if it wrinkles.
Yes, wrinkles take place even if you iron your clothes well, because your body moves naturally to create the wrinkles.
I love to iron my clothes so they look well cared for and neat.
I envy you so much!!! I wish I could love to iron!!! 🤣

I'll be honest, I never understood the fashion of "distressing" jeans. It's like fake poverty. Why?
It is the decadence of an affluent society. My grandmother, who was born in the 1920s, told me that in the old days no-one would have gone out in a pair of ripped jeans. It would have been a disgrace. Times were hard and everyone made sure they were properly dressed.
And then you still have to pay a fortune for something that is torn 😕
I hate torn jeans they are considered inauspicious. One fashion designer says clean, neat , tailored suits are more elegant.

I never like wearing a logo or brand on clothing, after all I am not a walking billboard & I do not get paid to wear a logo
Agree, although I made an exception once when I bought and loved wearing a holiday white tshirt with the word VAGUE on it.
You read my mind. This is the same reason I don't wear T-shirts with clever sayings on them. Why tempt people to stare at one's chest?
so right. I don't like them on my handbags either.
My thoughts as well. In junior high I thought trying to impress others by flashing expensive brand names was cool, but grew out of it.
Skinny jeans!! Love my collection of wide-legged jeans and dress pants. I kept a few skinny jeans for housework and yard work ONLY!!
Thank you for highlighting the topics discussed in the video.
Thank you for the video.
Things to avoid : Over distressed jeans , clothes brandishing logos , too tight clothes, neon colours , excessive eyelashes , wrinkled clothes
Definitely agree

And of course NO TATOO! If you have one already, just forget about ever being elegant.
I agree.
This is number 1. I agree completely.

You can have tattoos and still be elegant. Especially if you have them where they can be concealed. Not everyone who has skin art looks trashy.
I have a very small tattoo (about the size of a quarter) on the outside of my ankle in memory of my sister. I guess I can give up on 'elegant', huh?
If you have to tell someone what not to wear to be elegant, can they really be elegant?
😂
Of course, they can learn, that is if they want to.
I agree. You have to want to look good….
This is just a video of do's & dont's.. Grow up Child
Sometimes, people don't think they have the $$$. Elegance is in the creativity, not the cost. Designer labels take no imagination!
Please don’t ask me to give up linen. It’s my summer staple
The linen dress is elegant. What else can you wear in 43 degrees??? Only linken and silk.
I'd die before giving up linen, a staple in my wardrobe, particularly white.
Very Good, Thank You

I think jeans is a no-go.
What about nails and hair?
I think that dustressed jeans are the stupidest fashion trend I have ever seen. I wear them for painting a fence and that's it.
Ok! Not to sound negative or terrible, but if you all dont like the suggestions that are given in the video why are you watching the video?
Some folks are triggered by the idea of leveling up to elegance. They think it's inauthentic and elitist.
Birkenstocks look frumpy and so do strappy athletic sandals unless you are going to the gym, the beach, or on a hike.
I will never give up my Birkenstocks.....but I don't like driving in them.

Yep they do. My point exactly!
Try wearing linen all day, wrinkle free.
White linen clothes are my summer uniform. Linen breathes, so I stay cooler.
I’m a wrinkled mess in linen, but it is comfy. I don’t wear it anymore due to wrinkling.
Try a linen blend with rayon, it’s still cool and wrinkles less.
Anyone wears ripped jeans is a fashion victim.
I m sure you can be elegant wearing anything…it’s all in your character not in your clothes
Wrong. Bad Wrong.
Over distressed jeans also make your legs look fat.
Smaller jewellery in generalxxx

NO.
